Combics 2 Stainless Indicator Analog Platform High-Precision IS Platform IP 67 Available Options: - RS232 (SBI/xBPI) - RS485/422 (xbpi) - Analog: 0-20mA/4-20mA/0-5V - Printer - Bar code scanner - External rechargeable batter pack A New Combination of Sartorius Connectivity: The new Combics 2 Indicator from Sartorius offers a wide variety of options for connecting a number of different high-precision scales, analog load cells, and communication devices. The diagram above shows one of these possibilities: the integration of the Combics 2 Indicator with an IS Platform and an analog platform. The analog platform is connected to an internal A/D converter with 60,000 steps of resolution and the IS platform is connected to the COM port. This setup also allows for several other communication options (seen above) depending on the specific weighing application. The Combics 2 indicator offers a wide variety of features and applications including: counting, check weighing, classification, net-total formulation, totalizing, animal weighing and neutral measurement. The Combics 2 indicator is also equipped with built in check weighing LED s for check weighing applications. The Combics 2 Indicator is the perfect alternative for analog and digital platforms along with a variety of communications options. 3 Connecting an IS Platform to the Combics 2 Indicator: Parts Required: (depending on IS platform size, see table below) Platform Size RS485 to RS232 Converter Other parts required FEG and IGG YDO52IS None EDE YDO58IS YCC01-01ISM6 CCE YDO54IS YCC01-01ISM6 #NOTE: All IS 485 to 232 Converters for COMBICS 2 will come with a IP 67 cable gland and terminal assembly for connecting power from Indicator to platform Installing the RS232 Converter in the FEG and IGG IS Platforms: (consult the Product Specialists for details on installing other platform sizes) Step-by-Step Instructions: 1.) Remove pan from base of IS Platform and place out of the way. 2.) Remove 4 screws from smaller silver box on IS platform and remove top. 3.) Remove 2 screws holding the RS485 cable into place and remove the interface cable; the unit should resemble the picture below. Insert the YDO54IS (RS-232) Interface where the RS-485 interface was removed and replace screws that were removed; the unit should look like the picture below.

Replace top cover and secure with the 4 screws, make sure cables are secure and replace pan back onto base of unit. 6.) Cut the YDO54IS cable directly behind the 12-pin round male connector. Remove a 4- inch section of the black insulation to expose the internal shielding and wires. 7.) Strip each of the internal wires and tin the end of each with solder to ensure proper electrical connections when installing in the Combics 2 indicator. 8.) Install the IP67 gland over the wiring and make sure it is installed in the correct direction to screw onto the Combics 2 indicator. (See below)

5 9.) Open the Combics 2 Indicator by removing the 4 bolts on the back of the unit and removing the front cover. 10.) The picture below notes the color code and purpose of each wire, take careful note of this configuration, noting the wires that are not used and the 2 wires used for power to the platform. Connect the wires to the appropriate Pin on the COM1 terminal block. (See further instruction for installing the power wires) Wire Color Purpose Connect to. 6 11.) The +14 Volt supply and Ground are found on the board in pin location 3 (supply voltage) and pin location 6 (Ground). Pay careful attention to where these pins are located and note that the Combics 2 does not come installed with the terminal pins shown in the picture. Make sure power is shut off to unit. ii. Remove 2 ribbon cables and 4 screw holding board to housing and carefully remove the board. iii. Carefully solder the 5-prong terminal in the location noted above. iv. Reinstall board to housing and re-connect ribbon wires. v. Plug in unit and test the pins noted above for ground and +14 Volts.

7 13.) Installing the power plug to connect to the terminal. i. Carefully solder the pink +14V supply line to slot #1 of the connecter and solder the red/blue Ground wire to slot #4. (See picture below) This must coincide to the appropriate pin on the terminal installed on the board in the previous steps. Solder wires to appropriate sockets on plug. ii. Connect the plug to the terminal strip on the board and make sure all other wires are connected appropriately according to the table on page 4. Place the cover back on the unit, making sure the rubber seal in seated correctly, secure the 4 bolts on the back. Setting the Menu Codes for the IS Platform in the Combics 2 Indicator: These instructions will assist with navigating through the menu codes of the Combics 2 Indicator to setup the IS weighing platform as WP2. Other menu setting besides the ones outlined in this paper can be found in the Combics 2 instruction manual. Navigating the Menu: 1.) Turn the Combics Indicator off and then on again by pressing the key, while all the segments are displayed, press the key briefly. APPL will appear on the display.

8 2.) Press the key until SETUP appears on the display and press the key, WP-1 will appear on the display. 3.) Press the key until CODE appears on the display and press the key. A blinking cursor will appear in the bottom left hand of the display. 4.) Press the key until the number 2 appears on the display and press the key to bring the cursor over on space. Continue the process to enter the code , finishing by pressing the key. CODE will appear back on the display along with the number 5 in the top right corner. This confirms it is in the Service Mode. 5.) Press the key until COM1 appears on the display and press the key. 6.) Press the key until WP-2 appears on the display press the key RS- 232 will appear on the display. 7.) Press the key and BPI-RS232 will appear on the display, press the key an additional time and the number 1 will appear on the display. (The Combics 2 indicator is now reading the IS platform menu options, these can be changed by referring to the IS manual, in this case the menu setting will be kept at the default) 8.) Press and hold the key until the segments all-light up and the indicator returns with zeros on the display. 9.) The IS platform and the analog platform can be toggled by pressing the key. Keep in mind that the IS platform can be retrofitted with its own power supply if the specific weighing application call for this. Extension cables and other accessories are also possible.
