1 PS CLEMENTINE PRO 2.0 /// installation with network license manager Network license server In case of the installation of PS CLEMENTINE PRO with a network license (concurrent) the process is divided into following stages: z installation of the network license manager software (PS License Server), z installation of PS CLEMENTINE PRO on central processing machine (usually it is the same machine as license server), z activation of the network license on the license server (and on the central machine if it is other machine), z installation of PS CLEMENTINE PRO solution on computers using the network license, z activation of the license on these computers. For proper operation of the PS CLEMENTINE PRO using a network license, it is necessary to install additional PS License Server software and activate it as a license manager service. The license manager software monitors and limits the number of concurrent users of individual program modules to the number specified in the license agreement. It is not possible to run the PS CLEMENTINE PRO solution installed with a network license (including the IBM SPSS Modeler) without the activation of this service. The license manager is a service running in background on a computer that is a network license server. This service also has the ability to collect information about server connections and open sessions. This information may be used to resolve any problems with the use of the PS CLEMENTINE PRO product installed and configured to use the network license. PS License Server installation PS License Server installation is performed on a machine that acts as a license server. It should be a computer operating under the control of a Windows operating system. The licensing process in Windows environment is described in the Software activation section of the PS CLEMENTINE PRO Help document. Starting the installation From the PS CLEMENTINE PRO installation media, run (using administrator credentials): \Installation_files\LicenseServer\PS_Lic_Srv.exe. The installation procedure is a standard one and you can go to each subsequent or previous step by clicking the Next or Back buttons respectively. Welcome screen The installation process first unpacks files from an archive, and then displays the welcome screen of the installation wizard.

2 2 To go to the next steps of the installation process, click NEXT. License Agreement In the second step, the user must read and accept the terms of the license agreement of PS License Server. Full text of the license agreement is also available in the document PS_ License_Agreement.pdf, located in the License_Agreement folder. Starting the installation of PS License Server is dependent on reading the contents of the license and accepting its terms. You agree to the license terms described by pressing the ACCEPT button. Installation location In this step, you can select the installation folder for PS License Server software. Type in the Destination folder field the full path to the folder where PS License Server will be installed. You can also select a destination folder by pressing the BROWSE button. It is recommended to leave the default installation path. Click the INSTALL button to begin the step of copying files and registering them in the operating system. Installation The progress of the installation process as a progress bar is shown on the screen. You can access more detailed information about the completed and processed installation steps by clicking the SHOW DETAILS button.

3 3 During the installation process you may see additional messages and information windows that do not require user action. Finish the installation wizard The screen contains information about the completion of the installation wizard. User can choose whether the installer should initiate restarting automatically or the user will restart the machine manually. Select the appropriate option and click FINISH to finish the PS License Server installation process. After the installation in the operating system appears PS License Administrator program. Further steps After installing PS License Server you should: z activate network license z install the PS CLEMENTINE PRO, Central Processing: Central Machine type (optional step depending on whether the implementation of such a machine is planned), z install on user machines the PS CLEMENTINE PRO using the network license. Details of installing PS CLEMENTINE PRO and activating the license for this solution are given in the installation instructions of the client application.

4 4 License management In an environment that uses the PS CLEMENTINE PRO solution with Central Processing architecture, proper license management is essential to maximize the productivity while optimizing costs. Various licensing configurations allow flexible adaptation of the resources and needs of the organization. Necessary conditions to run the solution Regardless of the configuration model of PS CLEMENTINE PRO solution, Central Processing type, it is important to keep in mind that there are several conditions needed for workstations and central processing machine collaboration: z On the machine where the PS License Server is installed, make sure that the Windows service called Sentinel RMS License Manager is running. This service is required to activate network licenses on workstations. z The machine running the Sentinel RMS License Manager must be constantly available within the network where the workstations are located. The network administrator should consider this while determining the availability of network resources and defining security policies (for example, when configuring a firewall rules). z Regardless of the number of purchased network licenses, keep in mind that the central processing machine for PS CLEMENTINE PRO (if installed) must have one license permanently reserved for its own use. If this point is not secured, it may happen that jobs or analytical streams commissioned to execute will not run. Possible options of licensing PS CLEMENTINE PRO with Central Processing architecture can be offered in a few possible license configurations, depending on the resources and needs of the organization: z One network license reserved for the central processing machine and an exact number of authorized licenses, each for a particular machine. In this model standalone analytical workstations activated with authorized licenses can run simultaneously and independently from others. z The exact number of network licenses, including one reserved for a central processing machine, and the others for use by workstations. In this model, the solution can be used on an unlimited number of machines, however can operate at the same time up to the maximum number of workstations specified by the number of available machines in the license (including one license for central machine if implemented). z Mixed model: One network license reserved for a central processing machine, an exact number of authorized licenses for specific machines, and number of network licenses for simultaneous use by any workstation. This model allows analysts to be able to work at any time using authorized licenses and, in addition, allows working concurrently on specified number of machines. In all of these variants of PS CLEMENTINE PRO solution each analytical machine with given license can work locally using its own analytical engine independent of others. Analytical jobs running on the central processing machine are executed sequentially, according to given license.

5 5 License management The status of IBM SPSS software solution license can be controlled with the WlmAdmin application. After installation of the license manager, a new program group, Predictive Solutions is added to Windows Start Menu. One of the programs is PS License Administrator (WlmAdmin.exe). This program collects information from all PS and IBM SPSS license manager services in a local network and displays them as a summary of available licenses. Each host with active Sentinel RMS License Manager service broadcasts in the network information on currently used IBM SPSS licenses, and the WlmAdmin license administrator application displays this information. If a license server service was not automatically detected by WlmAdmin, it can be added manually by providing name (or IP address) of the host with active Sentinel RMS License Manager license. The WlmAdmin license administrator application can be used to update licenses, add new licenses or disable license monitoring by the license manager service. All license management options are available in a right mouse button context menu. Additional applications that streamline license administration are installed as well during installation. They are available in the bin product subdirectory and run using system command line (cmd.exe). Examples: z lswhere.exe displays a list of network license managers z lmshowlic.exe shows available licenses on the specified server z echoid.exe displays the unique hardware code of the machine with the license manager

6 6 These applications can be run by a PS CLEMENTINE PRO end user to identify license problems. More information on administration tools and configuration of the license manager service can be found in PS License Server help system. By default, Help folder (Default.htm) is in the installation directory of PS License Server. IBM SPSS license renewal Licenses are updated (renewed) or added with the PS Activator application. The WlmAdmin license administrator application can be used to update licenses, add new licenses or disable license monitoring by the license manager service. Note that you can add new licenses using WlmAdmin only if you have license codes for a specific license server. If you have only authorization codes, they are added (and authorized) with PS Activator.

7 7 License lending One of the most interesting features of the licensing system is the option to detach individual licenses from PS CLEMENTINE PRO and IBM SPSS network license pool. This way, the users may use network licenses on their mobile computers outside of the network with a license server. A PS CLEMENTINE PRO (IBM SPSS Modeler program) license is lent to a user from a pool of network licenses for a few days or even weeks (by default 3 days). The license administrator decides what part (in percent) of the pool of network licenses can be separated by users and used outside of the network. It is done with the LSERVOPTS environment variable and com <percentage> parameter. Value 0 after the com parameters blocks network license lending. On the other hand, value 100 (not recommended) allows users to detach all licenses from the pool. In Windows, the LSERVOPTS environment variable and its values are defined in the Control Panel > System and security > System > Advanced system settings > Advanced > Environment variables. Environment variables can be set in the system command line. In the system where PS License Server has been installed, the administrator defines the value of this variable as needed. For example, half of the licenses on the server may be detached by IBM SPSS Modeler end users when the environment variable is configured with com 50: SET LSERVOPTS= com 50 f C: \Logs\LogfileLM.err l C: \Logs\LogfileLM.txt Options f and l are related to location of logs of service operation.

8 8 PS CLEMENTINE PRO (IBM SPSS Modeler) user detaches a network license for their copy of the program using a special tool: Commuter Utility (licensecommute.bat) in the IBM SPSS installation folder. This tool is installed during installation of a solution for this type of network license. A user who is connecting to a network with a detached license should return it to the network license pool monitored by PS License Server before the lent license expires. A license must be returned to the same license server, from which it was detached. If the license is not returned by the user prior to its expiry, it is automatically returned on the server to the pool of licenses available for lending and IBM SPSS Modeler stops working on the workstation. License administrator may preview on license servers the number of all licenses being used, including detached ones (Commuter), which are marked as In use.

9 9 Reservation of network licenses A part of all network licenses for IBM SPSS Modeler (a component of the PS CLEMENTINE PRO solution) stored on a license server may be reserved for key users. Such reserved license is waiting for a specific user or someone who will demand it by activating the program on a specific computer in the network. No one from outside the defined group of users or computers may use the pool of reserved licenses. This way, for example, you can reserve one exclusive license for the PS CLEMENTINE PRO central processing machine on which the PS CLEMENTINE Dispatcher is running. Licenses are reserved by the Administrator with the Wlsgrmgr tool. The application is available in the directory where PS License Server is installed (by default in the C: \Program Files\Predictive Solutions\PS License Server\WinNT subdirectory). The program can be run from the PS License Administrator (WlmAdmin) application with the Edit > Reservation File menu.

10 10 Defined groups of users and computers are assigned to a specific license (FeatureName). This way, activation of individual modules of PS CLEMENTINE PRO can be reserved for selected users. Other users from outside the privileged group are barred despite having the modules installed. If the pool of available licenses has some unreserved licenses, they are distributed among other users of the program. Apart from reserving licenses for specific users or machines, the administrator may define groups barred from licenses for the whole program or its selected modules. These computers or users do not have access to licenses. After configuration of a new license reservation file or modifying an existing one, the license manager service (Sentinel RMS License Manager) has to be restarted.
