The changes you make will not take effect until you press APPLY or OK. To enable the use of time channels, select use time channels. Every connection you make with this function enabled includes the time channel now showing in the box above. Also, all connections with a time channel are shown with a blue x. Borttaget: <sp><sp> When you highlight a user in the user section and a key in the key section and press the CONNECT button you create an access. You also have the possibility to select a time channel. 8
9 CREATING A BACKUP OF THE DATABASES IMPORTANT: Make sure you backup your databases on a regular basis. 1) Create a folder in a directory of your choice. 2) Click on File and Backup in the KeyWin program 3) Press Browse, select the created folder and press OK. Your database backup is ready. RETRIEVING THE BACKUP FILES Make sure all KeyWin software is shut down. 1) Select all files in your backup directory. 2) Copy and paste the files into KeyWinIV\Tables. When asked if you want to overwrite the files, select yes to all. IMPORTANT: When you reinstall KeyWin and using earlier backup files, it s very important that you at the same time reset the cabinet/cabinets in the system so no conflict appears between KeyWin and the cabinet. (See section Cabinet Reset and Clearing RAM ) At reinstallation KeyWin Administration must be started before the cabinet is powered up. Keys which are temporarily out from the cabinet at reinstallation will be showed as Out but you can t see who has those keys. When the keys are back in the cabinet, the event log on those keys will work as normal. Added keys, users and connections, in the time between the used backup and the reinstallation must be re-register, as well as deleted keys and users must be deleted again. Please note that all events will be lost at a reinstallation of KeyWin with an earlier backup. Therefore you should regulary save and clear events. This you will easily do in the KeyWin main window, File events. The events will be saved as an text file. 9
10 CABINET RESET Clearing RAM Cut the power completely to the cabinet. Remove the fuse/power cable, backup power supply and RAM backup battery. If it is the last cabinet in the system, remove RS 485 jumpers. Installing Cabinet 1) Make sure the last cabinet in the system has the RS 485 jumpers in the right place. 2) If possible make sure all keys associated with the cabinet are returned and inside the cabinet. 3) When the cabinet has been powerless for 5 seconds, put the power back on to the first cabinet in the following order: a) Connect the RAM battery. b) Put the fuse/power cable back in place. c) Connect the backup power cable. 4) The display should say Waiting for PC connection within a few seconds. 5) Start the KeyWinIVAdministration software and make sure you have the right COM port selected. 15 TROUBLESHOOTING General PROBLEM REASON SOLUTION The boot sequence for the cabinet was not finished. The cabinet is stuck waiting for an answer from the strips. It s either one/several defect CAN cables and/or one/several defect strips. The display show Cabinet Boot and nothing happens when I try to connect to cabinet. I checked the statistics for the cabinet and there are a lot of system boots. I ve connected power cable and transformer but nothing happens. I powered up the cabinet but it is stuck at Init CtrlStrips The backup PSU doesn t seem to work. The power cables might have a bad connection. Is there any adjacent equipment that can cause powerful bursts on the power cables? Most likely there is insufficient contact for the RAM battery. Check the strips one at a time. Start with the two cables connected to the Main board and connect them to the first strip. Reset the cabinet. If you get passed Cabinet Boot you know the two cables and the first strip are ok. Repeat for all the strips. If the strips all turn out ok but you still get stuck on when all connected, check the cables between the strips. Check all cables. Check the 500 ma fuse for the power supply. Check battery and make sure it has good contact in both terminals. Check the 3,15 A fuse. If you have a multimeter you can check the charge voltage of the battery. Measure at the connector going to the battery and you should have app. 14V. If you do, change battery. If not, check cables. 15
16 PROBLEM REASON SOLUTION Do you have the correct COM port? Is the modem (M4) powered up? Is the KW4 icon in the system tray flashing? I m trying to connect to the cabinet but it doesn t seem to respond. I m trying to connect to the cabinet using a USB to RS232 serial converter but there is no response. I am having problems with the communication in general. I have created some users but I can not see their passwords in User/Display password. I cannot open the door. When I select the door number the solenoid is pulled but releases instantly. When I open the cabinet not all keys that I have access to are lit. I don t have 23 doors in my system but still there is an event in the PC from door 23! Do you have the right COM port? Are the correct drivers installed? Is the KW4 icon in the system tray flashing? Is the system located in hostile environment (noisy in terms of electronics)? This function only displays passwords for user who have access to keys. The reason could be an interference in the communication. This problem may occur in some other way. This was only one example. You could for example get an event that occurred in the year Select the right COM port. Make sure you only have one KW software running at the time. When you shut either KeyWinIV or KeyWinIVAdministration down it also closes KeyWinIVDriver regardless if the other software is running or not. Restart the software. Right click My Computer and select properties. Select Hardware and Device manager. In Ports(COM & LPT) you should have a virtual COM port called USB Serial port (COM#). If not, reinstall drivers from CD. Replace the cable from the modem with a shielded twisted-pair cable. Connect the shield ground in the cabinet. Give the users access to keys if you want to see their passwords. Make sure the timer for the door open time is not set to 0. (KeyWinIVAdministration) Check that accesses are correct in KeyWin. If the fault still appears, reset the cabinet and re-install from the PC. This will not affect the functionality of the system. The only problem that one could experience is that one will not find the event that took place at the right date and/or time. 16
17 PROBLEM REASON SOLUTION Do you have a lot of accesses, users and keys? After the box disappears the databases are sent to the cabinet. Depending on the amount of data the time may vary. If there are 2000 users, 228, keys and accesses it may very well take up to 30 minutes before all the data is transferred. I have reinstalled my cabinet and the box Please Wait! has disappeared, but still I can not log on to the cabinet. I get one/several unregistered keys on the same position as a registered key. The display shows Error Connect PC. Most likely there is something wrong with the strip. The cabinet has rebooted and the databases where not valid. Right click on the KeyWinicon in the system tray and select show. The box will tell you when all databases are transferred to the cabinet. Replace the strip. Start KeyWinIV or KeyWinIVAdministration. If either program is running, restart it. Correct database is now transmitted from KeyWin. All data has to be transmitted before using the cabinet. Error messages in KeyWinIV MESSAGE REASON SOLUTION Cannot perform this operation on a closed dataset. Invalid Date Invalid Time For some reason the application or driver is attempting to access a closed table in the databases. A message from the cabinet to the PC was erroneous. A message from the cabinet to the PC was erroneous. 1. Restart KeyWin. 2. If the problem persists, reboot the computer. 3. If the problem is still not solved backup the Databases, un-install and re-install KeyWin. Retrieve the databases and start KeyWin once again Click OK. The system is ok and will continue as normal. Click OK. The system is ok and will continue as normal. If you have followed the directives in the troubleshooter and the problems persist, contact your local service dealer. 17

21 Description of functionalities in the KeyCon system KeyWin IV PC software package Keybox 9000 SC (KeyCon) is administrated by PC software KeyWin IV. The package includes; RS 232: A kit including a CD-ROM, a modem incl. a 1,7 m modem cable with contact (can be prolonged with a shielded twisted-pair cable to 1200m) and a PC-cable (RS 232) to be connected from PC-port to modem. TCP/IP A kit with a CD-ROM, an IP-converter, PC-cable, converter cable (RS 485) and network cable. PC software (Swedish, English, German, French, Spanish, Deutch, Italian, Finnish, and Danish) is adapted for use in Windows 2000/NT/XP. Installation expansion cabinet For installation of the master Keybox 9400 / 9500 SC in combination with one expansion model Keybox 8500 EC, a cable for KeyCon strips, an alarm cable and solenoid cables are mounted in the 8500 EC. Alarm contact for door and Battery backup Alarm contact and Battery backup are always included as standard. Alarm is to be connected from the printed circuit card of Keybox to an existing alarm system or a siren. Alarm triggers if somebody tries to open Keybox door violently. Built-in alarm in KeyCon strip Each strip has a built-in alarm as standard. If a person, having access to Keybox, by mistake takes a peg for which he is not programmed, a buzzer (soft alarm) triggers during about 30 seconds giving the user the possibility to take correct peg. Thereafter a hard alarm triggers if wrong peg is not put back if Keybox is connected to an alarm system or a siren. Soft alarm as well as hard alarm is automatically registered in the PC. Also when door is open 30 seconds longer than the time programmed for door alarm, a hard alarm triggers if Keybox is connected to an alarm system of building. Alarm is self-restored when wrong peg is put back and door closed. Modularity KeyCon strips, up to three (9400), six (9500) and sixteen (9600), can easily be mounted and connected one by one in each cabinet with a click-on system. 45 (9400) or 90 (9500) ordinary key hooks, for keys not having to be coded, are always mounted inside door at factory. As said, one expansion module, Keybox 8500 EC, can be connected to one master Keybox 9400 / 9500 SC giving up to 126 / 168 KeyCon pegs (key places) in one system (master+slave). Flexible key places Each coded peg with key/key bundle can be programmed and placed on a flexible key place. This means that the peg can be put back into any place in the cabinet (or cabinets if 8500 EC connected) as the intelligence knows where in the cabinet the peg is placed. The peg is marked by a flashing diode lamp above each place where the peg is put, when you want to take out the desired peg or pegs. 21
22 Select key in the Keybox Display After having opened Keybox door with PIN-code (PIN+#+cabinet number 1-2, see below) the key user can select desired key or keys, one by one, by pressing the arrow key on the key pad. Now the diode lamp flashes above the desired key while other keys, to which the key user has also access, are marked by a diode lamp lighting but not flashing. In case desired key is already taken, you can see in the Keybox Display who has taken the key and, in the PC, at which time. Alternatively you can, on the keypad, make a quick search of desired key by pressing letters like on a mobile phone. If an expansion model is connected you can, before opening door, in display read in which cabinet the desired key is placed and thereafter press number (1-2) of the actual cabinet for opening door. Key places graphically visible in PC KeyCon operator can always control which keys are in the Keybox. Operator opens a window making the contents of Keybox visible graphically. By clicking on a key, above which the key name is stated, operator will immediately know details about the key. By opening another window the key events are shown. User PIN-codes If a user has forgotten her/his code, the responsible operator can (with operator pass word) open a list showing all user PIN-codes programmed. Operator pass word two access levels Operator pass word is at factory programmed for two access levels. Pass word for high access enables responsible operator to work with the program and pass word for low access means that you can study events, programmed users and keys etc., but you are not able to add or delete anything in the program. Both pass words can and should be altered. Access control Keybox can be connected to an access control system (card reader). With the card reader you activate Keybox and you can then open Keybox by using your PIN (card-pin). Key peg Our patented and design protected key peg is very sturdy. The electronics inside is spring loaded that means that the peg can be used in rough environments. The peg can carry also a heavy key-bundle. Security key ring We offer our own sealed key ring for the key peg. This ring is very easy to seal and cannot be opened without tools. The ring is made of a very strong plastic material. Diameter 50 mm. User can easily make diameter smaller. Available in red, blue and grey colour (see pricelist). Time out Operator can program a key for being out of the Keybox a limited time. In case the key is not returned within the programmed time, the operator is informed in event log and by an alarm key lightning up ALARM in red letters in the key section of the main window. When clicking on this alarm key, operator is informed which key or keys are not returned in time. 22
23 Who has which key? You can (also in low access ) filter who has taken which key. If the key is programmed for use during a max. time period the alarm (or siren) triggers if cabinet is connected to an alarm system or a siren. Siren is to be provided and installed by installer connections user/peg; 2000 PIN-codes For each Keybox (PCB) connected to the PC you can make up to connections of programmed users/pegs (keys). In the window, which appears when you connect a peg to a user, you can read the number of remaining connections available. Up to 2000 PIN-codes can be programmed. Matrix To give multiple users access to a key or to give a user access to multiple keys you can click the Matrix button. A new window will show, with all users on the left hand and all the keys on the top. You can program the access simply by clicking in the user row/key column. When you are ready you click the OK button to return to the main window. Time zones In the Matrix you can also click-in up to 100 time zones which you have already programmed in a separate window which you open by clicking key time zones in the main window. 23
