2 God Account Every Windows computer has an administrator account, in addition to the one created when you initially run windows. This administrator account is often hidden (not enabled) in Windows. It is called the god account because it is the most powerful administrator account We ll show you how to enable it as this is the account you want to always be able to get into you computer so you can create or delete any another account. If your lock screen does not show the Administrator account You ll need to enable the god account Open a command prompt in administrator mode by entering cmd in search box Right click on cmd.exe Click Run as Administrator In the User Account Control Click Yes In the command prompt enter: Net user administrator /active:yes Windows 10 Login Accounts V1-0 June 6, 2016 Page 1

3 Create God Account You should receive a notice that the command completed successfully Now your lock scrren will include the God Account This is the account to use to create the password reset disk. The password for this account is by default NO PASSWORD!! So after you make your reset disk put a secure password on this account Disable God Account Open command prompt as above and enter: Net user administrator /active:no You should receive a notice that the command completed successfully Reminder: if you leave this account active be sure you have a good password on it. 4 Create Password Reset Disk Log in as God Administrator and Scroll to bottom of Control Panel Click on User Accounts Click Create a password reset disk This is Windows way of telling you au SB flash drive is needed. 6 Create Password Reset Disk Process goes very quickly When it finishes Click Next The Completing wizard appears. Click Finish Notes: 1) This file works even if account name and/or password are changed as we ll see shortly 2) If another reset file is created, this one will NOT work. All such files created are called: userkey.psw. Recommend you save them in a folder named to identify the computer and user name, such as Dell -- John. This shows how to keep password reset disks for a computer called Desktop and one called Laptop. Where each folder has the appropriate userkey.psw for that computer. When you wish to recover, you must copy the userkey.psw file from the appropriate folder to the root directory. We ll see how do to this in just a minute. 7 Create User Account There are many reasons to add another user account: 1) To create an account for guests 2) To create an account that is a Microsoft account 3) To create another administrator account Open Control Panel and then click User Accounts Now click on Manage another account Click Add a user account Click here Windows 10 Login Accounts V1-0 June 6, 2016 Page 6

8 Create User Account One more attempt to get you to create a Microsoft account Click Local account Fill in name Password hint Click Next No password is OK for this account, if you are going to create administrator, be sure to use a good password. 10 Change Account Password Login to the Account you wish to change In the Settings App select Accounts Click Sign-in options In the right side under Password Click Change Whenever you change your password this screen appears Enter current password (ccsc) Click Next Now enter new password (test) twice Provide a hint Click Next Confirming that you want to proceed Click Finish Windows 10 Login Accounts V1-0 June 6, 2016 Page 9

11 Use Password Reset Disk On the Start Menu Click on Account Click on Sign out Now you see a choice for login names Click on Account Enter the WRONG password eg happy Windows 10 Login Accounts V1-0 June 6, 2016 Page 10

12 Use Password Reset Disk Windows says wrong password Click OK Notice that your password hint shows here Now click on Reset password If your USB drive is not inserted, you will be reminded to insert it The Welcome to the Password Reset Wizard appears Click on Next Windows 10 Login Accounts V1-0 June 6, 2016 Page 11

13 Use Password Reset Disk The Insert the Password Rest Disk appears Select the drive Click on Next Be sure the appropriate userkey.psw file is in root directory of the USB drive. 16 Switch from Local Account to Microsoft Account Here we are asked for the current password so someone can t change this while you are away from your computer Enter current password Click Next Here you can set it so you log in with PIN (instead of your password! be careful on mobile devices!!) 17 Switch from Local Account to Microsoft Account PIN can be more than 4 numbers Enter twice Click OK Before you can use the PIN you need to prove who you are.
