1 Hard Drive and Memory Upgrade Instructions NOTE: The MyMedia BurnBar Password will revert to the default 15A4D after installing the new drive. If you have chosen to change this in the past, you will find it necessary to repeat this if a password other than the default is desired. Replacing your data drive: To replace your data drive, open your MMBB computer by removing the both sides of the computer. To do this, turn the computer so that you are facing the back side and, with a Phillips screwdriver, remove 2 screws along each edge of the computer that go into the back of the computer through the thin overlapping edge of the side being removed. After removing the screws, slide that side back an inch or so and it should be removable. Before removing the drive, it is recommended that you remove the power cable from the back of the computer. Your computer has 2 hard drives, one for the Windows operating system and one for the MMBB data. Your data drive is usually going to be the lower of the 2 drives. The drive you remove should be a 500 GB or a 750 GB model. If your machine will not start into Windows after installing the new drive, ensure that you have not mistakenly removed the 80 GB operating system drive. If so, replace it and remove the other one. These are mounted horizontally in the lower front part of the computer. Remove the 2 cables (power and data) attached to the back of the lower of the 2 drives as indicated in the following photo. (The data cable may have a metal latch that must be depressed to release the cable) After detaching the lower drive, it is suggested that you restart the computer without this drive as a means of verifiying the correct drive has been detached. If Windows starts normally (mymedia BurnBar will not run with the data drive detached) you have detached the drive you need to replace. If Windows does not start, there is a good chance that your data drive is the upper drive and you should power off and replace the upper drive. In any case, the drive you are replacing should be labeled as a 500 GB drive. Remove the 2 screws on each side of the drive that secure the drive to the case and slide the drive toward the back of the case to remove. Insert the replacement drive and reverse the above steps to finish the installation. Windows XP s product activation. There is the possibility that Windows will detect the new drive and memory, if that is installed, and require you to reactive Windows XP. If this happens, you should attempt to reactive over the web and you may have to use the phone option. After one too many activations, Windows complains that your product key is no longer valid or you ve exceeded the limit. Bring up Activation If Windows isn t already prompting you to activate your software, or if you re unsure if you need to, you can easily bring up the activation wizard by going to Start, Run, and running the following command: oobe/msoobe /a( msoobe is Microsoft Out Of Box Experience, if you were curious). It s safe to run this command if Windows is already activated, too, so don t worry about it undoing what may already be complete.

2 Try Internet Activation First If you have an internet connection when activating Windows, attempt to use the online route first. In the Windows Product Activation Wizard, choose Yes, lets activate Windows over the internet now, followed by No, do not register with Microsoft. You may receive a friendly Thank you! and your copy of Windows will be good to go. If internet activation fails and the Wizard complains about too many activations or an incorrect product key, you still have the option of calling Microsoft s toll free number to activate Windows. Phone Activation Knowing exactly which buttons to push and the right words to say can help cut your time in half and get you the necessary code. If your online activation from above failed, click the Telephone button to generate an Installation ID, which you ll read off to a customer service representative shortly. Call the number for your appropriate country, and you ll enter into a phone menu system which would like nothing more than for you to activate by reading the numbers onscreen. The software behind the menu, however, does the same checking as the online activation method meaning if your online activation failed, so too will the automated phone activation. Press 0 on the phone keypad when asked if you are calling to activate Windows XP (the first opportunity you are prompted for input). Like many newer phone menus, it will respond I see that you d like to transfer to a customer service representative, and subsequently try to convince you to go back to the automated system. Ignore the pre-recorded woman s somewhat rude request to go back, and press 1 to talk to a human. After a short delay, a representative will ask for either the first six digits of your Installation ID, or the full set. (The first six digits of the Installation ID are the only real keys to generating a Confirmation ID, however the reps more often than not ask you to read off the rest of the group. The rest of the numbers are encoded values detailing some very basic hardware details about your computer.) If asked Is this the first time you re activating Windows?, say yes. If you say no, the representative will ask for an explanation as to why you re re-activating Windows. If asked Did you purchase the software from a retail store?, say It came pre-installed with my computer. As a final time-kill (their system sometimes takes a minute to generate Confirmation IDs on days with a particularly heavy load), you may be asked for your Product Key (Windows serial number The label containing this should be affixed to either one of the side panels, or the very back of the machine ). After you ve given them the necessary information, the representative will read the Confirmation ID to you, which you can simply type into the provided fields. Using these methods, it takes about 4 minutes to activate Windows on average.

3 Setting Update Level After installing new data drive and successfully starting Windows you ll need to set the update level of your machine to match the update level of the content on your new data drive. To do this Right-Click on the Start ICON in the lower-left corner of your display. Select Explore (should be the second choice from the top) and navigate to your newly installed data drive. This should be drive D: Open the mymedia BurnBar folder and locate the MMBB drive upgrade folder as shown below.

4 Inside that folder you will see a file named RegistryUpdate.exe Double-click this file ICON. After the update level is corrected you will see the following message.
