1 One Blue Hill Plaza, 16th Floor, PO Box 1546 Pearl River, NY PC-AMERICA, (Voice) (Fax) Toshiba Tec ST-Axx Series Installation Guide This document provides step-by-step instructions for setting up your Toshiba Tec ST-Axx Series system, which contains the following components: The Toshiba Tec ST-Axx Series Terminal. Either the fixed or pivoting Toshiba Pole Display. The Toshiba Magnetic Card Reader (MCR). The Toshiba TRST-A1x series Thermal Receipt Printer. The Toshiba Tec Cash Drawer. 1 P a g e

2 Hardware Ports At the bottom of the monitor you will find: A LVDS port (used for Touchscreen). A MCR Connector (used for Magnetic Card Reader). Three USB ports (open). Note: To access the main hardware ports of the unit the panel covering that area must be removed. To remove the cover, squeeze the two notches on the lower part of both sides of the cover and gently lift up and out. 2 P a g e

3 On the Right side of the unit you will have the following ports: A BIU Connector (used for either the fixed or pivoting Toshiba Pole Display). A Cash Drawer 1 port (used for the Toshiba Tec Cash Drawer). A Cash Drawer 2 port (open). A Powered USB (12V) (can be used for the Toshiba TRST-A1x series Thermal Receipt Printer). 3X USB Port (open, can also be used for the Toshiba TRST-A1x series Thermal Receipt Printer). Mouse Port (open). Keyboard Port (open). Mic (open). Speaker (open). Ethernet (Lan) (plug internet cable RJ-45 into this port). On the left side of the unit you will have the following ports: A RIU Connector (open). A COM 3 port (open). A COM 2 port (open). A COM 1 port (open). A Powered USB (12V) (can be used for the Toshiba TRST-A1x series Thermal Receipt Printer). A Powered USB (24V) (open). A VGA port (open). AC Inlet (used for power cable). 3 P a g e

4 Prerequisites to Hardware Installation Installing Microsoft POS for.net The installer for Microsoft POS for.net can be downloaded at: 1. Run the installer and select Install. 2. Enter a User Name and Organization and select Next. 3. Select Accept. 4 P a g e

6 OPOS Driver Installation (for all devices) The installer for the OPOS devices can be downloaded at: 1. Select Next. 2. Select Development $ Execute under setup type. 3. Select the items to be installed. Note: The options selected, (pictured left) are the recommended settings. 4. Select Next. 6 P a g e

8 Hardware Installation Note: The following instructions are dependent on you removing the cover. 1. Fully insert the supplied A.C. power cord to the A.C. Power Connector and route the cord through the cable restraint bar. Toshiba TRST-A10 Thermal Receipt Printer 1. Connect the supplied USB Y printer cable to the powered (24V) USB port and route the cable through the cable restraint bars. Note: Optionally the printer can be connected via a standard USB cable with an external power source. 8 P a g e

9 2. Ensure the printer power switch is turned off. 3. Connect the power end of the USB Y printer cable to the power connector on the printer. Be sure to properly align the pins on the cable end to the connector. Failure to properly align the connector can cause damage to the pins on the cable. 4. Connect the data end of the USB Y printer cable to the USB connector on the printer. The cable will only fit one way. 5. Route both cables through the attached cable restraints. 9 P a g e

10 Loading Paper in the TRST-A10 Printer When you use this printer for the first time or when the receipt paper has been used up, load a receipt roll in, following the procedures listed below while the printer power is set to ON. A thermal printer prints thermal receipt paper by applying heat to the paper to react with the chemicals on the paper surface. A red line which appears on the reverse side of the receipt paper indicates that the paper is almost used up. 1. Turn the printer power ON. 2. Hold the raised sides firmly and lift upwards to unhook the printer cover. Note: On some of the newer models there is a lever that you can push to open the printer. 3. Hold both sides of the printer cover and open it until it stops. 4. Check for the correct orientation of the receipt roll, and put it into the paper holder. 5. Pull the receipt paper until it extends past the paper outlet (about 2 inches), and then close the printer cover by pressing its front center gently until a positive lock is felt. 10 P a g e

11 Toshiba TRST-A10 Thermal Printer Configuration The printer is set from the factory to work correctly with your new POS bundle. However if there are problems with the unit printing use this section to make sure that the printer is configured correctly. The USB Toshiba Driver is already setup in Windows. The following Configuration is for the printer. 1. Turn the printer off. 2. Turn the printer over so the back of the printer is facing away from you. You will see the number 12 at the bottom right hand corner. 3. In the space below the number, there will be two dip switches. Flip the #1 dip switch to the on position (down). 4. Turn the printer back over to the normal operating stance. 5. Press and Hold the feed button while turning on the printer, this will put the printer in config mode. When the printer first comes on it will print a piece of paper (Diagnostics Form) and then print the Printer Config Menu. 6. By default under Communication Interface the USB TYPE is set to Vendor Specific Class. We will now change that to Printer Class. Note: If the communication interface is already set to Printer Class then proceed to step At the Main Menu we need to select Set Communication Interface by clicking the feed button 3 times (3 short clicks) then press and hold it down, you will hear beeps to confirm. 11 P a g e

12 8. It will then print the Communication Interface Menu, and ask you what you would like to edit. As we need to set only the USB interface type, Short Click the feed button (no) 8 times until you get to set USB interface type? Where you will perform a Long Click of the feed button to select YES. 9. Short click the feed button to Set the USB interface type to Printer class then press and hold it down validate your selection, you will hear beeps to confirm. 10. Printer class should show highlighted on the receipt. Perform a Long Click (Yes) to Save new parameters. The Main Menu will be printed again. Short click the feed button once to Exit and then press and hold it down to confirm. The Diagnostics Form will print again confirm that the USB type under Communication Interface says Printer Class. 11. Turn off the printer then, turn the printer over so the back of the printer is facing away from you. (As described in step 2.) 12. In the space below the number, there will be two dip switches. Flip the #1 dip switch to the off position (up). 13. Turn the printer back over to the normal operating stance. 14. Turn the printer on. 12 P a g e

13 Connecting the Cash Drawer 1. Route the cable through the cable restraint bars on the rear of the terminal. 2. Connect the drawer cable to the drawer interface connector labeled DRW1 in the correct orientation. Caution! The drawer interface connector is exclusively for connecting the drawer. Do not connect a phone line or any other cables than the drawer cable to this connector. Doing so may cause a failure of the phone line and the terminal. 13 P a g e

14 Connecting the MCR Magnetic Card Reader 1. Remove the two (2) rubber plugs on the right edge of the touch screen. 2. Align the MCR unit to the terminal and tighten the two (2) screws supplied with the MCR. 3. Route the MCR cable along the slot designed on the touch screen unit. 14 P a g e

15 4. Tilt the touch screen panel up to view additional connection ports underneath. 5. Connect the cable into the RJ-45 connector on the bottom of the touch screen unit. 6. Additional USB ports can be used to connect keyboard and mouse if necessary. 15 P a g e

16 Connecting the Pole Display 1. Remove the back cover of the terminal as previously described. 2. Remove the top cover by unlatching the two catches located at the bottom of the top cover, then slide out before lifting the top cover up. This will reveal the Customer display port. 3. Connect the customer display cable by attaching the connector to the connector on the I/O PC Board. 16 P a g e

17 4. Snap the top cover (with customer display attached) into place. 5. After installation is complete replace port cover. 17 P a g e

18 Powering up the ST-A10 Terminal 1. Place the POS terminal on a level surface. 2. Provide a minimum space to the left, right, front and rear of the POS terminal for proper cooling. (The unit has air vents and a fan on the front and left. Space should be provided to prevent the air vents from being blocked and the airflow from being obstructed.) 3. Locate the terminal power switch on the lower right underside of the touch screen panel and press it once to power up the terminal. 18 P a g e

19 Toshiba OPOS CheckHealth Open the OPOS CheckHealth by going to Start then All Programs then OPOS CheckHealth. 1. Once the application is open Select the + to open the hive for the MSR, LineDisplay, CashDrawer and POSPrinter. 2. Highlight the MCRRMS under MSR and select Enter on your keyboard. (Optionally you can double-click on MCRRMS.) 3. Swipe a card through the MSR, you should receive the result as shown left. 4. Close the window. 5. Highlight the LIUST51 under LineDisplay and select Enter on your keyboard. (Optionally you can double-click on LIUST51.) 6. Select Indicates ANK Code (this should display alphanumeric characters on the customer display). 7. Select Indicates Discriptors (this should test the display for how it sends information from left to right). 8. Select OK to close the window. 19 P a g e

20 9. Highlight the DRWST under CashDrawer and select Enter on your keyboard. (Optionally you can double-click on DRWST.) Note: You will select DRWST only if the cash drawer cable was plugged into DRW1, as described earlier. 10. Select Drawer Open to test and see if the Drawer is working. 11. Select OK to close the window. 12. Highlight the TRSTA1U under POSPrinter and select Enter on your keyboard. (Optionally you can double-click on TRSTA1U.) 13. Select Print ASCII Code (this will print all the numbers and then letters in uppercase and the lower case). 14. Select Print H (this will print a line of H characters). 15. Select Bitmap (this will print a few bars on the receipt). 16. Select Dual Side Print (provided you have a printer that does the Dual side printing, this will print Front Side on the front of the receipt and Back Side on the back of the receipt). 17. Select Cut (this will cut the paper). 18. Select OK to close the window. 19. Select END on the TEC OPOS Interactive CheckHealth window. 20 P a g e

21 Hardware Configuration in CRE RPE TRST-A1X Thermal Receipt Printer 1. Open CRE/RPE. 2. Select the Manager or Options button. 3. Enter the administrator password (default: admin) where applicable. 4. Select [4] Setup [L] Friendly Printer Setup and reenter your password if necessary. 1. Select Receipt in the Select Friendly Printer list on the left. 2. Select the TRSTA1U in the Select local Windows printer list on the right. 3. Under Printer Type, OPOS (requires installation of OPOS driver) should be automatically selected. 4. Select Cut Receipt at this Station. 5. Select Print logo on receipts at this station then select the logo file you would like to print on receipts (if applicable). Note: The Pixel aspect ratio for the logo must be 1:3 (i.e. if the image has a 100px height then the width must be 300px). If the image you are using is not in that aspect ratio then it will be distorted. 6. Select Save & Exit. 21 P a g e

22 Pole Display and Cash Drawer Configuration 7. While at the Options/Manager screen select [4] Setup and then [G] Setup Screen. 8. Select COM4 for the Pole Display Port. 9. Select Toshiba for the Pole Display Type. 10. Under Cash Drawer select OPOS:DRWST for the Default Cash Drawer Port. 11. Select Update to save your changes. Note: If the test conducted earlier for the MSR using the OPOS CheckHealth Application was successful then no configuration should be required. 22 P a g e
