1 USING PEARL WITH THE WINDOWS VISTA OR WINDOWS 7 OPERATING SYSTEM Summary: All changes must be made by an Administrative user. Before opening Pearl for the first time, you must change the Owner and set Write permissions for C:\Windows\System32 (and, for 64-bit systems, C:\Windows\SysWOW64) and C:\Windows\Help folders on each workstation. Other Word, Access, operating system or printer settings may also need to be changed for Pearl to work correctly. Contents: A. All changes must be made by an Administrative user. B. Windows 7 users must turn off UAC to make the changes. C. Vista users can proceed directly to the section on changing the folder owner. D. Once folder ownership is changed, folder permissions must be changed. E. Vista users can proceed directly to the section on enabling macros. F. Reconnect Pearl to security file if applicable. G. Check code references in Pearl. H. Test Pearl functionality with UAC off. I. Once Pearl opens correctly, Windows 7 users must turn UAC back on. J. Test Pearl functionality with UAC back on. K. Windows Vista printer setup tip WINDOWS 7 USERS ONLY - TURN OFF UAC (WINDOWS VISTA USERS CONTINUE TO NEXT SECTION) The first step for you is to turn off the UAC (User Account Control) setting. It is EXTREMELY important that you remember to turn this back on as soon as you have completed the rest of the steps described in this document. To turn off this control: 1. Click on the Start button in the lower left corner of the start bar on your computer: 2. In the Search box, type User Account; You should see a list display that looks something like the screen example below. 3. Pick the Change User Account Control Settings option 1 P a g e

2 4. Slide the Notify button from the midposition down to the Never Notify position. Click the OK button. 5. Reboot your computer. Then continue on with the rest of this document. 2 P a g e

3 SET THE ADMINISTRATORS GROUP AS OWNER OF SYSTEM FOLDER(S) AND HELP FOLDER 1. Be sure you are logged on to the workstation as an Administrator. IMPORTANT: Later in this document you will be instructed to turn the UAC back on. It is imperative that you do not forget to do this once the following changes have been made. 2. Go to Start > Computer. 3. Navigate to C:\Windows. 4. Right-click on System32 and select Properties. 5. In System32 Properties, click on the Security tab. 7. In Advanced Security Settings for System32, click on the Owner tab. 6. On the Security tab, click the Advanced button. 8. Current owner should be Administrators. If not, Change owner to Administrators and click Apply. If Administrators is not on the Change owner to list, click Edit and click on Other Users or Groups to add it to the list. 9. When you have assigned the Administrators group as the owner, close all dialog boxes for System Repeat these steps for C:\Windows\Help (and, for 64-bit systems, C:\Windows\SysWOW64) as well. 3 P a g e

4 CHANGE PERMISSIONS FOR THE USERS GROUP FOR THE SYSTEM FOLDER(S) AND HELP FOLDER 1. Be sure you are logged on to the workstation as an Administrator. 2. Go to Start > Computer. 3. Navigate to C:\Windows. 4. Right-click on System32 and select Properties. 5. In System32 Properties, click on the Security tab. 6. On the Security tab, click the Edit button. 7. In Permissions for System32, select the Users group and be sure Read & execute, List folder contents, Read and Write are all checked (you may need to scroll down to see Write). Click Apply and then click OK. 8. Windows may display a Windows Security warning. Click Yes. 9. Windows may display Error Applying Security messages. Click Continue on all messages (you may hold down the Enter key on your keyboard to move rapidly through multiple messages if necessary. 10. Repeat these steps for C:\Windows\Help as well. 4 P a g e

5 SET THE MACRO SECURITY LEVEL TO LOW IN MICROSOFT ACCESS IF YOU ARE USING ACCESS 2003: 1. Open Access 2003 without opening Pearl. 2. In the Tools menu, select Macro: Security. 3. Change the setting from Medium to Low. IF YOU ARE USING ACCESS 2007 OR ACCESS 2010: 1. Open Microsoft Access without opening Pearl. 2. Open Access Options a. For Access Click on the Office Button in the upper left corner, then click on the Access Options button. b. For Access 2010 Click on the File Tab on the left side of the screen, then select Options. 5 P a g e

6 3. Select Trust Center and click on the Trust Center Settings button 4. In Macro Settings, select 'Enable all macros' 5. Click OK twice to close the Trust Center and Access Options menus and save the changes 6 P a g e

7 OFFICE 2010 USERS: CORRECT THE 'MICROSOFT OFFICE SOAP TYPE LIBRARY 3.0' REFERENCE (OTHER USERS: CONTINUE TO NEXT SECTION) Due to a bug in Office 2010, users must install the Access 2007 Runtime to correctly register a necessary reference in Access Incorrect registration leads to errors opening Pearl and using the Guidestar Charity Check and egrant Import web services. The steps listed need to be taken on each individual workstation. Rename incorrect library file installed by Office UAC should still be off 2. Do a search on the C:\ drive for "MSSOAP30.dll" 3. Find the MSSOAP30.dll file in the OFFICE14 folder. The exact path will vary based on operating system. (In Windows Vista it looks like this: C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\office14\mssoap30.dll) 4. Rename this file to MSSOAP30_14.dll Install Access 2007 Runtime 5. Download the most current Access 2007 Runtime from Microsoft and save to the Pearl\System folder 6. Install AccessRuntime.exe from the file you downloaded Correct the MSSOAP30.dll reference in Pearl 7. Open Access 2010 from the Start or Programs menu (Do not click on the Pearl shortcut.) 8. You will see a Microsoft Office xxxxx 2010 message. Windows will configure Microsoft Office xxxx 2010: 9. Open Pearl in Access The database should indicate it has found the MSSOAP30.dll reference 11. After this, Pearl Navigator should open and Pearl should function normally 12. If applicable, test GuideStar Charity Check or egrant Import web service(s) 13. Close Pearl 7 P a g e

8 SET CODE REFERENCES IN PEARL 1. Open Pearl exclusively you must be the only person in the Pearl Database to make these changes. 2. Press Ctrl+G to open the code window. 3. In the Tools menu, select References. 4. Set references to include only (and in this order use Priority arrows to change order) Visual Basic for Applications. Access 2003 Users: Microsoft Access 11.0 Object Library. Access 2007 Users: Microsoft Access 12.0 Object Library. Access 2010 Users: Microsoft Access 14.0 Object Library. Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object Library. Microsoft XML, v3.0. It is very important that XML v3.0 be selected and not version 2.0. You may need to scroll down the list of references to find Microsoft XML, v3.0. Microsoft Office Soap Type Library 3.0. 9 RECONNECT USERS TO THE WORKGROUP FILE (IF APPLICABLE): Pearl users will become disconnected from Pearl.mdw any time they open an Access database and the Pearl.mdw file is not available. Common situations include: Working on an off-line copy of Pearl at home over the weekend. Changing/installing Windows or Office on the computer. Steps to reconnect to workgroup for each user: 1. Press F11 to reveal the Navigation Pane. 2. Scroll down to the Macros 3. Find the macro Pearl WorkgroupAdministrator. Double-click on it. 4. The Workgroup Administrator dialog box will open, click Join 5. Browse and then navigate to \\Pearl\System\Pearl.mdw.Select Pearl.mdw and click Open. 6. Click OK. You should get a message that you have successfully joined the workgroup. 7. Reopen Pearl and log in as SecurityManager so that Pearl can copy necessary files to the workstation. 9 P a g e

10 TEST PEARL FUNCTIONALITY (WINDOWS 7 USERS: UAC IS STILL OFF AT THIS POINT) 1. Open Pearl 2. If applicable, the user should login with their own Pearl username and password (type over SecurityManager) 3. Test your usual tasks, which may include data entry, reports, accounting, etc. 4. If you have any difficulties with Pearl, please reference the additional information on the remaining pages of this document. 5. FOR WINDOWS 7 USERS ONLY TURN UAC ON (WINDOWS VISTA USERS CONTINUE TO NEXT SECTION) The last step for you is to turn the UAC (User Account Control) setting back on. It is EXTREMELY important that you remember to turn this back on as soon as you have completed the rest of the steps described in this document. To turn on this control: 1. Click on the Start button in the lower left corner of the start bar on your computer: 2. In the Search box, type User Account; You should see a list display that looks something like the screen example below. 3. Pick the Change User Account Control Settings option 4. Slide the Notify button from the Never Notify position back up to the mid-position (Notify me Only when Programs try to Make changes to my computer). Click the OK button. 10 P a g e

11 5. Reboot your computer. TEST PEARL FUNCTIONALITY WITH UAC ON 1. Open Pearl 2. If applicable, the user should login with their own Pearl username and password 3. Test your usual tasks, which may include data entry, reports, accounting, etc. 4.
