I installed the fxp client on my local workstation, yet when I connect to the server I still don t see any printers. Why is this? Is there a plug-in available for my old Citrix 4.x ICA Clients? The ICA Plug-in installation defaults to %ProgramFiles%\Citrix\ICA Client, but my users have it in a different location, what do I do? 3 General What is the difference between fxp and 1.x? When a user logs in, ScrewDrivers fxp automatically queries the properties of your local client printer and adds a ScrewDrivers-based printer to the server. There is no longer a ScrewDrivers printer that everyone sees and prints to. Instead, each user has their own set of printers, which only they have the security-level to access and print to. When a user prints, there is now one print dialog that has to be filled out on the server. No second (client-side) print dialog pops up! In addition, there is no longer an SDServer.exe or SDClient.exe running all the time on your server and client workstation. Instead, the client consists of a plug-in for your ICA or RDP client, and a COM component for compression and encryption. The server consists of a printer driver, and an executable called SDfxp.exe that is launched on demand. Do fxp and 1.x work side by side? ScrewDrivers fxp and ScrewDrivers 1.x will work side by side on the same server and client workstation. This allows easier migration, among other things. Where is my ScrewDrivers printer? The ScrewDrivers printer only exists in 1.x versions. ScrewDriver fxp creates printer(s) that have the same name as your local client printer, with a modifier at the end of the name consisting of the client s machine name and session number. 4 Functionality Do I need to use Add/Remove programs or change user /install when installing the ScrewDrivers fxp server? No. I installed the fxp client on my local workstation, yet when I connect to the server I still don t see any printers. Why is this? First make sure you have printers installed on your local machine, and that a default printer is set. Do you get any error messages from ScrewDrivers when you log in to the server? Is ScrewDrivers Server fxp installed? Try installing the latest driver for your printer on your client workstation If you had the ICA or RDP client open during the ScrewDrivers client install, then the plug-in has not yet loaded. Restart your session. If you still get the error, try restarting your machine and/or reinstalling the client while your sessions are all closed. You may also need to upgrade the printer drivers on your local workstation. Sometimes a poor driver will cause the client plug-in to stop functioning, or timeout during the initial connection to the server. If your server is set to only add the default client printer, then try changing your default printer on your client and logging in again. If that printer is added correctly, then you know it is a problem with the other printer driver. Is there a plug-in available for my old Citrix 4.x ICA Clients? If you go to our support page you can find an install for ICA Clients prior to version , and after The ICA Plug-in installation defaults to %ProgramFiles%\Citrix\ICA Client, but my users have it in a different location, what do I do? You can change the installation location during the install by browsing to the correct directory. You will also find an installation on our support page that defaults to the ICAweb32 directory under %PROGRAMFILES%\Citrix. What versions of the ICA Client is the Screwdrivers fxp Client plug-in The ICA plug-in will work with any ICA Client that has a module.ini file (and therefore can accept plug-ins). The full client, web client, and pass-through client are all capable of supporting plug-ins. The Java client is not compatible.

5 What versions of the RDP Client is the Screwdrivers fxp Client plugin The RDP Plug-in will work with the Microsoft Terminal Server Advanced Client, as well as the ActiveX control. See the tricerat Support page for instructions on adding the plugin entry on the ActiveX page (you still need to install the client plug-in on your workstation though!) What security settings do I need to set on my server in order for ScrewDrivers fxp to work correctly? A user that is going to use ScrewDrivers fxp needs the following security access to the server. 1. Registry a. Read/Query access to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print key and it's subkeys b. Full access to HKLM\Software\triCerat\ScrewDrivers Server fxp registry key and subkeys 2. File System a. Full access to WINNT\Temp and to their own temp directory in Documents And Settings b. Full access to the WINNT\System32\Spool\Printers directory (or the directory specified by the registry value DefaultSpoolDirectory located in the HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers registry key. When a printer is automatically created on the server, the User s Logon SID is given security access to it along with the Administrators group and the SYSTEM. Why do my standard users have access to the ScrewDrivers fxp Control Panel applet? I thought that set machine-wide variables that I don t want my users to have control over! By default the control panel applet is accessible by everyone. To restrict access, go to WINNT\System32 and restrict access to the file sdconsole.cpl. By only allowing administrators to have Read Access you can limit who can adjust the system wide ScrewDrivers settings. I log in and see everyone s printers, what s wrong? The Windows 2000 security model allows Administrators to see all printers on the server, even if they cannot print to them. Printers are not being deleted! Help! ScrewDrivers fxp deletes the printers it creates when the user logs off of the server, or when a disconnected session is logged off or reset. The printers will not be deleted if the server unexpectedly crashes, and in that situation you should manually go into the Printers folder and delete any Screwdrivers-created printers.

6 My print job options are not being saved from one print to the next. Also sometimes when I use the page setup dialog, those settings are not showing up when I go to print. Why? This is a known issue in the Win32 spooler with printers that have names longer than 32 characters. A workaround would be to log off, rename your local printer so the name is shorter, and log back in. Remember though that ScrewDrivers adds the client machine name and session number to the printer name, so that could still force the name to be longer than 32 characters!

7 Formatting I m having trouble printing, what s the first thing I should do? Install the latest printer driver on your client workstation. Some of my text is overlapped or formatted incorrectly, why? This is a known issue with Windows 9x-based client workstations, but is not very common. It is due to a backwards-compatibility issue in the EMF spool file format. If it happens to appear in one of your printouts, you can use the Print-As-Image setting in the Extended Options tab of the Screwdrivers printers. This causes the print job to be sent as an image, which improves formatting quality. Note that it may take longer to print, and uses more memory on your server and workstation. When I go to print a PDF I get symbols instead of letters, how can I fix this? This is due to a font being installed on the server but not on the client workstation. You should upgrade to the latest version of Screwdrivers fxp, which automatically embeds the font and temporarily installs them on the client for the print-job to print correctly. When I print I get blank printouts or sometimes mirror images, how can I fix this? This is sometimes due to a PCL5e based printer driver on the client workstation. If possible, install a Postscript-based (PS) driver for your local printer. When I try to print from an application that allows page size and orientation to change within the print job, I only get the settings for the first page. How can I fix this? This is a known issue in the current version of fxp. A fix for per-page devmodes will be included in a future release.
