The following information covers issues and known work-arounds discovered that can be helpful in working with Maxum Gas Chromatograph Portal version Known issues that have been discovered are listed in this document along with the software patch version that it was fixed in if a correction is already available. If a solution is pending, a suggested work-around will be detailed in this document. The table below will indicate the current status. Note that all Software Patches are accumulative. This means for example a patch labeled patch 3 (.03) would have all of the corrections in patches 1, 2 and 3. Issue History Item # Date TFS # Issue Resolution Status 1 2/24/ Group Peak Issue Showing GCP Calibration Fixed /28/ Problem attaching a limit to an Analog Input Fixed /9/ Live Chromatograms do not work with 5.2 GC Fixed /6/ Realtime Chrom: Y axis Autoscale always on Fixed /10/ GCP 5.3 inserts APC IP addr in network list Fixed /14/ Cannot view realtime Chrom on the local HMI. Fixed /28/ GCP crash accessing the result configuration table Fixed /10/ MicroSAM Database restore is not working. Fixed /10/ Text entry in peak table issue if "enter" pressed. Fixed /20/ Man Resp Factors in Peak Table are hidden Fixed /17/ Prog Temp Ramp rates not correct for deg F Fixed Item 1: Microsoft.Net Framework generates an exception when viewing Group calibration information The issue is related to the initialization of the UI grid when selecting the Show calibration check box for Level and Replicate viewing. If the group has been previously calibrated and includes level and replicate information, it appears upon initial connection to the unit and the Show calibration is selected for this group first, an exception is thrown and any subsequent group selected will also fail as long as the instrument connection remains open. This can affect addition of new calibration levels as well as the ability to enter new concentration information for calibration using GCP. This is unfortunate and will be corrected, but the following work-around is available to temporarily address this issue until the next software release. Unrestricted Page 1 May 2, 2017
Work-Around: 1) Connect with GCP and in the Application View tree, go to Methods > Method name > Groups and select any detector that includes a defined group peak 2) Create temporary dummy group with Group Type set to Calibrated Group and select the row for this new group Unrestricted Page 2 May 2, 2017
3) Select Show calibration and notice the Calibration information is shown but empty 4) Then select the original calibrated group and the information will be shown without an exception For any new analyzer connection, the Show calibration box should be checked first for the dummy peak to insure all groups within any method will show calibration information correctly. This procedure must be followed any time the instrument connection is closed and reopened. If the Show calibration is first selected for any group that includes calibration information, the instrument must be closed and then reopened following the procedure above. Unrestricted Page 3 May 2, 2017
Item 2: GCP Exception when linking an AppAI to a Limit An issue was discovered when linking an AppAI to a Limit. This action causes an invalid foreign key for table appai exception in GCP. The exception is thrown when pressing the Save button after adding any AppAI in the Used by section of the Limit configuration tab in the Application View. It has been determined that this only affects limit additions to an AppAI. This is unfortunate and will be fixed, but the following work-around is available to temporarily address this issue until the next software release. Work-Around: This procedure requires the use of System Manager, which is still provided with the GCP Workstation installation. The last release of System Manager was version 5.00, meaning on initial connection to any newer database version, in this case 5.30, the application has to learn about the new table structure which takes a few minutes to complete. It is not possible to use System Manager to make 5.30 offline database modifications, but it is possible to modify any database using an online live connection to the unit. Starting System Manager 1) Open System Manager by going to Start > All Programs > Maxum System Tools > Maxum System Manager Unrestricted Page 4 May 2, 2017
2) Once opened, and if not already present, add the unit to All tab at the bottom of the page 3) Connect to the unit and allow it to learn about the new database version 4) Select the appropriate application tree and then double-click the AI entry in the IO Type section Unrestricted Page 5 May 2, 2017
5) Enter the Login and Password and the Application AI form window will open Unrestricted Page 6 May 2, 2017
6) Select the appropriate AI to link from the list and then select the correct Limit from the Limit ID drop down list 7) Then press Update AI to save the change Unrestricted Page 7 May 2, 2017
Item 3: Live Chromatograms do not work with 5.2 GC This is by design. The GC must have a 5.3 database to support this feature since it depends on start of cycle information sent from the GC that was not available in earlier software versions. (Help will be updated in Patch 1 to avoid misunderstanding.) Item 4: Realtime Chrom: Y axis Autoscale always on There was a change to the Chart.dll software module that disabled the ability to turn off autoscaling on the Realtime Chromatogram. This was corrected in the latest Chart.dll, but this did not get picked up for the Workstation or Local HMI in version When trying to switch to manual settings and turn off autoscale, it reverts back to autoscale every time. When using the local HMI, instead of the Realtime Chromatogram, an hour glass is displayed momentarily and then the screen reverts back to the last menu screen. Work-Around: The correct DLL is used by GCP and ChromViewer applications which should be used as the current workaround for viewing Realtime Chromatograms. Launch ChromViewer from GCP : 1. Select "Tools Start Chrom Viewer Chromatogram Open Realtime Chromatogram..." menu. 2. Enter analyzer IP address and click "Connect" to connect to the analyzer. Once connected, the realtime chromatogram window will be displayed for you to start or stop realtime chromatograms for the first application. You can use realtime chromatogram toolbar buttons to start and stop realtime chromatograms of one or more detectors, and adjust realtime chromatogram settings. 3. To show realtime chromatograms from a different application Select a desired application in application toolbar to show the realtime chromatogram window for the selected application. An Example Sequence of Screen Shots follows: Unrestricted Page 8 May 2, 2017
Figure 1/5 Figure 2/5 Unrestricted Page 9 May 2, 2017
Figure 3/5 Figure 4/5 Unrestricted Page 10 May 2, 2017
Figure 5/5 Item 5: GCP 5.3 inserts APC IP address in network list APC entries should be blocked from appearing in the GCN list of network devices. In 5.3 they show up as Gateways and they should not show up at all. In the next patch, only Optichrom GC broadcasts will show up in the GCN list of network devices as Optichrom Gateways. Work-Around: These entries can be manually deleted by identifying the entries in GCN that are named Optichrom Gateways but show an IP address of your PC that is used to run APC. Note that this entry will be restored each time you reconnect an APC application. Unrestricted Page 11 May 2, 2017
Item 6: Cannot view Realtime Chromatogram on the local HMI. On the local HMI when "View Chrom is selected to see the real-time chromatogram, an hour glass appears and then the display reverts back to the main menu without showing any chromatogram at all. Work-Around: The correct DLL is used by GCP and ChromViewer applications which should be used as the current workaround for viewing Realtime Chromatograms. If using ChromViewer: 1. Select "Chromatogram Open Realtime Chromatogram..." menu. (Note: See Screen Shot examples for ChromViewer in Item # 4.) Item 7: GCP crash accessing the result configuration table, after saving the column display settings An issue was reported relating saving settings choosing which columns to display in the Result Configuration table. The problem arises after the settings are changed and saved and the GCP connection to the analyzer has been closed and reopened. When the user returns to the Result Configuration table, GCP crashes and must be restarted. (Note: This problem is avoided if the columns are not modified in the Result Configuration Tab until the next patch.) Work-Around: This procedure does not solve the problem but will allow the user to return to the Result configuration table without GCP crashing. To temporarily solve this problem the user must open the DynamicUserSettings.xml file, make a code change and save the file. However saving column settings in the Result configuration table again will reset the user config files back to the error state. Unrestricted Page 12 May 2, 2017
If the user has already changed the columns to be viewed and saved the changes, the following procedure will allow the Result Configuration screen to be viewed again without GCP again: Open DynamicUserSettings.xml file in the directory:. C:\Users\******\AppData\Local\Siemens_AG\GasChromPortal.exe_Url_*\ ) Using Notepad, find the line with cardwidth and change the field from true to false. Save xml. file. This is only a temporary fix to allow the user to view the Result Configuration column without crashing. If the user settings in this column are saved again the line will return to True and again cause a GCP crash. Unrestricted Page 13 May 2, 2017
Item 8: MicroSAM Database restore is not working from GCP The Database restore actually transmits the new Database to the MicroSAM, but the automatic reset is not sent to the MicroSAM and the end of the Database load sequence. Work-Around: Manually reset the MicroSAM GC after performing the Database restore. The MicroSAM will power-up with the newly loaded Database. Unrestricted Page 14 May 2, 2017
Item 9: Text entries in the Peak table are not working correctly if "enter" pressed on the last line of the table Text entry in the Peak table is not working properly if "enter" is pressed on a text field in the last row of the peak table. After that the attempt to change the text again results in characters typing over the top of one another until you change the focus to another row and come back. Work-Arounds: Use the mouse to make changes and move between fields in the Peak Table Or If you encounter the problem change the focus by one of the following methods: 1) Going to to another line and then coming back to the line you want to edit 2) Going to another field on the line, pressing the Esc key and going back to the field you want to edit. Item 10: Manual Response Factors in the Peak Table are not displayed by Default The display of the Manual Response Factor column is not turned on by default in 5.3. Work-Arounds: Position the mouse over the header of the Peak table and Right Click to Show Hidden Columns and Left Click on Manual Response Factor entry to add that column to the Peak table view.. Unrestricted Page 15 May 2, 2017
Item 11: Programmed Temperature Ramp rates are not correct for deg F The programmed temperature ramp rate calculations are not correct when the temperature controller unit specified is degrees Fahrenheit. Work-Arounds: Continue to use degrees Celsius units for temperature controllers in programmed temperature controller applications until patch 1 is available. Unrestricted Page 16 May 2, 2017
