Enter this password when prompted by the software. To begin installation, you must first register your software. 1. Register your software on A registration will be sent in approximately 24 hours. You can still generate a license key while the registration is being confirmed. Once your registration is validated, you will have access to all resources on including patches and drivers. 1

2 2. Once registered, click on the Generate Key tab to download your software license key. The license key must be downloaded as a compressed file. Safari automatically unzips files so the key won t work. You must change the settings in Safari to download as compressed. The license key must always be saved on the computer for the dongle to work. Do not move the location of the license key once loaded into the software. 3. Insert the flash drive that came with your dongle into your computer. 4. Install Rolandprintstudio software from the flash drive. Once your registration is validated, you can check for software updates on For detailed instructions on how to update your software, consult the Rolandprintstudio User s Manual. 2

3 5. Insert the Rolandprintstudio dongle into the USB port of your computer. 6. Launch Rolandprintstudio RIP software. 7. In the Application Bar go to "Settings > Key Manager". 8. Set Key type to Hardware Dongle. Browse to find the license key using the Import keys from options. 9. Click "Yes" to save the license key. When prompted to enter the software password, type roland to save your changes. 3

4 10. Restart Rolandprintstudio software. Install Printer Drivers Drivers are available for download at 1. Select the Drivers tab and choose the driver you want to install onto your Rolandprintstudio software. 4

5 2. Download the proper version that matches your RIP and printer. 3. The driver will download as a XXXX.calpatch file. The file must be downloaded as a compressed file for it to be installed. 4. Save the XXXX.calpatch file to your computer s desktop. 5. Before you proceed, make sure Rolandprintstudio is closed. Then continue by double-clicking on the XXXX.calpatch file. You will be prompted to enter your Mac OS administration password. Once entered, the installer will open. If the installer does not automatically launch, right click on the XXXX.calpatch file and select Open with Printstudio Patch. 5

6 6. Follow the prompts on the screen until the installation is complete. 7. Once the installation is finished, simply restart Rolandprintstudio software, and your driver will be available and automatically added to the application tab. For more detailed information, consult the Rolandprintstudio User s Manual. Configure Printer Drivers Before you can send a print, you must configure the IP address of your printer(s). 1. Obtain the IP address from the printer. Be sure to exit out of menu mode on the printer after you obtain the IP address. 2. Connect to printer. a. Hardwire Connection i. Connect the printer to your Mac using an Ethernet connection. ii. On the Mac Open Network Preferences by clicking the wifi icon in the toolbar or by clicking on the Apple icon in the toolbar and selecting System Preferences > Network. iii. Select Ethernet connection. Note: If using a thunderbolt connection, select the thunderbolt connection. iv. Change Configure ipv4 from DHCP to Manually. v. Enter an IP address that is on the same network as the printer. vi. Enter the same submask as the printer. vii. Leave router field blank. viii. Apply changes. b. Network Connection i. Obtain the IP address from the printer. Note: Be sure to exit out of the menu mode on the printer once you obtain the IP address. ii. Connect your Mac to the same network as the printer. 3. On your Mac launch Rolandprintstudio software. 6

7 4. In the Application Bar go to the Settings tab. 5. Click on Printer Settings. Do not change the Host field highlighted in red below. Step #7 explains where to enter the IP address of your printer. 6. From the Servers administration window, select your printer then click on Configure 7. The printer configuration window opens. Set the following fields. a. Connection = Select LP as the connection type b. Host/IP address = Enter the IP address of the printer Remove the zeros in the IP address that appear before a digit. For example: should be entered as When troubleshooting a connection issue, RawIP may also be selected as a connection type for both hardwire and network connections. 7

8 8. Click Proceed. You will be prompted to enter the software password roland to save your changes. 9. Type the printer s IP address into a web browser. A webpage will load if you are connected to the printer. For more detailed information, consult the Rolandprintstudio User s Manual. Import Profiles There are profiles available on the Roland Profile Center website for a select number of Roland printers. To import profiles, you must first download and save them to your computer s desktop. North America website: European website: Please note, if there are no profiles available for your printer, you will need to create a custom profile using the Rolandprintstudio software. Please consult the Media Explorer Manual for instructions on how to create custom profiles in the RIP software. 8

9 1. Launch Rolandprintstudio RIP software. 2. In the Application Bar open the Media Explorer module by clicking on the ME icon. 3. Select the printer icon and click "Next". 4. Select the printer that matches the profiles being imported. Click Next. 5. Click "Install Patch". 6. The file selection window will appear. Browse to the XXXX.calpatch profile you want to import and click "Load". 9

10 7. A new pop-up opens displaying the list of the profiles contained in the patch. Select the profile you want to install then click on Install selection or click directly on Install all. 8. You will be prompted for the Rolandprintstudio password, enter roland. 9. You will receive a message stating the patch was successfully created. Click OK. Repeat steps 6 through 9 to install any remaining profiles on your computer. 10. When finished installing media profiles you can click Quit to exit Media Explorer. For more detailed information, consult the Rolandprintstudio User s Manual. Cutter Driver Installation (Optional) The following section is for users with Roland printer/cutters. Follow the instructions below to set up the cutter module in Rolandprintstudio so you can print then cut using your Roland printer/cutter. 1. In the Application Bar click the Settings tab and launch the Preferences module. 10

11 2. On the right side of the Software Configuration window click on New. 3. In the New Application window enter the following fields and then click Configure. a. Type = Select Cutter from the dropdown. b. Name = Assign a name to the cutter. No spaces allowed. Example: VGCutter. c. Executable = This field will autofill. 11

12 4. In the Cutters Configuration window click on New. 5. In the Cutter Parameters window enter the following fields and click OK to save. a. Name = Name your cutter module. b. Model = Select the cutter model that corresponds with your Roland printer/cutter. i. Select Roland SP model for all supported Roland printer/cutters. c. Queue = Enter a file path for the cut files. d. Hostname = Leave blank. You will enter your printer s IP address in Step #11. 12

13 6. In the Cutters Configuration window click OK to save the information. 7. In the New Application window make sure the cutter you just created appears in the Cutter field. Then click OK to save the new cutter module. 13

14 8. You will now see the cutter module you just created in Software Configuration window under the Application Bar. Click Restart to save your configuration. 9. Click Yes to restart the application immediately if prompted. 10. Your new cutter module will now appear in the Application Bar. Next click on the newly created cutter module to launch Visual Cut. 14

15 11. The Visual Cut window opens. Set the following fields. a. Type = See options below. i. Select RawIP for network connection. ii. Select USB for hardwire connection. b. Host = Enter the IP address of the printer. c. Port = Leave blank. 12. Once the status changes from Connecting to Connected the configuration process is complete.
