3 Upgrading Access FactoryMaster. Upgrading FactoryMaster is a multi-part process: 1. Upgrade Play. You can upgrade Play with users in the Live System. All users need to out of the Play System. a) Install upgrade files to Play System. During this process you will be prompted to run Copy-Live-To- Play so that the upgrade is tested on the latest copy of your Live Database. b) Run Play System to run conversion. c) Review release notes. d) Test Critical business processes in Play System. This should include testing any external reports e.g. Crystal Reports and Reporting Services reports to endure they work correctly with the new database structure. When you have completed testing in the Play System, you can upgrade the Live System. 2. Upgrade Live. All users, including any data capture, must be out of the Live System to upgrade Live. a) Install upgrade files to Live System. You will be prompted to run an SQL backup. b) Run Live System to run the conversion to upgrade databases. Copyright 2014 Access UK Ltd All rights reserved Page 1

4 Part 1: Upgrade the Play System. Download, save and unzip the upgrade file. Download and unzip the upgrade file: e.g. aa.bb.cc.zip (where aa.bb = version Number and cc = sub-release). The link will have been sent to you along with the password required to unlock the installer. Install Upgrade Files to Play System. On the FactoryMaster Server. Run the upgrade file aa.bb.cc.exe Click Yes to the UAC (User Account Control) prompt. Click Next Copyright 2014 Access UK Ltd All rights reserved Page 2

5 Enter the password that was sent to you for this version and click Next. Select the FactoryMaster installation you want to upgrade and click Next. There will generally only be one installation of FactoryMaster on your site. Copyright 2014 Access UK Ltd All rights reserved Page 3

6 The Play System will be automatically selected. If for some reason, the Play System can t be upgraded, the reason will be displayed. Please see Appendix A: Troubleshooting blocked upgrades on page25 for more details. Click Next. If there are any open network files or users still logged in, please see Appendix B: Users still in system or open files detected. on page 30. At the end of the conversion, you will be prompted to send an upgrade notification to FactoryMaster support to inform them of the upgrade to keep the records up to date. 18 Now that the Play System has been successfully upgraded, the Live System will be automatically selected. If for some reason, the Live System can t be upgraded, the reason will be displayed. Please see Appendix A: Troubleshooting blocked upgrades on page 25 for more details. Click Next. If there are any open network files or users still logged in, please see Appendix B: Users still in system or open files detected on page 30. After a successful backup, the Next button is enabled. Click Next.

Wait for the files to copy. Click Finish.

27 Appendix A: Troubleshooting blocked upgrades. Please install v11 License before upgrading FactoryMaster v11 requires a different run-time license to v10. You should have been sent a download link and instructions to apply the v11 license to your FactoryMaster installation. Please install the v11 license and re-run the upgrade. Please upgrade Play System to aa.bb.cc first You must upgrade the Play System before you can upgrade the Live System. Please upgrade the Play System first. Please run the Play System and convert the data. If there is an error that means the Play System cannot successfully upgrade, please contact support to resolve the error in the Play System before trying to upgrade the Live System. Live Database below minimum version of In order to upgrade to v11, your Live System must be at or later. Please upgrade Live System to before trying to apply v11 upgrade. If a different version number is listed as the minimum version, you will need to upgrade both Live and Play to this version first before applying this upgrade. 29 Live (or Play) Database is already at a later version This means that the database version of your FactoryMaster is already at a later version than you are currently trying to install. In this example, an upgrade is trying to be applied to a FactoryMaster installation that has already been converted to Cancel the upgrade. You will need to apply an upgrade that is the same version or later. You must select either Live or Play or both to continue If you are trying to apply a program file version that is the same sub-release version or earlier than the files that are already installed, the Live and/or Play systems are not automatically selected. 30 If you need to either re-apply the same version of the program files or an earlier sub-release, you will need to manually tick Live and/or Play to install the files. Program files at vnot Installed This message only appears if the Live and/or Play program files directory is damaged or missing. Manually tick the Not installed system to replace the missing/damaged installation. Cannot find SQL Server. If you see this message then either the SQL Server (FMAST) service isn t running, the upgrader cannot connect to the database, or the FactoryMaster installation isn t configured correctly. Appendix B: Users still in system or open files detected. The FactoryMaster upgrade will fail if the files it is trying to replace are already in use.

32 Appendix B: Users still in system or open files detected. The FactoryMaster upgrade will fail if the files it is trying to replace are already in use. The upgrader will try to ensure the files and directories that are going to be replaced don t have file locks open. There are still users logged in to the Live/Play System= If there is a user still running the FactoryMaster system you are trying to upgrade, you will see one of the following messages. If there is a == There are still users logged in to the Live/Play System == banner at the top of the screen, there are one or more users running still FactoryMaster. If this is a user connected via the network share, their Windows Username and the files that are open are listed. The upgrader will only list files that need to be closed to upgrade the Live and/or Play System (depending upon what was selected earlier). To identify the Windows User/PC that has the files open, click on the Shared Folders Management button. Click Yes to open the Shared Folders Management Tool. Click on the Open Files on the tree structure on the left of the screen. The open network files are listed on the right of the screen. Copyright 2014 Access UK Ltd All rights reserved Page 30

33 Important Notes: The Shared Folder Management Tool should only be used to identify the Windows user and PC that is still running FactoryMaster. The FactoryMaster Client must be closed from the PC end. The Shared Folders tool will list all open network files on the server, not just the files that will block the upgrade. Please refer to the screen on the upgrader for the files you need to clear. In this example, we are trying to upgrade the Play system but a Windows user Steve.Coller has files open in the both the Live and Play Systems. To identify the PC that Steve.Coller is running FactoryMaster from, click on the Sessions item on the tree structure on the left. In this example Steve.Coller is running FactoryMaster from a PC called ACCESS-CMD1KZ1. You should ensure the user logs out of the system you are trying to upgrade. In the Upgrader, click the Refresh button.

35 Once all of the users file locks have been released on the system you are trying to upgrade, the Next button will be available and you can continue with the upgrade. If the user insists that FactoryMaster isn t running on their PC, check their PC s Task Manager Processes list for MgXPARunTime.exe (v11) or UniRTE.exe (v10). Sometimes, after a crash, the runtime engine is still running in the processes list even though there isn t anything displayed on the screen. Close the process and refresh the upgrader s open file list. If the user still has files listed in the upgrader and there are no runtime engines listed, try rebooting the user s PC. If, after a reboot of the user s PC, the files are still listed in the installer and Shared Folders management, you can safely close the open file(s) for that user only. This process will need to be repeated for all user that are listed in the upgrader. Warning! If you just close open files without ensuring the runtime engine isn t running on the client PC, there is a chance that the rest of the upgrade will fail as the user s runtime engine tries to reconnect to the files it thinks it should have open. There are still users logged in to the Live/Play System (with no files listed) If FactoryMaster is being run from a local drive on the server, there may not be any open files listed but there are still users logged in. In this case, you will need to check the processes list on the server for MgXPARuntime.exe (v11) and/or UniRTE.exe (v10) and identify the user running FactoryMaster and ask them to exit. Error: Cannot Delete the Backup Directory The installer is trying to remove the old zrollback directory from the previous upgrade. There is a file or directory locked in the zrollback folder.

36 Appendix C: Troubleshooting File Copy Errors. In the unlikely event of the upgrade being unable to gain exclusive access to the files and folders it needs to delete/move/create, it will try to roll-back the installation to before you started. Error: Cannot Delete the Backup Directory The installer is trying to remove the old zrollback directory from the previous upgrade. There is a file or directory locked in the zrollback folder. Please try to delete the zrollback folder (exact path will be specified in your error message) and retry the upgrade. Error: Cannot Rename???? Directory If you see this sort of message, there is something locking the directory specified in the error message. As there were no open files from across the network (these would have been listed in the open files list earlier in the upgrader), this is probably a My Computer/explorer window or command prompt pointing to the specified directory, or an open file or application on the server. You should check to see if there are any My Computer or command prompts pointing to the specified folder and close them before running the upgrade again When you click Ok, the installer will try to automatically roll back the installation to the state it was in before the upgrade ran. 37 You should see a Roll Back Complete message. You can view a log of the upgrade attempt. If for some reason the roll back fails, the files in the zrollback folder need to be manually moved back up to the FactoryMaster directory (e.g. FMAST11).
