4 1 WatchManager Control Centre Guide 1 Control Centre Guide The WatchManager Control Centre is exactly what the name implies, a Control Centre which facilitates the access and configuration of the various components that make up the WatchManager Suite of Programs, all in one easy to use place. From the Control Centre, you can setup which components you want to activate, configure User Access Control, configure operational settings for your PC and enable automatic launching of the various WatchManager components. In addition, the Control Centre has built recovery functions which, in event of any malfunction, will attempt to repair any damaged files and correct common problems you may encounter running a computer system on a 24 hour basis. 5 This Computer Panel 2 2 This Computer Panel It reflects Workstation Number which is important when using WatchManager in a networked environment as well as the Data Folder/Path where your Client and other data is located. See User Screen Settings for information on the options and how to adjust them. 3 Program Status Panel The Program Status Panel contains a list of the various Program Components in the WatchManager system. Each item contains the name of the WatchManager component, followed by the current status of that component and lastly, a launch or "RUN" button as well as buttons to SHOW and CLOSE each program.

6 3 WatchManager Control Centre Guide Program Status description Inactive Active Disabled - Component/Program not running - Component/Program currently running - Component disabled/inaccessible For details on configuring program access, see Control Centre Settings 4 License Details Panel The license details panel reflects the current License information recorded in the WatchManager system and includes the name of the Company the system is licensed to and the various options/modules that are licensed.

7 License Details Panel 4 5 Auto Loader The WatchManager Program Auto Loader is an integral part of the Control Centre program. When you start the Control Centre, the Auto Loader automatically appears and will Launch/Run all the WatchManager programs that have been selected as Auto Run.

8 5 WatchManager Control Centre Guide The Auto Loader has a built in countdown timer which will then run the programs when this timer has expired. You can choose to bypass the timer in two ways: 1. Press the ENTER key which will cause the programs to run immediately, or; 2. Press the ESC key which will cause the Auto Loader to cancel and you will then see the main Control Centre Screen. Once on the Main Screen, you have the option to Launch/Run the various programs by selecting the buttons associated with each component. 6 Repair Function The Repair Utility pretty much does what it says, repairs and fixes any problems that can be fixed from a program perspective.

9 Repair Function 6 With any computer system that operates 24 hours a day, things are bound to go wrong somewhere along the line and when they do, you want to be able to rectify the problem as quickly as possible The repair function is appropriate in the event of power failures, unstable PC hardware and unexpected system resets. Obviously, this function cannot repair faulty equipment or data that has been entered incorrectly. 7 Logging On To make any changes to settings or options, you need to Log On first. Only an Authorised User can make changes and edit setings in the Control Centre. NOTE: You do NOT have to Log On to Run WatchManager components that have been enabled. Clicking on the Log On menu option or pressing Alt L will display a list of Authorised Users. This list is read from the main WatchManager program and contains all the Users that have been setup to access the main system. For information on modifying this list and changing User Security Settings, see the Authorised User section. Demo Use When you first install WatchManager, you can use the "Graham Smith". There is no password so leave this blank when you log in.

10 7 WatchManager Control Centre Guide 7.1 Authorised Users You control the list of Authorised users that may log onto your WatchManager system. Each user that you create on this list has his/her own individual password and you can also their security access levels. To access the User update section, you must firstly Log into the Control Centre and you must also have access rights set for this option. Once you have logged on, you must choose the SETUP Menu option and the choose Authorised Users from this sub-menu. Once in the User update list, you can Add, Change or Delete users as you desire. The user setup screen is depicted below: User Code A unique 3 letter code which identifies the User. This code can be letters or numbers. Name The user's name Password The user's password Security Here you can choose a Security Template to link to this user which will configure this user for System Access Auto Log Off Timer Inactivity countdown timer, when expired will automatically log the user out. A setting of 0 disables Auto Log Off

11 Logging On User Security Template Using the Template facility, you can setup predefined Security Access Setting for all the options available in the WatchManager system. Edit Security Template Editing a Security Template allows you to configure access to the various parts of the WatchManager system.

12 9 WatchManager Control Centre Guide When you get to setting up your users, you can then simply choose one of your predefined Security Templates and this will then be applied to the individual user's security settings. 8 Configuration settings 8.1 Auto Load Tab The Auto Load Tab contains settings which control the Automatic loading of selected programs in the WatchManager System.

13 Configuration settings 10 Program Folder This setting tells the Control Centre where to look for the WatchManager Suite of programs. Default is C:\WMAN3 If you are not sure, DO NOT CHANGE THIS! Backup Folder This setting tells the Control Centre where to look for your data files in the event that you need to run the Repair functions. Default is C:\WM3BAK. If you are not sure, DO NOT CHANGE THIS! Auto Load Enabled This setting when checked, enables the automatic loading of the enabled programs after the specified timeout. Auto Load Timer The auto load timer setting sets the countdown timer for the Program Auto Loader. You can set this to any value you like, however, the lowest setting is 3 seconds. 8.2 Program Options Tab This Tab Sheet allows you to Enable the various Program Components in the WatchManager System as well as select them for Automatic loading at startup. This section contains a series of checkboxes, when checked, enables the related program on this PC. In addition, the associated Auto checkbox enables the Auto Load function for this program.

14 11 WatchManager Control Centre Guide 8.3 Local PC Settings This screen controls the runtime, operational settings of the main WatchManager program. Normally, these would be set when you first install your WatchManager system.

15 Configuration settings 12 Once you have logged on, you can access this option to configure this workstation WatchManager Tab This screen controls the runtime, operational settings of the main WatchManager program. Normally, these would be set when you first install your WatchManager system. The User Screen Settings has three (3) sheets or Tabs, each containing different options. Each Tab is described in more detail below. General Tab The General Tab contains the following options: Workstation No Max Actions Steps Enable Modem Dial This specifies the Work Station number for the WatchManager Main program. In a single user system, this is always 1. In a network system, each screen that operates the WatchManager system has to have a unique workstation number. When processing an Alarm in WatchManager, your operator is presented with a series of Actions to follow. This setting controls the maximum number of steps that can be displayed in the Action Step Window. You need only adjust this value under extraordinary circumstances. Check this option to enable automatic Phone number dialing on this PC. For this function to operate correctly, you must have a Modem connected to the system and it must be correctly configured in the FEP.

16 13 WatchManager Control Centre Guide Timesync On New Alarm Flashing Allow Password Change Multiple Stacks Cancel Sounder Windows Printing Datafile Path Checking this box will cause the system to Synchronise the time of this PC with Windows time. Checking this box will cause all new Alarms to flash when they first appear on the Operator Action screen in the main WatchManager program. Enabling this option will allow individual users to change their own passwords each time they log onto main WatchManager program WatchManager has the facilty to route different Alarms to different operator action screens based on various criteria. Check this box if you want this option enabled on this PC. This option will enable or disable the keyboard to cancel/silence the Alarm Sounder which is activated when Alarms are received into the system. This option enables the system to use an add-on program called DOSPRN which facilitates the printing to any Windows printer. For more information on DOSPRN, visit The Datafile Path or Folder points the WatchManager program at your live datafiles. In most installations, the default setting is C:\WMAN3 In a network system, this setting will point at your File Server PC. Miscellaneous Tab The miscellaneous Tab contains numerous options which are for Special Use ONLY! 17 Configuration settings System Registration Every Watchmanager installation has to be registered. When you first install a WatchManager System or Upgrade an existing installation, you will have 14 days in which to register the system. The registration process involves filling in your company details under the Registration Info page and ing this or faxing these details to license@watchmanager.co.za

18 15 WatchManager Control Centre Guide Once you have filled in your details and sent them to G Smith & Associates, you will receive your system registration codes which you will then enter under the License Setup Page as shown below:

19 Configuration settings 16 9 New WatchManager Installation 9.1 Point to WatchManager When you start the Control Centre, the first thing it does is checks the state of your WatchManager Installation, reads what components are installed, the Version numbers etc. If it fails to detect WatchManager on your PC, the Control Centre will then switch to Setup Mode and the first question it needs to know is: Do you perhaps have WatchManager on another Hard Drive in this PC? An example of this situation might be that you have your drive C: configured as a startup drive on this machine and in addition you have a drive D: where you install all your programs and keep your data. This option gives you the opportunity to tell the SETUP where your WatchManager system is installed. NOTE: Under normal circumstances, you will leave this unchanged and simply press the OK button. Do not change this unless you know what you are doing!

20 17 WatchManager Control Centre Guide 9.2 The Setup Wizard Built into the Control Centre is an Setup Wizard utility which makes the process of Installing the WatchManager software fairly easy to accomplish. The Setup Wizard opens with a Welcome Screen and when you click the NEXT button, you will see the License Agreement. Clicking the NEXT button, you will arrive at the WatchManager Installation Options screen of the Wizard:

21 New WatchManager Installation 18 The options on this screen are: Program Folder Choose the Installation Folder for the program files. The default is C:\WMAN3. Do not change this unless you know what you are doing! Data Folder Choose the Installation Folder for the data files. The default is C:\WMAN3. Do not change this unless you know what you are doing! WatchManager Program Files Check this box to install the Program Files that make up the WatchManager Suite of programs Manual and other Docs Check this box to install the supporting documentation. Changes to CONFIG.SYS Create Shotcuts Check this box to make required changes to your PC's system settings. Required for new installation. Check this box to create program shortcuts on your PC's desktop and Start Menu. Once you have selected the items you want to update, the Setup Wizard will then process the selections, copying and extracting the required recompressed files.

22 19 WatchManager Control Centre Guide 10 Upgrading WatchManager When it comes to upgrading an existing WatchManager system, following a few easy steps will make for smooth, trouble free conversion. IMPORTANT: Make a note of your current version number. You can do this by pressing the "V" key while the Alarm processing Stack is on the screen. Step 1 - Backup Before you do anything, make sure you have adequate backup's of your existing system. Backup your PROGRAMS and DATA files. The easiest way to do this is to make full copy of your existing program folder viz. WMAN3 You can make a copy on the current Hard Drive or you can copy it to another hard drive if you are on a network. Step 2 - Prepare your system If you are upgrading WatchManager onto your existing computer hardware, then proceed to STEP 3 If you are upgrading WatchManager onto NEW computer hardware, then you need to copy your old WatchManager data onto your new PC. You can do this in a number of ways: Install your old hard drive into your new PC as a Slave and then copy the WMAN3 folder from the old hard drive onto the new hard drive. If you are able to connect your old PC via a network cable to your new PC, simply copy the WMAN3 folder from your old PC to the new PC across the network. You can also use a CD to transfer your old system across to your new PC, BUT BE CAREFUL!!! When you copy data off a CD onto your PC, all the files are set to READ ONLY, so you must first go thru all the files and Clear the Read Only setting. You can use Windows Explorer to for this or you can use the following command from a DOS prompt, in the WMAN3 folder: ATTRIB -r *.* Step 3 - Install new Program Copy the new WatchManager Installer program onto your new PC. You can copy this file anywhere, typically into a temporary folder. If you haven't downloaded this file yet, you can get it from the WatchManager website at Once you have the Installer on your PC, and simply run it. The Installer will detect your old version of WatchManager and go into the upgrade process as described in the following sections.

23 Upgrading WatchManager 20 Last but not least... Once the Installer and upgrade program has completed, close all programs and restart your PC. Once you have restarted, you can go through the program settings for your receivers Upgrade - Auto Detect When you start the Control Centre, it scans your PC for an installed copy of the main WatchManager system. If it finds an installed copy, it will attempt to compare the version details of the installed WatchManager to the latest version available. If it finds that these versions a different, you will see the following popup screen which gives you the option to perform an upgrade. You can choose to perform the upgrade or you can choose to ignore this option by making selecting either "NO, I will decide later" or "YES, upgrade now". If you choose the "NO, I will decide later" option, you can still perform upgrades manually via the Control Centre Menu at any stage you desire. See Manual Upgrade in the next section. 25 Upgrading WatchManager 22 Once you have selected the items you want to update, the Setup Wizard will then process the selections, copying and extracting the required compressed files Upgrade - Database Patch The last step in the upgrade process requires you to enter your current version number in the Database Patch screen as shown below. Once you have entered your version number, select the DO IT option and the Database Patch will read your old database into the new version database Upgrade - Manual Option The perform a manual upgrade of your WatchManager system using the Control Centre, you must first log in as an Authorised User. Once logged in, choose the SETUP menu item and then choose the Update Software submenu item. This will start the WatchManager Installer wizard. Following the easy to understand prompts and

26 23 WatchManager Control Centre Guide options, you can upgrade your system with relative ease. NOTE: The Installer Wizard will perform a backup of your current system to the C:\WM3BAK folder before applying any new software updates or changes.
