The last date to meet the requirements is 30 June Purpose This certificate is intended for people employed in the horticulture industry who seek to specialise in Floriculture. The aim of the certificate is to provide recognition for the attainment of the knowledge and skills which are essential for competence in that sector of the horticulture industry, together with other skills which are desirable to complement them. In order to encourage a flexibility of approach and to allow people to pursue areas of personal interest, both within the industry and outside of it, the New Zealand Horticulture Industry Training supports people offering credits from other sections of the Framework. When people select these complementary credits, the Industry Training supports a general approach. It accepts that there is merit in the certificate reflecting a broad base of skills and competencies instead of a narrow defined course. The certificate encourages this flexible approach in order to promote the transportability and development of skills, knowledge and personal interests across subject areas. The has developed a National Diploma in Horticulture qualification and intends developing further supervisory and management qualifications. Some credits gained from the National Certificate in Horticulture (Floriculture) (Level 4) will be able to be to be used towards such qualifications. Trainees should bear this in mind when selecting electives. The New Zealand Horticulture Industry Training urges people to sight the qualification requirements that are available in those areas before choosing electives. People should be aware of the other level 4 certificates available which relate to other disciplines in the industry. They should seek assistance from appropriate sources (eg. careers advisors, provider liaison officers, Regional Managers) if in doubt as to which certificate to aim for. Replacement Information This qualification has been replaced by the Production Horticulture strand of the National Certificate in Horticulture (Advanced) (Level 4) with strands [Ref: 1015].

Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided in section 7 of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) Rules and Procedures publications available at Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard. This qualification has been replaced by the Production Horticulture strand of the National Certificate in Horticulture (Advanced) (Level 4) with strands [Ref: 1015]. For detailed information see Review Summaries on the NZQA website. While the SSB is confident that no candidates will be affected by this review, any who are enrolled in courses leading to this qualification must transfer their results to the National Certificate in Horticulture (Advanced) (Level 4) [Ref: 1015] as this qualification is no longer achievable. NZHITO intends that no existing candidate be disadvantaged by the review of this qualification. Any person who feels that they have been disadvantaged by these transition arrangements should contact NZHITO at the address below. Previous versions of the qualification Version 4 has been reviewed because it reached its expiry date and it comprised unit standards that have been reviewed and replaced. Changes to structure and content additional standards in the Compulsory component: 772, 3004, 12395; standards deleted from the Compulsory component: 23, 33, 780, 1792; elective requirements lowered from 23 to 20 credits from Horticulture sub-field; new requirement for 10 credits from anywhere on the Framework; the previous transition arrangements no longer apply; increase in credit total from 120 to 143. Please note that standards deleted from the compulsory component can be used towards the elective requirements. For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for any of the expiring standards will be exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standard. 6 NQF Ref 0087 Version 5 Page 6 of 8 Credit for Exempt from People with credit for Unit 532, Obtain first aid certificate and who have been awarded a first aid certificate from a provider who has met the Occupational Safety and Health accreditation requirements for first aid certificates are exempt from the requirements of Unit 6400, Manage first aid and Unit 6402, Provide basic life support. Any version of a standard contained within this qualification which retains its original standard identification number will continue to meet the requirements of this qualification. The strongly recommends that all people engaged in previous versions of the qualifications meet the requirements of those versions by 31 December After that date, people should meet the requirements of the new version. The recommends that providers gradually phase in the new version of the qualification and phase out the previous version. Classification This qualification is classified according to the NQF classification system and the New Zealand Standard Classification of Education (NZSCED) system as specified below.
