1 Resolve 8.3 File Name User Guide Introduction Resolve 8.3 File Name To improve File server performance, Server Admin disables 8.3 file creations. Delphi autopatch is built on DOS technology and it uses 8.3 file names to deploy autopatch files. If respective 8.3 file names are not available on application server, autopatch fails to deploy respective files. This utility will check 8.3 file name for files and folders used in autopatch and resolve if required. About Resolve 8.3 File Name Utility This utility (Resolve8dot3Name.exe) is available in SP2-AP2 autopatch package in root folder. Resolve8dot3Name.exe.config file is pre-configured by release engineer for SP2-AP2 autopatch. Note: User should NOT modify this file. 2 When to run Resolve 8.3 File Name Utility Windows Server 2003 onwards Microsoft provides a registry key to enable/disable 8.3 file creations. Affected Delphi Application Server OS: Windows Server 2008 Windows Server 2008 R2 Windows Server 2012 Windows Server 2012 R2 Registry key Path: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem Registry key: NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation Default Value: 2 Value Meaning 0 NTFS creates short file names. This setting enables applications that cannot process long file names and computers that use different code pages to find the files. 1 NTFS does not create short file names. Although this setting increases file performance, applications that cannot process long file names, and computers that use different code pages, might not be able to find the files. 2 NTFS sets the 8.3 naming convention creation on a per volume basis. 3 NTFS disables 8dot3 name creation on all volumes except the system volume It has been observed that some Server Admin disable 8.3 file creation on Delphi Application server to improve server performance. If Support or SEG tries to deploy Delphi autopatch on such Application Server it will fail to copy autopatch files or folder which contains ~ in its 8.3 file name. SEG or Support need to execute this utility before they execute Delphi 2015 SP2-AP2 autopatch on Application Server. 2 newmarketinc.com

4 How to run Resolve 8.3 File Name: 1. Execute Resolve8dot3Name.exe utility from unzipped Delphi 2015 SP2-AP2 autopatch 2. By default utility will populate Delphi Application Path and Delphi Autopatch Path 3. User can change Delphi Application and Autopatch folder path if required using button. 4. Click on START button to start process. 5. Utility will identify and fix 8.3 file names for required files and folder configured in Resolve8dot2Name.exe.config. 6. Utility is preconfigured with required files & folders and their respective 8.3 file names, if any of File or folder does not exists on Application Server it will log such issues in log file Resolve8dot3Name_Errors.txt. User can review such errors by clicking Open Log File. To resolve this issue user has to manually create or copy required files or folders and re-execute this Utility. 7. If Utility cannot fix 8.3 file names automatically, it will create a batch file Resolve8dot3Name_Batch.bat. In such cases user will see Batch File location button enabled. On clicking of that button it will open folder location where batch file resides. User has to open command prompt and execute this file to fix remaining 8.3 file names manually. Follow below steps to execute Resolve8dot3Name_Batch.bat : a. Follow Appendix A to know existing value of NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation registry key. b. Note down existing value. c. Go to command prompt and go to file location of Resolve8dot3Name_Batch.bat d. Execute batch file. e. Set registry key, captured in step b by following Appendix A. 4 newmarketinc.com

5 Troubleshooting Resolve 8.3 File Name: 1. Not able to launch Utility: Problem: Launch of Resolve 8.3 File Name failed. Possible root cause: 1. Microsoft.net 3.5 is not installed 2. User has insufficient privileges to execute the utility 3. UAC setting is turned off 4. DEP setting are configured only for required windows services 2. Utility error out while modifying registry key Problem: Utility erred out while modify registry key NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation Possible root cause: 1. User does not have access to registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem\NtfsDisable8dot3N amecreation 2. User does not have sufficient privileges to modify key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem\NtfsDisable8dot3N amecreation 3. Getting Access denied error for file while manually executing Resolve8dot3Name_batch.bat Problem: denied error while executing Resolve8dot3Name_batch.bat file manually user see Access Possible root cause: 1. Ensure that file is not in use by any process or user. 2. Ensure that file is not marked as Read only. Uncheck Read-only flag for that file and rerun the Utility. 5 newmarketinc.com

4. Right-click the NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation entry and select Modify from the drop-down menu. The Edit DWORD Value page opens. 5. Note down existing value of this registry key. 6.
