2 Statement of The Honorary Sponsor Over the past years, the State of Qatar has succeeded in consolidating its front-rank position on the global economy map, in line with the strategy set by His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani the Emir of the State of Qatar, to continue the path of realizing Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims at establishing a competitive and diversified knowledge-based economy. The wise economic policies of the State of Qatar have helped support the private sector in becoming an active partner in the national economy. In this context, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce was keen on activating its strategy to lead the country s sustainable economic growth in partnership with the private sector, within a fair and stimulating business environment. The Ministry has taken upon itself the mission of supporting the private sector through the development of advanced legislative and administrative mechanisms that reinforce the performance of companies operating in the country. The Ministry has also been keen to boost institutional practices that support the business continuity of companies and enable them to manage various risks associated with the changes taking place in the global economy. This emanates from our belief that Business Continuity and Risk Management programs represent a vital tool that supports the competitiveness of companies and promotes their presence in local markets, as well as help boost their contribution to Qatar s GDP and its march towards economic diversification. In this regard, we are looking forward to this Business Continuity conference organized by the BCI Qatar Forum and its partners and how it can highlight the advantages of adopting Business Continuity and Risk Management programs, hoping that its sessions will provide an opportunity to showcase the good practices in the field, with the aim of utilizing them towards establishing a strong private sector that is capable of actively participating in the national economy. 3 Statement of Qatari Businessmen Association (Strategic partner) Inspired by the country's wise leadership of HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani the Emir of the state of Qatar, the Qatari Businessmen Association has always been keen on supporting Qatari companies in being prepared for crises by urging them to adopt international standards, at the forefront of which is the establishment of effective risk management, business continuity and resilience programs. Undoubtedly, economic flexibility is highly dependent on the extent to which businesses adopt effective business continuity and resilience programs in their strategic plans. This work should be seen as one that requires collective effort by Qatar's business community to always consider the idea of institutionalizing these programs and making them an integral part of companies fabric in the Qatari market. We firmly believe that boosting economic capacity through private sector companies can be translated into enhancing the overall performance of the Qatari economy. Therefore, I am confident that through our participation for the second consecutive year in the Business Continuity and Resilience Conference, we have come a long way in the right direction. 4 Foreword by the Chairman of the BCI-Qatar Forum and Conference President (Professional Development partner) After stability and achievement, comes working to continue the success. Under the guidance of the country s wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, the country has overcome the crisis that beset the country in Since then, business continuity and resilience has gained an increasingly important role not only as a backbone for companies in Qatar assisting them in overcoming the blockade, but also to enabling them to adopt business continuity and resilience tools as per International standard specifications in order to boost those companies preparedness during disasters and crises of any kind, regardless of their specialization or field of operation. Companies in Qatar have shown their great willingness to leverage one another's expertise in this area and present recommendations that are poised to make Business Continuity and Resilience a mainstay at the strategic discussion table when planning for business. Emanating from its mission and as promised during the first conference held in November 2017 the Forum is organizing the 2 nd Business Continuity & Resilience Conference this year under the slogan Towards a Reliable/Steadfast Economy, under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed Bin Jassim Al Thani, Minister of Economy and Commerce, to converge visions among the corporate sectors in terms of the future of Business Continuity and Resilience and professionals in the field across Qatar, by providing a platform for communication between participants, as well as for addressing the most important issues that currently present themselves on the scene and their relationship to boosting confidence in the ability of the Qatari economy to prosper and grow in line with the Qatar National Vision The conference will also highlight the important role of Business Continuity and Resilience in injecting more confidence into investors and businessmen in Qatar and beyond. As well as, address how we can achieve cities resiliency and demonstrating the importance of being community resilient. The methodology adopted by the organizers this year presents a qualitative leap in the level and caliber of services the conference will provide to participants. In addition to offering a platform for communication and exchange of experiences among participants, this year's conference will include a wide range of Business Continuity and Resilience service providers through a dedicated exhibition. Furthermore, the Conference will host a number of specialized training courses for Business Continuity and Resilience professionals based on a real assessment of their training requirements through which trainees will obtain certifications that enrich their knowledge and capacities in planning, implementation, evaluation and follow-up, while accounting for their different levels of experience in the field, as well as the current state and challenges of Business Continuity and Resilience in Qatar. In parallel, the Conference will also honor a number of institutions and individuals with BCI Qatar Awards based on international standards under the BCI UK. The nominations will be evaluated by a panel of international Business Continuity and Resilience experts based on global standards of integrity and transparency. 5 About the Conference Under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, the Minister of Economy and Commerce, the 2 nd Business Continuity and Resilience Conference under the theme Towards a Reliable Economy will take place on Tuesday, 20th November, The conference is organized by Silah for Marketing and Exhibition with strategic partnership of Qatari Businessmen Association, Professional Development partnerships with Business Continuity Institute in UK (bci), bci Qatar Forum and Institute of Risk Management (irm) and Marketing and Media Partner with Dar Alarab. In its second edition, the Conference aspires to witness the participation of the largest number of experts and professionals in the field of business continuity, risk management, organizational resilience, disaster recovery and crisis management in Qatar, while seeking to exchange ideas, share experiences and gain knowledge on Challenges of integrating Business Continuity, Risk Management and Organizational Resilience as part of the Corporate Governance. A spotlight will be shed on the important role of business continuity and risk management and the importance of transforming to organizational resilience in supporting Qatar's economy, communities and cities and their ability to circumvent disasters and crises. During the conference, specialists will exchange information pertaining to emergencies and disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. The conference will also host a special exhibition, where consultancies, training centers, and service providers as well as universities can present their latest educational programs and consulting services in the fields of risk management, business continuity and organizational resilience. By the same token, the conference will further enhance the capacity building of Business Continuity and Resilience professionals through the integration of specialized training courses and classes. 4

6 Conference Objectives The 2 nd Business Continuity and Resilience Conference, held under the slogan Towards a Reliable Economy builds on the success of the first conference Business Continuity Stability and achievements, which witnessed the participation of a huge crowd of business owners and specialists in Business Continuity and Resilience, who represented more than 130 different companies and institutions operating in the State of Qatar. In collaboration with a number of partners, headed by the Qatari Businessmen Association as the strategic partner, bci UK, bci Qatar forum, and Institute of Risk Management (IRM) as Professional Development partners and Dar Alarab as the Marketing & Media Partner. The Organizing Committee will draw in a large number of relevant international experts, specialists and institutions, to deliver valuable Business Continuity and Resilience content that takes into account the challenges that businesses and communities face in implementing Business Continuity and Resilience programs. The conference leverages an internationally-acclaimed Business Continuity and Resilience brand name, through partnership with prestigious relevant international institutions, on top of which is the BCI and IRM that brings together an elite group of experts and specialists with global expertise. In accordance with the participatory methodology adopted by the Organizing Committee, the Conference will rely in its program, on topics and themes related to the recommendations of the participants of the first conference, which totaled 400 participants representing more than 130 public and private sector entities. 5

7 Conference Structure The highly anticipated event will include a conference, dedicated exhibition, Business Continuity and Resilience Awards, and number of training sessions as well as info-graphs and information exchanges where international experts in business continuity, risk management, disaster mitigation, preparedness and recovery will deliver key presentations that draw on their global expertise in the field. A participatory methodology will be utilized to share experiences and respond to participants' inquiries through a Chimney Talk format for the first time in Qatar. The Conference will also offer participants opportunities to connect with their peers and counterparts in various sectors such as business and trade, manufacturing, financial market, banking, ICT, oil and gas, energy, retail, construction and more. 6

Unlike the first conference, which was dedicated to showcasing current practices and success stories in the Qatari market, the 2nd edition of the conference will focus on integrating international best practices, and the role of Business Continuity and Resilience in building a reliable economy. The following two days of the conference will be dedicated to conducting specialized training courses for professionals in the Business Continuity and Resilience sector, presented by a group of international experts in the field. 11 The Chimney Talk Format/Mechanism This format/mechanism facilitates meetings in which we host senior administrative figures in the fields of Supply Chain, Resilient Economy and Cyber Security. These fields were selected according to the recommendations made by the participants of the first conference as areas that intersect with most business operations, and have gained significance following the GCC crisis in Participants will be able to meet influential decision makers in the aforementioned fields, ask them questions, and present suggestions and recommendations that can enhance Business Continuity and Resilience practices, in addition to getting answers directly from decision-makers. This presents a valuable and rare opportunity and is expected to benefit participants and decision makers alike. 2 ) The associated exhibition: he exhibition will host 12 to 15 exhibitors from various sectors, especially companies providing consultancy services, training centers and institutes and universities that offer specialized academic studies in Business Continuity, Resilience, and Risk Management. 12 3) BCI Qatar Awards: This year, the conference will present annual awards to outstanding corporations and individuals in the field of Business Continuity and Resilience to stimulate institutional and individual excellence according to transparent criteria and a clear mechanism for selecting the best applicants for the award. The applications will be submitted directly to BCI UK, and evaluated by BCI committee which encludes some of the best international experts. 13 4) Training Courses: During the discussions at the first conference, a strong need emerged to build the capacities of professionals in the field of Business Continuity and Resilience, risk management and its applications, especially in light of the changes and challenges facing the Qatari market in providing market needs, protecting information and preparing for the 2022 World Cup. In response to the participants requests, Silah for Marketing and Exhibition Management, is organizing a number of training courses, based on the results of the training requirements survey, which was developed by a number of international specialists. What sets these training courses apart from others is that they meet the training needs and requirements of the trainees and adopt evaluation standards and follow-up systems that ensure obtaining tangible benefits from the training outcomes, as well as practically contribute to building the capacities of the trainees. 12

14 About BCI-Qatar Forum The Business Continuity Institute-Qatar Forum (BCIQF) was established in 2014 as one of the 110 forums/chapters under the umbrella of the Business Continuity Institute in the United Kingdom. The Qatar Forum has become the national leading professional body for Business Continuity and Resilience.
