1 Using Windows 7 with Select2Perform NOTE: If your test session does not use a simulation player, then you do not need to follow these instructions. If you use Windows 7 and take a test that contains a simulation, one of two things may happen: The system may repeatedly ask you to install the Authorware simulation player. When entering a test, you may see a Made with Macromedia symbol instead of the test simulation page. Refer to one of the three methods listed below to solve this issue. Method One: Change the properties of the Internet Explorer Shortcut so it runs the program as the administrator 1. Click the Windows Start button > All Programs > then right-click on Internet Explorer and then click Properties in the menu (if you see Internet Explorer 64- bit, do NOT right-click on that one). 2 2. Under the Shortcut menu click the Advanced button. 3. Place a check in the Run as Administrator check box. Click OK and then the next OK. Page 2

3 4. Click Start > All Programs > Internet Explorer (to open the special Internet Explorer you just modified). Use that Internet Explorer to open your to click the link in it, or you can copy and paste a link into the top of that Internet Explorer. As your enter the testing site, watch out for any yellow Microsoft Information bars that might appear at the top or bottom of one the web pages as you enter your test. One or two of these bars may appear as you get closer to starting your test. Your computer may make a sound when these bars appear. Click any yellow bars that appear and tell them to Install or Run the ActiveX item it wants to install for all web sites or all users. If this is not done, your test will not function properly. Later, when you reboot, this administrator functionality will no longer be active. Method Two: Turn off Windows 7 User Account Control (UAC) for the testing user account This is the mechanism in Windows 7 that asks your permission to perform each task. Turning this feature off might potentially make your system less secure, but you will no longer receive messages asking for permission each time you begin a task. When you have finished your test, this feature can be reset back to the way it was set originally. Before beginning this method, write down the session id or username and password displayed/used in Select2perform you will need it to re-enter your test session later since this process requires a PC reboot. 4 1. From the main Desktop of Windows 7, click the Start button. Type MSCONFIG and press Enter. 2. The following displays: 3. Select the Tools tab at the top right. 4. Scroll down and select Change User Account Control settings. Page 4

5 5. Click the Launch button. The following displays: 6. Move the slider down to Never Notify. Page 5

6 7. Click OK, the Start button, and then restart the PC. Launch your browser and re-enter your session using your session id at select2perform.com. If you click on a job link, you can use the username and password you were originally supplied to log in. If security is a concern, once your test is complete you can use the same procedure to enable UAC and turn the Windows 7 User Account Control (UAC) back on. Method Three: Running Internet Explorer as an Administrator If you received an from a test administrator or select2perform.com, write down the session ID and/or link that was ed to you. Click Start > [All] Programs, and then Page 6

7 right-click Internet Explorer (if you see an Internet Explorer 64-bit, do NOT right-click on that one). Select Run as administrator. Type in the Address box, enter your session ID in the Session Log In field at the bottom, and then click the Log In button. If you received a link, navigate to the link again to continue. Page 7
