1.3 Installation DVD Tekla Structures installation software and environments are available for download in Tekla Downloads only. Previously, they were also available on the Tekla Structures installation DVD. 1.4 Service packs and progress releases Starting from Tekla Structures 2016, version updates that complement main and intermediate versions of Tekla Structures are named as follows: Service pack In earlier Tekla Structures versions, service packs are called service releases. Progress release In earlier Tekla Structures versions, progress releases are called progress versions. 1.5 Using Tekla Structures with application and desktop virtualization Using Tekla Structures with the Citrix application and desktop virtualization is a flexible and safe way to quickly add users to Tekla Structures projects without locally installing Tekla Structures and copying project data to a user's computer. Using Tekla Structures from a centralized location ensures that all users in the project are using the same project environment set-up. The Tekla Structures software and project data is available for all authorized users in the project regardless of their geographical location. Streaming applications from the server enables the use of Tekla Structures on client computers, tablets and smartphones that have different hardware and software configurations. The project data is protected as everything is stored only on the server. The key components for using Tekla Structures with the Citrix application and desktop virtualization are: Windows server User groups defined on the server Access rights for user groups defined on the server Citrix Receiver installed on client computers Tekla Structures installed on a server or on a virtual machine running on the server Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 7 Service packs and progress releases

You can also Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 17 Checking Tekla Structures setup

change the setup. To view the current setup, go to the File menu and click Settings Modeling changes See below for information about new features, improvements and changes in modeling in Tekla Structures Organizer There is a new category type, property category, that you can use to add properties to model objects. You can use existing user-defined attributes in the categories and add values to them, or you can create user-defined attributes as custom properties in Organizer and use these in the property categories. You can now define which command buttons are shown on the Object Browser toolbar. Click Settings commands., go to the Toolbar tab and select the Assembly and cast unit hierarchy levels are now shown in different shades of blue in Object Browser. To show the objects in the assemblies and cast Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 18 Modeling changes

units that are currently listed in Object Browser, click and select Show content. You can now select in Object Browser how the categories are shown in the Object Browser table. Click and select the appropriate option: Automated shows the union of the object content of categories that are under the same category root and the intersection of the object content of categories that are in different category roots. Separate categories shows the objects per category. Unions of categories Intersection of categories In Settings, it is now easier to search for object properties. You can now select an option from the Group list to show the recently modified properties, and the list of properties that are used in the property templates. When defining the automated location breakdown structure, you can now enter the height of the top floor on the Floor tab in the Boundary boxes for locations dialog box. The floor height is shown next to the created floor. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 19 Organizer

When you modify a building coordinate, and a section has the same coordinate, the section coordinate now changes to the modified building coordinate. You can now manually add a floor to a building that has an automated location breakdown structure. When defining the automated object content of custom categories, you can now select whether the content is a union, intersection or difference of the categories and filters used in the rules. In the example image below, the category contains Tekla Structures pour objects except for those that are also in the Elevator category. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 20 Organizer

You can now modify the properties of multiple categories at the same time. The properties you can modify depend on the categories you have selected. You can now adjust the size of the category properties dialog box. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 21 Organizer

When you export property templates, categories and color sets from Organizer, the file extensions of the export files are now.propertytemplate,.category, and.colorset Task Manager Three new columns have been added to the Task Manager dialog box: Completeness tracking, Scheduling mode, and Move with predecessor. On the General tab in the Task Information dialog box, the dependency option names have been changed as follows: Dependency changed to Move with predecessor Successor moved only forward changed to Only forward Success moved always when predecessor moved changed to Forward and backward On the Tracking tab in the Task Information dialog box, the tracking options names have been changed as follows: Tracking mode changed to Completeness tracking Manual changed to Task level Linked to objects changed to Object level On the Objects tab in the Task Information dialog box, the following changes have been made: Order column changed to Sequencing order Content type column has been added. You can now click to select all objects on the Objects tab and then click to set the sequencing order of objects. To show the order information in the model, select one or more objects in the table and then either click the new button or press Ctrl + D. You can now copy property values to several properties at the same time. Right-click a property and select Copy Value. Then select one or more properties, right-click and select Paste Value. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 22 Task Manager

Previously, you could open the Task Information dialog box with several tasks selected. This is not possible anymore. You can modify several tasks at the same time in the Task Manager main dialog box. You can now lock one or more tasks at one go. Select the tasks, rightclick and select Lock Task. If you select several tasks, and not all of them are already locked, Task Manager shows in front of the Lock Task command or selected tasks. The Unlock Selected Tasks, Lock Selected Tasks, Unlock All Tasks, and Lock All Tasks commands have been removed. You can now mark several tasks as milestone tasks at one go. Select the tasks, right-click and select Milestone Task. If you select several tasks, and not all of them are already milestone tasks, Task Manager shows front of the Milestone Task command. in 1.21 New model object type: Surface Tekla Structures 2016 introduces a new model object type, surface. Surfaces can be used for calculating surface areas, such as formwork areas. Surfaces are planar and have zero thickness. You can add surfaces to the faces of parts and pour objects. Surfaces cannot exist as standalone objects. You can add surfaces to any face geometry, for example curved faces. This was not previously possible by using surface treatment. To create surfaces in a model, go to the Edit tab and click Surfaces --> Add surface to face. Then select the part face or pour object face to which you want to add the surface. There can be holes in the part or pour object to which the surface is added, and the holes may have been created by creating cuts, connecting parts, or adding closed pour breaks. In all these cases, you can define whether to have Tekla Structures cut the surface by the holes. Select Yes or No in the Create holes list in the Surface properties dialog box. In the examples below, the column on the left has no surface. The column in the middle has a preview of a surface. The column on the right has a surface that is cut by the hole in the column. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 23 New model object type: Surface

Surfaces are associated with the objects they are attached to. A surface can be associated with either a cast-in-place part or a pour object, but not with both. Surfaces associated with parts or pours can be shown in reports as belonging to those objects. If you modify the geometry of the associated part, the surface will adapt to the changes. If you delete or move the associated part, the surface will follow. If you copy an object that has a surface, the surface will not be copied. If a surface is added to a pour object, it will not automatically adapt to changes that only affect the pour object, such as inserting pour breaks. You can show and hide surfaces by using the Surface treatment and surfaces check box in the Display dialog box. When you want to select surfaces, use the Select surface treatments and surfaces selection switch. You can filter surfaces like any other model objects. You can include surfaces in reports by using the new content type SURFACE in Template Editor. Limitations Surfaces do not have handles. Surfaces do not recognize faces created by displaying objects with high accuracy, such as curved profile fillets. Surfaces cannot be copied. Surfaces cannot be moved or rotated without the associated object. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 24 New model object type: Surface

Surfaces are not shown in drawings New rendering option: Grayscale The representation option Hidden lines of model parts and component objects has been replaced by a new rendering option Grayscale. The keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+3 for parts and Shift+3 for component objects now change the rendering in model views to grayscale Improvements in snapping You can no longer accidentally snap to objects that are invisible, or that you cannot see in the model through opaque surfaces or other objects. For example, when you use the rendering option Parts rendered (Ctrl+4), you cannot snap to hidden object lines or points, whereas with the rendering option Parts rendered wireframe (Ctrl+2) you can. You can now only snap to the center lines of parts in the model views where the center lines are set visible. You can now snap to the intersection of two construction circles. The circles must be in the same plane. You can again use perpendicular snapping with construction circles Improvements in pour objects The performance of models with pour objects has been improved. For example, switching between part and pour view and creating or modifying parts or pour breaks are faster now. Pour solid objects have been improved. For example, there are less solid errors and pour volumes are more accurate. Showing concrete structures Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 25 New rendering option: Grayscale

as continuous and showing internal lines in pour objects have also been improved. The basic pour object properties Pour number, Pour type, and Concrete mixture are no longer user-defined attributes, but standard Tekla Structures object properties. Also the Pour Object Properties dialog box is now a standard properties dialog box. The rest of the pour object properties are still user-defined attributes in the Pour object dialog box. NOTE If you have existing templates that show pour object properties that are no longer user-defined attributes, update the templates to use the standard template attributes instead of the USERDEFINED template attributes Improvements in Rebar Shape Manager It is now possible to make bending rules based on custom properties. The available custom properties are defined in a data file named RebarShapeManager.CustomProperties.dat. A custom property can be any rebar property value, including a user-defined attribute. Custom properties are available in a list in the New bending rule dialog box like any other properties. The comparison operator list includes two new operators Contains and Does not contain, which can only be used with custom properties that have data type string. A new option Formula has been added to the rightmost list in the New bending rule dialog box. When this option is selected, it is possible to Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 26 Improvements in Rebar Shape Manager

enter the formula in the edit box. The formula may contain the numerical rule options included in the lists. Note that using formulas instead of any of the predefined rule options may reduce the performance in case the formulas are used extensively Drawing changes See below for information about new features, improvements and changes in drawings in Tekla Structures New 2D Library 2D Library allows you to quickly save and reuse drawing sections and details. 2D Library is always available in the side pane when you have a drawing open. You can create details from any drawing objects, including parts, texts and marks, or from DWG files. Companies have the possibility to create and maintain project- or company-specific collections of details that you can insert to any drawing with one click. Using 2D Library details saves time as you do not need to recreate standard details or text entries every time you need them, nor create and maintain standard details as DWG files. How to use 2D Library Open and view 2D Library Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 27 Drawing changes

To see the contents of different folders in 2D Library, click the Folder button. The details in the current model folder are always shown. The project, firm and system folders are shown, if the folder paths are defined correctly for the advanced options XS_PROJECT, XS_FIRM, and XS_SYSTEM. The details are stored in the \Drawing Details folder. This folder is automatically created in the current model folder when you create a detail for the first time. Insert details in drawings 1. If you always want to insert a detail inside a view when necessary, click the Options button in 2D Library, select Create view if needed, and select the predefined view properties that you want to use. 2. Click a detail and then click the view or drawing to place the detail. Create your own details Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 28 New 2D Library

1. Select the objects that you want to include in the detail. 2. In 2D Library, go to the current model folder or one of its subfolders. You can also create a new folder. 3. Click the New detail from selected object button. 4. Pick a reference point in the drawing, and then pick two points to capture a sample image of the detail. 5. To modify the detail name, description, and scale, and to change the sample image, click the detail in 2D Library. Modify and update details You can modify all instances of a detail by updating the detail with new or modified objects. 1. Insert a detail in a drawing and explode it by right-clicking the detail and selecting Explode. 2. Modify the exploded detail objects or add new ones. 3. Select all detail objects, including any new ones, right-click the detail in 2D Library view and select Update detail with selected objects. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 29 New 2D Library

1.28 Weld solids in drawings Tekla Structures can now visualize in drawing welds the weld seams, weld paths and weld solids that you have created in the model. You can show welds as outlines or as paths, and show hidden lines, which improves your drawings and the included fabrication information, and makes weld management and coordination easier. With weld solids you can get better location information of the weld seam start point, weld path, and weld seam end point. You can only add dimensions to welds manually in an open drawing; automatic dimensions are not available for weld solids. Welds are not associative, so the manual dimensions do not follow the model updates. Now that you can see the whole weld outline at a glance: It is easier to dimension continuous welds with complex weld paths, including welds that go around part corners, and welds that do not start from or end to a part corner. It is easier to dimension weld cross-sections. Welds have better visualization in 3D drawings, where you can now also show weld hidden lines. You can modify the representation of the weld solids in single-part drawings and assembly drawings in the Welding properties dialog box on drawing, view and object level: In the Representation list, you can select either Outline or Path. Outline: Path: You can also select whether to show hidden lines of other welds (Hidden lines on/off) and hidden lines of the weld itself (Own hidden lines on/off). Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 30 Weld solids in drawings

The Representation option is set to Outline, the Hidden lines option to on, and the hidden lines color is set to turquoise and the line type to dashed line: On the Appearance tab, you can now adjust the color and line type of the hidden lines. In general arrangement drawings, you can only modify the representation on object and view level, not on drawing level. Weld solids are shown in drawings for the following types of welds: Weld solids are shown in drawings for those weld types that have real solid support. Welds that have no real solid support are shown in the model with a hexagonal placeholder, and report 0.00 mm 2 as the cs area value. Custom cross-section welds are also supported. Examples In the first example, the welds on the right and in the middle have outlines and hidden lines. The weld on the left shows the path and hidden lines: Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 31 Weld solids in drawings

The second example is a cross-section of the structure. The welds left and in the middle have outlines, and the weld on the right shows the path. The welds have manual dimensions. The last example is a detail view showing the weld outline and dimensions Associative notes supported in drawing reference objects You can now add associative notes to reference objects in drawings. A new content type Reference object has been added in the Associative note properties dialog box. You can add text, attributes, symbols, attributes, and templates as elements in the reference object notes. 1. On the Drawing tab, hold down Shift, click the down arrow ne Note and select one of the associative note commands. 2. In the Associative note properties dialog box, select the elements to include in the reference object. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 32 Associative notes supported in drawing reference objects

3. Click OK, click the reference object, and then click a position for the note Improvements in drawing dimensions Dimension tags for curved dimensions Curved radial and orthogonal dimensions now support dimension tags. In the Dimension properties dialog box, there is a new option Curved dimension tag type, which controls how the tags are aligned to the dimension: New dimension line settings for reinforcement dimension lines The Drawing dimensions settings in the Options dialog box now contain a new option Dimension line settings. You can save the dimension properties file in the Dimension Properties dialog box and take the properties file into use in rebar dimensioning using this new setting. New rebar dimension representations Rebar dimension line now has two new options for showing tapered rebar groups: In the Drawing dimensions settings in the Options dialog box, for the option Tapered skewed reinforcement group, you can select skewed or horizontal presentation, and for the option Tapered curved reinforcement group curved or horizontal presentation. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 33 Improvements in drawing dimensions

Below is an example of tapered skewed reinforcement group dimensions that are shown skewed: The same dimensions not skewed: Below is an example of tapered curved reinforcement group dimensions that are shown curved: Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 34 Improvements in drawing dimensions

The same dimensions not curved: Drawing view filters supported in hole and recess dimensioning You can now use drawing view filters in hole and recess dimensioning. Previously only model selection filters worked Improvements in drawing marks More elements in pour object marks Pour object marks now have the following new elements in GA drawings: Pour number, Pour type and Concrete mixture. For more information on new pour object properties, see section "Improvements in pour objects" in Modeling changes (page 18). New leader line option in reinforcement marks A new leader line option, One leader line to group, has been added to the Identical marks in same cast unit list in the Reinforcement mark panel and in the Merged reinforcement mark dialog box. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 35 Improvements in drawing marks

1.32 Drawing texts Now it is possible to use word wrapping in text objects in drawings. To activate word wrapping in a text object, go to the Text properties dialog box and set Word wrapping to On. You can set the text line length using the Ruler width option. When you activate word wrapping, the text object gets a handle, and you can drag the handle to make the text narrower or wider, and the words will wrap. Now the text anchor point stays at the upper-left corner when the text content is modified. Previously, the anchor point was in the bottom-left corner, and when rows were added in the text box, the box would grow upwards or both ways. Now the box only grows downwards. One line of text: Text lines added in earlier versions: Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 36 Drawing texts

Text lines added in version 2016: 1.33 More accessible drawing commands The following drawing commands are now more accessible as they were added to the ribbon: Create cut lines Copy shape with offset Create round chamfer Create straight chamfer Create fillet Align drawing objects to the right Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 37 More accessible drawing commands

Align drawing objects to the left Align drawing objects to the top Align drawing objects to the bottom Align drawing objects to the vertical center Align drawing objects to the horizontal center Position drawing objects to the horizontal center at equal distances Position drawing objects to the vertical center at equal distances Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 38 Customized line colors in printing

1.34 Customized line colors in printing You can now map the individual Tekla Structures line colors to customized print colors. The print colors are used in printing, plotting and PDF generation when you are printing in color. Set the print color for each row by clicking the boxes under Color on output and selecting a new color. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 39 Customized line colors in printing

To reset an individual print color, click the color box under Color on screen on the desired row, and the Color on output box will change to the same color. To reset all print colors to be the same as the colors on screen, click the Reset colors button. The Color on output setting only applies when the Color option is set to Color on the Options tab Fillet edges in models and drawings In Tekla Structures 2016, straight and curved part faces are clearly separated from each other, and the boundaries between them are shown as fillet edges in model views and in drawings. Fillet edges can be shown in all drawing types for parts and pours. For example, profiles with rounded cross section corners and parts with curved chamfers or segments now have fillet edges. The filled edges are shown by default. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 40 Fillet edges in models and drawings

1.36 Fillet edges in model views The fillet edges in profiles are shown in model views only when you show parts with high accuracy. For more information, see Show parts with high accuracy and XS_SOLID_USE_HIGHER_ACCURACY. Fillet edges are not shown in model views if you have the DX rendering switch on in File menu --> Settings Fillet edges in drawings Fillet edges are visible by default for new drawings, and invisible for drawings that are created in a Tekla Structures version earlier than For profiles, Exact representation might be required to show the fillet edges, depending on the profile. You can show fillet edges in Part properties and in Pour object properties on drawing, view and object level: In Part properties or Pour object properties, under Additional marks, ensure that the Fillet edges on/off check box is selected. If you need to change part representation for profiles to show the fillet edges, select Exact from the Part representation list. The profiles are now shown with true Exact representation. In previous versions, selecting the Exact representation did not have any effect on Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 41 Fillet edges in drawings

profile representation, and profiles were always shown in the Outline representation. The example below shows a drawing with some rectangular hollow sections in exact representation, first in an older Tekla Structures version and then in version Exact representation in earlier Tekla Structures versions: Exact representation and fillet edges in Tekla Structures version 2016: Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 42 Interoperability changes

1.38 Interoperability changes See below for information about new features, improvements and changes in import and export in Tekla Structures Improvements in reference models Improved change detection The Change detection between the different versions of the same reference model has been developed further, and you can now also check the changes on object level. 44 You can do any of the following in the changes list and in the details list: Click a row in the changes list to open its property details list in the side pane. The property details list contains at least the name, location as origin and property set properties, basically the content is the same as in the reference object inquiry report. The details list also indicates how the individual properties have changed in the Old value and New value columns. To show the object in the model, click a row in the changes list, and then select the Select objects in model view check box. To zoom to the selected object in the model, click a row in the changes list and then select the Zoom to selected check box. To show only changes in the property details list, click a row in the changes list and then select the Show only changes check box. You can search for specific items using the search box at the bottom. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 44 Improvements in reference models

If the changes list disappears, you can bring it back by clicking the Changes list button in the side pane. If the details list disappears, you can bring it back by clicking the Properties details button in the side pane. These two buttons are only visible when the Change detection command is active. Detect changes between reference model versions and update reference model You can also update a reference model with another version of the model, and detect the changes between these two reference model versions. For example, you may want to use this option when you have done the modifications in the reference model version, and want to update the original reference model with new information. 1. When you have a reference model open, open another version of the reference model using the File box in the reference model details pane and then click Modify. This updates the original reference model with the changed information in the other reference model version. You can open several versions, but you can only compare two versions at a time. You do not need to copy the reference models to the model folder. 2. Open the Change detection list by clicking the arrow on the Change detection row. In the Change detection list, the current version is bolded. The newest version is at the top and the oldest at the bottom. 3. Ensure that the versions that you want to compare are visible by setting the eye button active Change detection list. for both reference model versions in the Comparison is active only when two eye buttons are active. You cannot have more that two eye buttons open at the same time. If you click a third eye button open, the older version from previously active and visible model is set invisible and the comparison is done between the two versions that have an active eye. 4. Select any of the check boxes for the following options: Changed, Unchanged, Inserted and/or Deleted and then click Update view. The changes list and the property details list are displayed. The changes list content is based on the IFC content and has all physical object types. The colors are the same as the ones in Change detection. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 45 Improvements in reference models

The same functionality is available on the changes list and property details list as in the change detection method described earlier in the section "Detect changes between a new and an older reference model version" above. Improvements in storing reference model data When a reference model is inserted or updated, reference model data is now copied to the Tekla Structures model internal data storage located in the <current model>\datastorage\ref folder, so you do not have to keep manual copies of reference models in your own folders. The reference model is visible even if the original file is removed from its original location. The reference model data in this folder should not be touched. Faster IFC reference models Moving and handling an IFC reference model is now faster thanks to the improvements in the IFC reference model rotation speed. Added support for LandXML You can now import LandXML reference models into Tekla Structures. The LandXML format extends the capabilities of Tekla Structures to show merged Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 46 Improvements in reference models

models, including the infra models. You can now use site surveys directly during modeling for accurate setting out of structure. The supported contents of LandXML files are terrain models, line alignments of roads and railways, and rain water systems. You can export files in.xml format from applications like Bentley InRoads, Autodesk Civil, and Trimble Business Center, and import the.xml files in Tekla Structures as reference models. Tekla Structures supports LandXML 1.2 schema and single-precision floating-point format. An example of an imported LandXML reference model: An example of layers in a LandXML reference model: Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 47 Improvements in reference models

1.40 Improvements in IFC export Spatial hierarchy in exported IFC files In IFC export, you can now use the spatial hierarchy created for a project in Organizer. The IFC files from Tekla Structures can now have the same floor level system as in other software. To use spatial hierarchy, select the option Locations from Organizer in the Export to IFC dialog box. If you select this option, you need to do the following: 1. Create a project hierarchy in Organizer. 2. In Organizer, right-click the project, and select Use for reporting. 3. Before export, synchronize or write the Organizer data in the Tekla Structures model by right-clicking the project in Organizer, and selecting Write to model for reporting. Improved IFC steel fabrication view Steel fabrication view in IFC export has been improved in the following ways: Steel fabrication model view configuration file for property sets and properties (IfcPropertySetConfigurations_AISC.xml) is now included in Tekla Structures installation by default. You can now create property sets for entity types IfcDiscreteAccessory and IfcOpeningElement. IFC export now supports count measure IfcCountMeasure and positive length measure IfcPositiveLenghtMeasure. All unnecessary entity types, such as color, have been removed Improvements in IFC object conversion change management Initial data change management is needed for reducing challenges in construction projects. Tekla Structures now introduces the new IFC object conversion change management functionality for IFC objects that are converted to Tekla Structures native objects. The new IFC object conversion change management provides change detection and management even on object level. You now have two methods available in converting the IFC objects: Direct conversion of the selected IFC objects at one go Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 48 Improvements in IFC export

Converting objects using reference model change management For details about limitations in IFC object conversion, see Limitations in IFC object conversion. Direct conversion of IFC objects Direct conversion converts all selected objects at one go based on the current IFC object conversion settings: 1. Add a reference model using the Reference Models side pane. 2. Select the objects to be converted from the model, and on the Manage tab, click Convert IFC objects. The conversion is done automatically for non-converted objects, and the new (green), changed (yellow), up-to-date (white), and deleted (red) objects are listed in the changes list at the bottom. Each object is on a row on its own, and cuts are listed hierarchically under the related objects. If there were some problems in the conversion, the row color is purple. The conversions status of an object may be Conversion as item, Conversion as extrusion, or No conversion. 3. You can update an object in the list by changing its conversion status to Conversion and clicking Apply changes. Converting selected IFC objects using IFC change management In the new object conversion change management, IFC objects are not converted automatically, but you can to convert the objects according to your Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 49 Improvements in IFC object conversion change management

needs using the conversion changes list. You can first make the initial object conversion and then an update conversion, where you compare the older newer versions of a reference model. Initial conversion 1. Add a reference model using the Reference Models side pane, and click the Start IFC conversion change management button. The current reference model change status is displayed in the changes list and conversion management is activated. The status of an object may be New (green) Changed (yellow), Deleted (red), or Up-to-date (white). If there were some problems in the conversion, the row color is purple. The conversions status of an object may be Conversion as item, Conversion as extrusion, or No conversion. 2. Convert objects by selecting the rows, selecting Conversion in the Conversion status column, and clicking Apply changes. Update conversion 1. Open an older reference model version using the Reference Models side pane. 2. Update the reference model with a new version of the same reference model by selecting a new version file in the File list in the Reference Model details and clicking Modify. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 50 Improvements in IFC object conversion change management

3. Click the Start IFC conversion change management button. 4. Go through the changes in the changes list using the Select objects in model view and Zoom to selection options. To convert all objects with changed conversion status, select all rows, change the Conversion status to Conversion and click Apply changes. TIP: You can also update previously converted objects partially by selecting the Update check box next to a certain property in the property details pane Other improvements in IFC object conversion Tekla Structures now supports conversion of polybeams that have curved sections, and have originally been exported from Tekla Structures Improvements in CNC/DSTV New button Show NC log in the NC Files dialog box You can now check the result of the export, and the parts that were not exported. A new button Show NC log has been added in the NC Files dialog box. The log file dstv_nc.log is saved in the model folder. Improved NC File Header Information dialog box You can now select which elements you add in or remove from the NC file header. Previously this was not possible. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 51 Other improvements in IFC object conversion

Improved pop-marks and contour marking in NC export Now the part name in NC pop-marks and contour marking may contain more names separated by a comma. You do not need to have a space after the comma, but you may have one. Combined NC file and part list export The advanced options XS_DSTV_CREATE_AK_BLOCK_FOR_ALL_PLATES and XS_DSTV_CREATE_AK_BLOCK_FOR_ALL_PROFILES now also work for combined NC files and part list export. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 52 Improvements in Unitechnik export

1.44 Improvements in Unitechnik export New options in Unitechnik export Data specification tab: There is a new option Drawing revision in Unitechnik export to export drawing revision marks. The choices are Empty, Cast unit drawing revision mark or User-defined text. TS configuration tab: Handling of double walls has been improved: Now also the second shell can be turned using the new option Rotate 90 o if pallet width exceeded. Reinforcement tab: There is now a new option for supporting different reinforcement starting points. You can select between Origin in unfolded rebar and Origin in start rebar point. This improvement is related to the unfolded representation of a bent mesh or reinforcing bar. The option also affects the z level of the reinforcement in the resulting Unitechnik file. Reinforcement tab: Hooks are now supported for unfolded reinforcement. There is a new option Yes, with end hooks available for the setting Bent reinf. as unfolded. Hooks form 0, 2 and 5 are detected. Other improvements in Unitechnik export There is a new tab Mounting part data specification, which contains mounting part related fields that were earlier located on other tabs. The Reinf. checking tab has been renamed to Validation. Some content has been moved to this tab from other tabs. The Braced girder export option has been removed. Many of the tabs have been reorganized and content has been moved to other tabs to get the options placed in a more logical order Improvements in Sketchup Tekla Structures now also supports import from Sketchup Importing extensions to the Applications & components catalog You can now import Tekla Structures extensions to the Applications & components catalog. The extensions that you can import to the Applications & components catalog have the.tsep file extension (Tekla Structures extension package). First download the extension from Tekla Warehouse, then open the Applications & components catalog and click > Extension Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 53 Improvements in Sketchup

manager > Import. The imported extensions are installed when you restart Tekla Structures. You can also remove the installed extensions in Extension manager Improvements Export EliPlan file (68) Export EliPlan file (68) now has a new option Export embed z position for exporting the z-level information of embeds. The new option is located on the Data content tab Trimble Connector Trimble Connector enables Tekla Structures to connect with Trimble Connect for sharing reference models. With Trimble Connector, you can attach a Tekla Structures model to a Trimble Connect project and project folders download a reference model from a Trimble Connect project to a Tekla Structures model upload a Tekla Structures reference model to a Trimble Connect project export Tekla Structures model objects as an.ifc reference model to a Trimble Connect project NOTE You need to have a Trimble Connect account before you can start using Trimble Connector. To upload a Tekla Structures reference model to a Trimble Connect project, click File menu --> Export --> Trimble Connect Improvements in Tekla Structural Designer The option Export Selected now includes all grid objects in the.cxl file. This helps when you use filters to select specific objects. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 54 Improvements Export EliPlan file (68)

1.50 Tekla Model Sharing changes Tekla Structures 2016 contains improvements in Tekla Model Sharing. Sharing change detection The visualization and the traceability of the sharing changes has been improved. You can now open a changes list to the bottom pane of Tekla Structures. To open the changes list, do one of the following: On the Quick Access Toolbar, click the Show read in changes button. Click File menu --> Sharing --> Show sharing changes. To automatically show the list after each read in, select the Show changes after read in option in File menu --> Sharing --> Sharing settings. On the bottom pane, you can then click the separate tabs to see the changes according to how they affect the model. The changes are visualized with colors both in the list and in the model. Using the changes list, you can use different tabs to see the different changes use colors to check the status of the change sort the changes filter the changes and edit the filters, if needed view the changes in the model search for specific changes You can also dock the changes list to the bottom pane or the side pane, or move the list somewhere else on the screen. Sharing history You can now check the sharing history of a model event-by-event, and see how the model has evolved by the changes made by other users. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 55 Tekla Model Sharing changes

On the File menu, click Sharing --> Sharing history to open the Sharing history dialog box. In the Sharing history dialog box you can see the list of your read in and write out events in chronological order, and the packets included in the events. For each packet the packet number, person who wrote out the packet and the packet upload time is shown. You can also view the model changes included in a single event by selecting an event and clicking the Show changes button. This opens the changes list to the bottom pane of Tekla Structures. Improvements in read in and write out The read in and write out buttons are now on the Quick Access Toolbar, on top of the ribbon. You can now see whether you can write out your changes immediately or whether you need to first read in, and how many packets you need to read in. The Write out button shows a green arrow when there are no packets that need to be read in before you can write out. You can write out changes immediately. The Write out button shows a gray arrow when there are packets that need to be read in before you can write out changes. The Read in button shows the number of packets that are available to be read in. Note that the green arrow or the number of packets become visible only after you have read in or written out once. This means that in the Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 56 Tekla Model Sharing changes

beginning of a sharing session there can be packets available to be read in even though the number of packets is not shown the Read in button. New settings New settings have been added to the Sharing settings dialog box, in File menu --> Sharing --> Sharing settings. Show changes after read in Only when conflicts exist Select the check box to enable a list that shows the model changes after you have read in. If you select the Only when conflicts exist option, the list is shown only when there are conflicts in the model after read in Advanced option changes Some advanced options have been added or changed in Tekla Structures New advanced options XS_REFERENCE_MODEL_KEEP_VERSIONS_COUNT Use the new advanced option XS_REFERENCE_MODEL_KEEP_VERSIONS_COUNT for cleaning up old imported reference model revisions automatically. The cleanup is done when the reference file is updated. Use XS_DELETE_UNNECESSARY_REFMODEL_FILES_SAFETY_PERIOD to set the time frame for deletion. Tekla Structures deletes the reference models that have been imported at some point but are no longer used, and are not displayed in the Reference Models list. The data related to these reference models is deleted from the current data storage in folder <current model>\datastorage\ref. The original imported reference model is not deleted from its actual folder, for example, from.\reference models. You can use the following values: 0: The cleanup is disabled. This is the default value. Any positive number. For example, value 3 keeps two old revisions of the reference model, in addition to the current revision. This advanced option is model specific and the setting is saved in the options database. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 57 Advanced option changes

XS_DELETE_UNNECESSARY_REFMODEL_FILES_SAFETY_PERIOD This new advanced option defines the time frame after which unnecessary imported reference model files are deleted. Enter the required time frame in days. The advanced option is set to 7 by default. To use this advanced option, you need to set the advanced option XS_REFERENCE_MODEL_KEEP_VERSIONS_COUNT to clean up the unnecessary reference models. In multi-user models, files are kept until safety period has passed. In shared models, files are kept until write out. This advanced option has no effect in shared models. This advanced option is model specific and the setting is saved in the options database. XS_USE_REPAIR_NUMBERING_INSTEAD_OF_NUMBERING Set the advanced option XS_USE_REPAIR_NUMBERING_INSTEAD_OF_NUMBERING to TRUE to automatically repair numbering instead of only running numbering. When this advanced option is set to TRUE: Using the Number modified objects command does the same as using the Diagnose and repair numbering: All command. Using the Number series of selected objects command does the same as using the Diagnose and repair numbering: Series of selected objects command. The default value is FALSE. This advanced option is model specific and the setting is saved in the options database. XS_DSTV_USE_COUNTERSUNK_HOLES If you set the new advanced option XS_DSTV_USE_COUNTERSUNK_HOLES (File menu --> Settings --> Advanced options --> CNC) to FALSE, Tekla Structures will not create CSK holes in DSTV export. The default value is TRUE. This advanced option is model specific and the setting is saved in the options database. XS_USE_SMART_PAN Optimized zooming and panning in drawings is now disabled by default. Sometimes, using optimized zooming and panning results in an unwanted checkerboard effect. To enable optimized zooming and panning in drawings, set the advanced option XS_USE_SMART_PAN to TRUE. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 58 New advanced options

XS_REMOVE_VOID_FROM_BOLT_MATERIAL_THICKNESS The advanced option XS_REMOVE_VOID_FROM_BOLT_MATERIAL_THICKNESS has been working when it has been set in an initialization file. It was removed from the Advanced Options dialog box by mistake in an earlier Tekla Structures version, and has now been added back there in the Modeling Properties category. When set to TRUE, this advanced option removes the gap between two bolted material thicknesses, resulting in a shorter bolt length. This is required, for example, by mast builders. The default value is FALSE. This advanced option is model specific and the setting is saved in the options database. In the example below, the advanced option is set to TRUE. The value "X" will be removed from the bolt length Changed advanced options XS_SOLID_USE_HIGHER_ACCURACY The advanced option XS_SOLID_USE_HIGHER_ACCURACY now only affects the model view and reported calculated values. When you set this advanced option to TRUE in the options.ini file in the model folder: When you have set part representation to Exact in the Display dialog box, parts are shown with roundings. Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 59 Changed advanced options

Part volume, area and net weight is and are closer to real manufactured values. Drawings are no longer affected by this advanced option. This also applies to other features directly specifying the accuracy. XS_ENABLE_POUR_MANAGEMENT The advanced option XS_ENABLE_POUR_MANAGEMENT is now a model option instead of a user option. You need to save and re-open the model for the change to take effect. From then on, every user that opens the model will have the same setting. XS_DSTV_DO_NOT_UNFOLD_POLYBEAM_PLATES The advanced option XS_DSTV_DO_NOT_UNFOLD_POLYBEAM_PLATES is now model specific. XS_DSTV_CREATE_AK_BLOCK_FOR_ALL_PLATES and XS_DSTV_CREATE_AK_BLOCK_FOR_ALL_PROFILES The advanced options XS_DSTV_CREATE_AK_BLOCK_FOR_ALL_PLATES and XS_DSTV_CREATE_AK_BLOCK_FOR_ALL_PROFILES now work also for combined NC files and part list export Template attribute changes Changes in template attributes in Tekla Structures 2016 are described below New content type You can include the new type of model objects, surfaces, in reports. In Template Editor, use the new content type SURFACE with the following attributes: AREA_GROSS AREA_NET AREA ASSOCIATED_OBJECT_ID CLASS_ATTR CONTENTTYPE GUID ID NAME Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 60 Template attribute changes

NUMBER#1 OBJECT_TYPE TYPE 1.56 New template attributes CUSTOM.REBAR_SHAPE_COUPLERS The CUSTOM.REBAR_SHAPE_COUPLERS custom template attribute shows in pull-out pictures the reinforcing bar geometry, bending dimensions, and the graphical symbols representing the couplers at the bar ends. The coupler data is taken from the user-defined attributes from the rebar coupler components Rebar coupler, Rebar end anchor and Split rebar and add coupler. Note that the CUSTOM.REBAR_SHAPE_COUPLERS attribute is available only in graphical fields when the content type is REBAR. In Tekla Structures, ensure that a drawing layout contains the desired table. By default, the rebar_with_couplers table is available in the Drawing layout properties. The drawing needs to contain at least some reinforcing bars as otherwise the table does not have anything to show. END1_CUT_ANGLE_Y, -Z, END2_CUT_ANGLE_Y, -Z The following new template attributes for part cut angle at the end of a profile have been added: END1_CUT_ANGLE_Y END1_CUT_ANGLE_Z Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 61 New template attributes

END2_CUT_ANGLE_Y END2_CUT_ANGLE_Z BOUNDING_BOX_MIN_xxx and BOUNDING_BOX_MAX_xxx Adding reference models now causes less growth in the Tekla Structures model database file. You can no longer get a bounding box for a reference object through automatically set user-defined attributes. You can use the following template attributes instead: BOUNDING_BOX_MIN_X BOUNDING_BOX_MIN_Y BOUNDING_BOX_MIN_Z BOUNDING_BOX_MAX_X BOUNDING_BOX_MAX_Y BOUNDING_BOX_MAX_Z See also BOUNDING_BOX_xxx ExtremaMinX and other min and max extrema UDAs are no longer available for reference objects. Templates and extensions need to be updated regarding this. New template attributes for bolts New template attributes have been added for bolts: HEAD_TYPE can be used for inquiring bolt head type (string). BOLT_COUNTERSUNK can be used for inquiring countersunk (0/1). BOLT_THREAD_LENGTH can be used for inquiring thread length (double). Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 62 New template attributes

1.57 Other changes See below for information about miscellaneous changes and improvements in Tekla Structures DirectX rendering option You now have the option to use DirectX rendering with Tekla Structures. DirectX improves the rendering quality and adds a subtle shading effect to Tekla Structures. If you are using a high-end graphics card, DirectX rendering also improves the overall performance. However, if you are using a low- to mid-range graphics card, the performance may slow down when using DirectX. To achieve the best results, follow these guidelines: Use the default rendering option (OpenGL) with low- to mid-range graphics cards Use the DirectX rendering option with high-end graphics cards, such as nvidia GeForce GTX 970 or 980 Tekla Structures 2016 release notes 63 Other changes
