Corrected with software V If you cannot locate the model vehicle you are working on, please be sure that you have installed the latest version of C-3 Diagnostic Software. Go to ASIST TM Synchronizer, View Settings / Details and click the Software Update Utility for installation. To check the version of your software, Open the Consult III software, click on SUB mode. On the left hand side of the screen you will see an icon named version display. Click on this icon. 8/5/2010 2/11

3 Tips & Troubleshooting 1. Locating TSBs 1.1. TSB Search screens have been enhanced to provide flexibility in searching Technical Service Bulletins using different criteria such as VIN, Model Series, Section and Model Year and keywords. Refer to the winter 09/10 Tech Talk for more details. 1.2 The Latest TSBs icon still provides a list of the most recently released TSBs. This icon also is your access point to the Consult/ASIST TM newsletter and ASIST TM subscription information. 8/5/2010 3/11

4 Consult III - Automatic CAN type selection. Please note; for this feature to operate, an internet connection is required. The Consult III Toolbar now contains an SIS (Spec Information System) icon. This icon replaced the wireless signal strength indicator. While the C-III is booting up, it collects the VIN from vehicles that contain a VIN in the ECM (all models beginning with 2005 MY). After the Consult III software collects the VIN from the vehicle, the software automatically connects to a Nissan website and obtains the associated model code. This code is stored in a buffer, waiting on you to paste it in the SIS code field. Please note, for this feature to operate, an internet connection is required. When you select Diagnosis, on vehicles with CAN Type selection capability, the C-III will begin performing CAN diagnosis. When the CAN call is completed, the CAN Type selection screen will appear. Move your curser/mouse pointer to the SIS code data entry field and left click your mouse. Then click on the SIS icon located on the Consult III Toolbar. The applicable SIS code will be pasted into the data entry field. Click on the Search icon and the software will automatically highlight to CAN Type. Just click on the Next icon and you are on your way. Look for more details in the upcoming edition of Tech Talk. 8/5/2010 4/11

5 Consult-III How to display ICON TEXT information! If you want to view the text description of the icons in the CONSULT-III, please follow this procedure: 1) Click on SUB icon on your CONSULT-III: 2) Click on BALOON HELP icon on your CONSULT-III: 8/5/2010 5/11

6 3) Select ON to view text display on icons (follow the prompt): 4) Text displays are now active. If you reboot your C-III, you need to perform this procedure again to have text displays ON. 8/5/2010 6/11

7 Consult-III - LANGUAGE SETTING information! If you need to modify your language settings on CONSULT-III applications, please follow this procedure: 1) Click on SUB icon and then select SETTING icon on your CONSULT-III: 2) Click on LANGUAGE SETTING option: 8/5/2010 7/11

8 3) Select desired LANGUAGE (e.g.: Spanish) and then click on Change: 4) Automated prompt will confirm, whether you want to change the displayed language 8/5/2010 8/11

9 5) If you select Yes, the language setting will be displayed on modified language and you can add icon text using the same CONSULT-III ICON TEXT Instructions. ASIST TM and Consult III To use the CONSULT III interactively with ASIST TM, first open ASIST TM, then click on CONSULT Utilities, then click on CONSULT III. CONSULT III will open and you will see a task bar at the top, left/center of the screen. This can be used to toggle between CONSULT and ASIST TM. Do not forget to print your Consult III diagnostic records for warranty claim verification. You will need to install a print driver from your printer into your Toughbook. Does the incident have an associated TSB? When the Consult III identifies a DTC that has a related TSB, you will be notified that a TSB exists. This will be indicated by flashing green lights on ASIST TM button, shown below. Flashing Green Light indicates a related TSB 8/5/2010 9/11

10 Consult III- Print the Consult-III Operation Manual, please use the Print Feature on SITEMAP (found on the top left of the screen) to print the complete manual as desired. Selecting this print feature will allow the complete section to be printed. Please visit SITEMAP for printing options Please use this Print Feature for your print needs Reminder: Do not turn on Microsoft Automatic Updates or apply Window Updates to your C-III units. MS Windows Automatic Updates must stay turned off. The CONSULT-III (3) application is validated with the Windows version it came with. If you add any Windows updates, your CONSULT-III application may not work correctly. To turn automatic updates off follow these steps: o Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then press ENTER. o Click the Automatic Updates tab, and then click to select Turn off Automatic Updates. o Click OK. If you have a pop-up blocker turned ON on C-III machines in IE (Internet Explorer), you will not be able to view the C-III operation manual. When it is installed, the manual will launch, run the command prompt screen, and then shut down. To troubleshoot this issue, you need to disable the pop-up blocker in order to view the manual. 8/5/ /11

11 McAfee anti-virus for your Consult-III McAfee anti-virus and online protection software package is the only package Nissan North America has tested and approved for operation on the Consult III.
