2 Auxiliary Channel Analyzer Overview The Auxiliary Channel Analyzer (ACA) is a graphical application that can be used to monitor auxiliary channels such as the DDC and CEC buses in the HDMI interface. You can monitor multiple channels simultaneously. For example, you can monitor HDCP transactions on the DDC bus while also capturing data for the CEC bus. The ACA is accessible from the embedded web server on the 882 generator. The ACA GUI is implemented through a set of commands that can be executed to control and use the channel analyzer function. Procedures for using the ACA through the command line are also included below. 350 Chapter 13 Auxiliary Channel Analyzer
3 Setting up the ACA The ACA application is a Java application or applet. You can run the application from the generator web server. Note: You must also have the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.5 or later installed on your PC. You can download the JRE from the following website: The ACA is supported on generators with Release and higher. This release has the following firmware and gateware configuration. Software component 882C Version 882D Version Boot Rom vxworks Gateware 1 253F,75, (Tx p253fpga.bit) 400A,5, (p400fpga1.bit) Gateware 2 253A,7, (Rx p253rxfpga.bit 400B,6, (p400fpga2.bit) Running the ACA This subsection provides procedures on launching the ACA from the generator web server and from your PC. 881/882 Video Test Generator User Guide (Rev A.11) 351
4 To run the ACA from the web server: 1. Open a Web browser (such as Internet Explorer) and type the generator s IP address in the address entry field. For example, enter the following: The generator home page appears in the browser. 352 Chapter 13 Auxiliary Channel Analyzer
5 2. Click Auxiliary Channel Analyzer. The ACA main page appears as a separate application window as shown below: Operating the ACA This subsection provides procedures on operating the ACA. To set up the generator: 1. Connect the generator to the HDMI display device or source device under test by doing one of the following: a. Connect an HDMI-to-HDMI cable between the HDMI display device or source device under test and either of the HDMI OUT connectors on the generator. b. If you are using the analyzer, connect an HDMI-to-HDMI cable between the HDMI display device or source device under test and the HDMI IN connector on the generator. 881/882 Video Test Generator User Guide (Rev A.11) 353
6 2. Activate the HDMI-H interface on the output port: a. Press the Interface key to access the list of interfaces. A listing of signal interfaces appears on the generator s display as shown below. * VGA HDMI-D HDMI-H CVBS S-VIDEO SDI b. Choose either the HDMI-H item by pressing the adjacent soft key. The interface is activated and the port outputs the currently selected image and format. VGA HDMI-D *HDMI-H CVBS S-VIDEO SDI Alternatively, to select the interface through the command line, enter the following commands: XVSI 4 ALLU // Selects the HDMI-H interface // Applies the interface setting to the generator To monitor the CEC bus (channel): 1. Set up the generator/analyzer for HDMI in accordance with the instructions above. 2. In the ACA, from the File menu, select Connect to Analyzer. The Connect to Analyzer dialog box appears. 3. In the Connect To box, enter the IP address of the generator you want to connect to, and then click Connect. 4. From the CEC menu, point to Port, and the select the port you want to monitor. 5. On the toolbar, click the CEC button to enable it. Make sure all other buttons are disabled. 6. From the File pull down menu specify New Trace. 7. 7 8. Initiate the actions necessary to cause CEC messages to be transmitted between the HDMI source and sink device. The ACA begins the trace and displays the results in the main window, as shown below. T When you click on a specific transaction you can see the detail timing information are the data. The table below describes the information in the Details and Data panels. Details Time since last reset: Field not currently supported Size of message: The size of the message in bytes (example 5 bytes) Data Data size: The number of bytes in the message Data: The data is shown for each message. The + sign indicates that the last bit, the acknowledge bit is a logical 1; the - sign indicates that the last bit, the acknowledge bit was a logical 0. Message Source: The type of device (product type) and the logical address of the device that sent the message Message Destination: The destination device of the message. If a targeted device then its logical addres is provided. 8 Details Device Vendor ID: The identification code for the vendor equipment Data Bit Timings: These are the timings for each bit in the block. They are numbered on the left. The timings for the bit high times are listed and the timings for the low bit times 1. (Optional) Click the Save button on the toolbar to save the trace to a file. The Save Trace dialog box appears. Navigate to the folder where you want to save the file. In the File Name box, type a name for the file, and then click Save. 2. (Optional) The ACA includes a command utility available from the Options pull down menu. This utility enables you to enter CEC commands and monitor the results. To monitor the HDCP transactions on the DDC (I2C) bus (channel): 1. Set up the generator/analyzer for HDMI in accordance with the instructions above To set up the generator: on page In the ACA, from the File menu, select Connect to Analyzer. The Connect to Analyzer dialog box appears. 3. In the Connect To box, enter the IP address of the generator you want to connect to, and then click Connect. 4. From DDC menu, point to Port, and the select the port you want to monitor. 5. On the toolbar, click the HDCP button to enable it. Make sure all other buttons are disabled. 6. 9 7. Click the Capture activation button. 8. Initiate the actions necessary to cause HDCP transactions to occur. This might be selecting the HDCPprod image on the generator if the 882 is emulating a source for testing an HDMI sink. 9. The ACA begins the trace and displays the results in the main window, as shown below. T 10. (Optional) Click the Save button on the toolbar to save the trace to a file. The Save Trace dialog box appears. Navigate to the folder where you want to save the file. 10 To monitor the EDID transactions on the DDC (I2C) bus (channel): 1. Set up the generator/analyzer for HDMI in accordance with the instructions above To set up the generator: on page In the ACA, from the File menu, select Connect to Analyzer. The Connect to Analyzer dialog box appears. 3. In the Connect To box, enter the IP address of the generator you want to connect to, and then click Connect. 4. From DDC menu, point to Port, and the select the port you want to monitor. 5. On the toolbar, click the DDC and Events buttons to enable them. Make sure all other buttons are disabled. 6. From the File pull down menu specify New Trace. 7. Click on the Capture activation button. 8. Initiate the actions necessary to cause a hot plug event for EDID transmission to occur. This might be unplugging the HDMI cable on the generator if the 882 is emulating a source for testing an HDMI sink. 12 Running the ACA application using the command line This section describes how to run the ACA functions from the command line. You can only view the log data through the ACA application, but you can query the state of the channel analyzer and the channel analyzer capabilities of the generator through the command line. To query the ACA capabilities of the generator: 1. Query the number of ACA subsystem elements with the following command. DDCX:NDDC? // queries the number of ACA subsystem elements 3 // returns the number of subsystems 2. Query the name of an ACA subsystem with the following command. DDC<n>:PNAM? // queries the name of the ACA subsystem element Where <n> is the number associated with the subsystem. For example the following query requests the name of subsystem element 2. DDC2:PNAM? // queries the name of the ACA subsystem element HDMI-2 // returns the name of the subsystem 3. Query to determine if the DDC subsystem has an ACA monitor associated with it using the following command. DDC<n>:DCMX? // queries status of the DDC subsystem Where <n> is the number associated with the DDC subsystem. For example the following queries to determine if the DDC subsystem element 2 has ACA monitoring associated with it. DDC2:DCMX? // queries the status of the second ACA subsystem element 1 // returns the boolean response(0=no, 1=yes) To turn on the ACA monitoring for a DDC subsystem: 1. Activate monitoring on a specified DDC subsystem. DDC<n>:DCMG 1 // Activates monitoring Where <n> is the number associated with the DDC subsystem. For example the following turns on monitoring for ACA subsystem element 2. DDC2:DCMG 1 // Activates monitoring on DDC2 2. Query to determine if monitoring is activated on the DDC subsystem using the following command. DDC<n>:DCMG? // queries to determine if monitoring is active on the // DDC subsystem Where <n> is the number associated with the DDC subsystem. For example the following queries to determine if the DDC requests the name of subsystem element 2. DDC<n>:LOGG <gate> Where <n> is the number associated with the DDC subsystem and <gate> is either 0 (disable logging) or 1 (enable logging). For example, the following enables logging for subsystem 2. DDC2:LOGG 1 // enables logging for subsystem Query to determine if logging is enabled for a DDC subsystem using the following command. DDC<n>:LOGG? Where <n> is the number associated with the DDC subsystem. For example, the following command queries to determine if logging is enabled for subsystem 2. DDC2:LOGG? // queries to determine if logging is enabled // on subsystem 2 1 // returns the boolean response (0=disabled, 1=enabled) 3. Set the logging mode for the DDC system using the following command. DDCX:LOGM <mode> Where <mode> is the logging mode.for example, the following command sends data to the network and logs all data. DDCX:LOGM 5 // sends data to the network and logs all data 4. Query to determine the logging mode set for the DDC subsystem using the following command.
