2 2 Explore NetLibrary: Econtent Collection The Mount Mercy Econtent collection provided by NetLibrary offers full, digital versions of books in various disciplines. Titles are available for viewing and printing; copyright restrictions prevent full duplication of a single work. From the library s homepage, select Electronic Books from the Find column and then the Net Library link ( On the search interface, insert an author, title, or subject of interest. Search results then offer a cover image, citation, and abstract for the book. Select View this Ebook to see contents. On the succeeding screen, the work s table of contents loads in a left frame; corresponding contents are seen on the right. Small portions of books are able to be printed. Explore Credo Reference Collection The Credo Reference collection allows visitors to search 450 electronic reference books simultaneously for coverage of a topic. Find a Book offers collection titles by subject; selecting a title of interest then provides a second search window. Results produce articles of interest from a single publication.

3 3 Explore EBSCOhost: Periodical Databases Research and coverage of a topic in magazines and professional journals (periodicals) is provided via EBSCOhost, the full-text retrieval database. TO PERFORM A BASIC EBSCO SEARCH: 1. Select Databases from the Find column on the Busse Library homepage. 2. An alphabetical roster of all database subscriptions appears. Select EBSCOhost Databases. 3. On the succeeding screen, consider search paths. The EBSCOhost integrated search involves multiple databases and retrieves the most relevant documents for your topic. Search paths are also available for subject-specific databases. Each cluster activates multiple interfaces; consider the approach you would like to use with your topic and which cluster is most applicable. The advanced search option is the default EBSCOhost screen; use limiters of various sorts. You may choose from full-text retrieval, specific publishing dates, scholarly (peer reviewed) articles, and other options. Search results now appear in the center of the screen. You may further refine your search using limiters that appear in the left column. Titles are shown in blue; each title is the access point to an article s full entry in the database. This screen provides , saving, printing, and citation information. If full-text retrieval was activated, a PDF or HTML file icon will be present below the citation and abstract. Select the icon to view the article in its entirety.

4 4 PDF files enable browsing of an entire issue. Select any other title from the left, table of contents to view additional texts. Use the Adobe Acrobat toolbar to view, save, print, and browse through the article. The function (envelope icon) appears in the right column. HTML files lack graphics of any sort; EBSCO s new features include audio files for HTML content.

5 5 EBSCO provides links to other sources (databases) for your content. The record will include the notation Linked Full Text and then connect you with the file. A Note field indicates details about the article s location or Busse Library s print collection. If you are unable to retrieve the article due to subscription limitations, check to see if the note field includes library holding information. The article may be available in traditional, print form. If not, you may select Request this Article for interlibrary loan processing. Fill out the accompanying form and your article will be sent electronically, usually within one to three days. Explore Other Databases at Busse Library Other research sources for women s issues and women s history can be found in the Busse Library database roster ( and can be accessed off-campus. Select any course title from your MyCampus homepage; on the succeeding page, select the Library tab. A database s title is the direct link to its search interface; logins and passwords are provided. EBSCOhost Offerings: American History and Life, ERIC (education), PsychInfo (psychology), and SocIndex (sociology). CQ Researcher: Federal publication on topics of national interest; full-text online. Magazine documents research and provides bibliography. Newsbank: Database offering access to 500 American newspapers; find full text of the Cedar Rapids Gazette and Des Moines Register here. Ideal resource for local coverage of a given topic. Search by keyword, date, and four other methods. The Wiley Online Library (formerly Wiley InterScience): ScienceDirect is a leading full-text scientific database offering journal articles from more than 2,500 peerreviewed journals and more than 11,000 books.
