4 Overview Overview Welcome to the Deltek Acumen Release Notes. These release notes contain a summary of the following: Pre-Installation Information New Features and Enhancements Software Issues Resolved Known Issues For system requirements and the Compatibility Matrix, see the Deltek Acumen Technical Installation Guide. 5 Upgrading Acumen Upgrading Acumen File Format Change In previous releases, Acumen didn t save any data about the available source fields in the workbook. In this release, Acumen saves source field data. This means that if you load a workbook from a previous version into Acumen 8.2, you have to import the projects again if you need to use the Fields tab. Custom Programming If you have custom programs or reports that use the Acumen API, review the following before you upgrade: Review all existing custom report work prior to your intended go-live date. Pay particular attention to any Acumen API changes that may impact your custom work. When upgrading, Deltek strongly recommends that you first deploy an instance of Acumen to test your customizations (if any) prior to moving into production. 6 Pre-Installation Information Pre-Installation Information Acumen is a Windows application. It requires no backend database installation. The system requirements are listed below. Hardware Requirements Standalone Computer Component Recommended Hardware Windows 64-bit Windows recommended CPU 4 cores recommended, 2 cores minimum Hard Drive Space 300MB recommended RAM 3GB RAM recommended for 32-bit Windows 8GB RAM recommended for 64-bit Windows GPU Discrete GPU recommended. Older integrated GPU s will affect performance. Virtual Machine If Acumen is hosted on a virtual machine, Deltek recommends the following: Component Recommended Hardware CPU Multi-core CPU Acumen is a multi-threaded application that takes advantage of multi-core processors. Acumen* 1GB Typical project size is <10K records. 2GB Typical project size is 10K - 100K records. 3GB Typical project size is >100K records. * Per concurrent Acumen instance and in addition to any memory needed for the operating system and other applications that may run in parallel with Acumen. If the operating system is a 64-bit version, Acumen will take advantage of the extended address space. Deltek therefore recommends adding additional memory to improve performance. Multi-Threading There is no option in Acumen to control multi-threading. Acumen tries to use as many CPUs as the computer has available when performing certain calculations (running Diagnostics, Risk Analysis, and so on). Release Notes 3

7 Pre-Installation Information Compatibility Matrix Acumen is a Windows application. It requires no backend database installation. The supported minimum software requirements are listed below. Supported versions are the currently actively tested versions of technologies used to deploy Acumen. Except for the Deltek Integrated Products, these technologies are not directly supported by Deltek. Changes to these technologies occur at the discretion of the individual technology vendors. Compatible versions are the recent previously supported and tested technologies used to deploy Acumen. These are not actively being tested but are believed to be compatible with Acumen. Deltek does not recommend these technologies for new deployments but will make its best effort to answer questions concerning these technologies. These technologies may not be available for troubleshooting at Deltek. For a complete list of the recommended minimum software requirements, see the Deltek Product Support Compatibility Matrix document that you can download from the Deltek Customer Care Connect site. 10 New Features and Enhancements New Features and Enhancements Deltek Acumen Options Dialog Box The Deltek Acumen Options dialog box has been redesigned. Instead of tabs across the top of the dialog box, there is now a list box on the left that you use for navigation. This allows for better visibility of all the options related to the selections on the left. For example, all options related to the Oracle Platforms are now on one tab titled Platforms (Oracle). In addition, changes used to be saved the moment you made them. Now, the changes are not saved until you click the OK button and you can click Cancel to cancel changes. Navigation pane instead of tabs Mentor The new Mentor feature is designed to provide users advice like a mentor would. In many cases this provides a safety net to minimize inaccurate results because of unreliable information. An experienced user can use these fields to add checks that ensure all users are working with the most reliable data. Risk Schedule Quality Use these settings to minimize unreliable results due to poor schedule quality. When you click Run Risk Analysis on the S3 // Risk tab, before running the analysis, Acumen checks the ribbon threshold selected here and analyzes the schedule quality to see if reliable risk results can be achieved. If the score is below the threshold specified here, Acumen displays a warning message. At that stage, you can choose to view or ignore the issues. Release Notes 7

11 New Features and Enhancements Enable or disable all Mentor features Enable or disable the Risk Schedule Quality mentor feature The ribbon that you use to judge the quality of the schedule The minimum score the selected ribbon must meet to be considered proper quality Fuse Error Log After you run a Fuse analysis on the S2 // Diagnostics tab, if there is an error, you can hover over the Ribbon Analyzer cell to see details of the error. In addition, you can now set Acumen to display an error log after a Fuse analysis if there are any errors. In the Analyze menu group, click Fuse (down arrow) > Show Log. 12 New Features and Enhancements You can set Acumen to display an error report after a Fuse analysis Click Show Log to have Acumen display a Fuse Analysis error report Work Authorization Document (WAD) Enhancements Activity Details Pane General Tab The Activity Details Pane General Tab now includes an Original WAD Path field and a WAD Import Date field. Original WAD Path This field displays the path and file name that was used when the Work Authorization Document (WAD) data was imported. WAD Import Date This field displays the date and time that the Work Authorization Document (WAD) data was imported. 13 New Features and Enhancements You can also now include an IssueDate field in the WAD file to indicate when authorization to begin work was given. This is used in EVAS metrics 09A101a and 09A102a if the dates are present. Custom Impact Types When you add custom impact types using the Risk Matrix dialog box, they are now added as columns in the Current and Mitigated sections of the Risk Register. They are not included in the risk analysis calculations; however, adding them here allows you to keep all risk impacts in a single location and to report on them. When you export the risk register to Excel, the custom risk impacts are included in the export. Similarly, when you import a risk register from Excel, any custom risk impacts that are in the spreadsheet are included in the import. When you click OK on the Risk Matrix dialog box, custom impact types are added to the Risk Register New Activity Fields Previous Start, Previous Finish, Previous Remaining Duration, and Project Previous Time Now To support EVAS Metric 06A506c, Acumen needs to be able to count activities that are near (within 3 days) the previous status date and see if they are now near the current status date. In order to do this, Acumen now includes four new fields: Previous Start Previous Finish Release Notes 10

14 New Features and Enhancements Previous Remaining Duration Project Previous Time Now When you create a new snapshot, these fields are now copied from the previous snapshot to the new snapshot if there is any prior information. This allows you to start from the current state when entering the manual values for EVAS metrics. You can view the Previous Start and Previous Finish dates, as well as the Previous Remaining Duration, by adding the columns to the Activities grid and you can insert all four fields into activity metric formulas and select them on the activity metrics Define Columns tab. New columns available on the Activities grid Level of Effort Primavera P6, Open Plan, and Microsoft Project all identify Level of Effort (LOE) activities in different ways. The new IsLevelOfEffort field in Acumen provides a way for DCMA metrics to find LOE activities. For Primavera P6, the field is mapped by default to Activity Type. For Open Plan, the field is mapped by default to Earned Value Technique. For Microsoft Project, you need to map a flag field in the project using the Fields tab. For other scheduling tools, you need to map an appropriate source field to a field in the project using the Fields tab. You can add the IsLevelOfEffort column to the Activity grid on the S1 // Projects tab using the Column Chooser. On the Metrics tab, Acumen now determines Level of Effort using this new field. 15 New Features and Enhancements New Control Account Fields Work Authorization Document (WAD) Issue Date Acumen now imports and exports the WAD Issue Date (the date on which the WAD was approved). You can insert the WAD Issue Date into control account metric formulas and select it on the activity metrics Define Columns tab. Oracle Primavera P6 Web Services Profile A Database Id field has been added to the Primavera P6 Web Services profile dialog box. The default value is 1 which matches the default value in Primavera P6. For more information on the Database Id that you should use, contact your P6 Administrator. Enter the P6 Database Id. The default value is 1 EVAS Metrics Enhancements Updated Revision The EVAS metrics have been updated to the March 2017 DCMA Revision and are installed with Acumen in the Templates sub-folder. The template file name is DCMA EVAS Metrics 23Mar2017.aft. Updated Metrics For a list of metrics that have been updated, including a description of the update, see Appendix A: Updated EVAS Metrics. When you ran diagnostics, Acumen read the zero as a value and included that project variable in the evaluation, displaying it as Red or Green. In this release, all manual project variables that have no value default to -1 or -1%, essentially no value. When you run diagnostics, manual EVAS metrics display a -1 value or a -1% (percentage) in gray to indicate that they have not been evaluated. -1 or -1% indicates that the project variable has not been evaluated -1 indicates that the project variable has no value Release Notes 13

17 New Features and Enhancements On the Tripwire Thresholds tab for EVAS metrics, there is now a new Gray threshold for the project variables that have a -1 or a value (depending on the type of metric). Indicates that the project variable has no value In addition, when you create a snapshot, you can specify whether or not you want to copy project variable values by selecting or clearing Copy Project Variables values forward to new Snapshots on the Deltek Acumen Options» Platforms (General) screen. If you select this option, all project variables are copied to the new snapshot.this is the default. If you clear this option, no project variable values are copied and all values in the new snapshot are empty. Specify whether or not you want to copy project variables Release Notes 14

18 New Features and Enhancements Microsoft Project Server Enhancements Project Online (Office 365) Acumen now supports importing projects from Project Online, the hosted version of Project Server. To import a hosted project, complete the following steps: 1. In Acumen, select the S1 // Projects tab. 2. In the Get External Data From menu group, click Microsoft Project» Microsoft Project Server. 3. On the Import from Microsoft Proejct Server dialog box, enter or select the URL for Project Online and click Refresh. If you have not logged onto the server, an error displays. In this case, complete the following: a. Click Sign in as a different user. b. Enter your username and password. c. In the Server Type field, select Project Online (Office 365). d. Click OK. e. Click Refresh. The grid lists all projects in the Office 365 (Project Online) location to which you have access. Everything else from this point forward works the same as when you import a local Project Server project. Select Project Online if your project is in Office 365 Release Notes 15

19 New Features and Enhancements Web Service Timeout You can now set the number of seconds before the Microsoft Project Server web service times out. You set it in the Deltek Acumen Options Platforms view. The default is 300. Set the number of seconds before the web service times out MSP Server Code Assignments When you connect to Microsoft Project Server, importing the code assignments can take additional time for a large project. In order to improve performance, you can now specify whether the system retrieves project code assignments when you import an MSP Server project list. If set to True/Selected, code assignment columns display in the grid on the MSP Server Project Selection dialog box (used when importing a project). It is set to False / Clear by default. You can set this in the Fuse.exe.config file or using the Deltek Acumen Options dialog box. 20 New Features and Enhancements Performance Enhancements The following are performance enhancements for this release: In order to improve performance when evaluating multiple metrics for a large number of activities, changes have been made to the way Acumen accesses activity fields from the diagnostics engine. This drastically reduces the amount of time it takes to run a Fuse analysis with large amounts of data. The Primavera P6 web project picker now populates faster. BK3 files now load faster. Acumen now takes less time to delete large projects. Previously, when you mapped fields on the Fields tab, Acumen had to collect data from the source project every time you made a change. This had a negative impact on performance. Now when you link a project to a workbook, Acumen imports information about the available fields. When you map fields on the Fields tab, Acumen does not need to read the source project and the performance is better. Ribbon Analyzer Enhancements N/A Metric Value After running diagnostics, a metric might display N/A because no records meet the inclusion and filter criteria, or if there is an error in the primary or secondary formula, or both. You can now hover over the cell to so see the reason for the N/A. Projects Pane Enhancements The Project Pane includes some new icons that you might see next to a project name: Field Description This icon displays while the project is in the process of being linked to Acumen. This involves reading the available fields. When the reading is complete, the icon changes to represent the file type, for example, MSP or Primavera. This icon displays after the project is linked and before it is imported. At this point, you cannot use the S1 // Project tab but you can map fields on the Fields tab. This icon displays when there is an error. If you hover over the icon, a tooltip displays with details of the project as well as a description of the error. Release Notes 17

21 New Features and Enhancements Project linked Project still processing Forensics Analysis Enhancements If the projects that you selected for analysis contain subprojects, the Forensic Analysis Wizard displays a mapping screen that allows you to map the subprojects so that the analysis is performed on the correct projects. If you have unique activity IDs across all subprojects, you can now select a new option titled Ignore Subproject Structure (Compare using Activity IDs). Acumen performs the analysis using the activity IDs. If you select this option and there are duplicate activity IDs, Acumen displays the duplicate IDs in a separate forensics category. 22 New Features and Enhancements Displays duplicate activity IDs Report Enhancements Fuse Summary Metric Report The following enhancements have been added to the Fuse Summary Metric report: Grouping of metric exception tables so that the Metric information is visible but the details of the exceptions are collapsed by default. A new tab, Program Summary 2, that includes: a one line summary of the all metrics groups that are also shown vertically on the Program Summary tab. A one line summary of all the published metrics that are also shown on the detailed tabs. The new one line summary s provide an easier way to copy and compare multiple projects in Excel. The rows in the detailed exception tables that were not exceptions in the previous period are now shaded. Release Notes 19

23 New Features and Enhancements Fuse Detailed Metric Report Publish a detailed report of all metrics that have the Publish Metric option selected on the Metrics tab. The results are published to a Microsoft Excel workbook. Each project has its own tab with control accounts, work packages, and activities listed down the left and all metrics across the top. You can use the Detailed Reports tab in Metrics to specify whether you want a tripped metric to display an X or a specific field value. For example, you can set an activity metric to display an X so that you know it tripped, or you may want to display the budget associated with the activity or control account that caused it to trip. The manual EVAS metrics display a -1 value or a -1% (percentage) in gray to indicate that they have not been evaluated. See Manual EVAS Metric Project Variables for more information about this new feature. 24 New Features and Enhancements In Metrics, you can use the options on the new Detailed Report tab to specify whether you want the metric to display an X (default) or a specific field when it is tripped. You can set this individually for each metric. You can publish this report from the S2 // Diagnostics tab. In the Publish menu group, click Publish» Fuse Detailed Metric Report. When you select it, you have the option to include control accounts and/or work packages and/or activities in the report. Release Notes 21

25 New Features and Enhancements Removed Features Working Hours Per Day Field The Working Hours Per Day field has been removed from the Deltek Acumen Options (Workbook) tab as well as the S1 // Projects» Activities» Activity View» Display Settings menu option. It was originally added for older versions of Oracle Primavera P6 which we no longer support. Re-Importing When Exporting to Microsoft Project Previously, when you exported as a Microsoft Project.mpp file, Acumen displayed a message asking whether you wanted to re-import the project. Acumen no longer gives you this option. Release Notes 22

26 Software Issues Resolved Software Issues Resolved Projects» Get External Data From» Microsoft Project Import Defect Description: When you imported an MSP project via native import, many standard fields were not displayed on the Fields tab. Customers Impacted: All Acumen customers using Microsoft Project through the native import. Workaround: Import the project via interop. Projects Defect Description: The Excel merge did not work when you re-imported a project. Customers Impacted: All Acumen customers. Workaround: None. Risk» Risk Models Defect Description: When creating a P scenario, for example, P80, and the Duration Time Unit of the workbook was set to Hours, the resulting remaining durations for the activities inside the P scenario were calculated incorrectly. This resulted in a P scenario with a much shorter duration than it should have been. Customers Impacted: All Acumen customers. Workaround: None. Release Notes 23

27 Known Issues Known Issues Asta PowerProject Installing and using Asta PowerProject or on the same machine as Acumen causes problems. Online Help Display If you use Internet Explorer and the help does not display correctly, you may need to turn off Compatibility View for the browser. Click Tools» Compatibility View settings and clear the Display intranet sites in Compatibility View check box then refresh the browser. Release Notes 24
