2 Conference Overview Forum Europe and Bellona Europa organised the exactly two months before the final negotiations on a post-kyoto regime began in Copenhagen. Taking place on the 6th October at the Sofitel Europe, the conference was a great success, bringing together high-level speakers from Industry, NGO s and the EU institutions. They were joined by over 150 international delegates in debating the role CCS should play in the future EU and global energy landscapes, and how CCS should be positioned at and following Copenhagen. Topics discussed at the conference included the funding options and the regulatory and legal obstacles that need to be overcome in order to further the implementation of CCS, the importance of public acceptance and confidence in CCS technology and the necessity of global cooperation and knowledge sharing in ensuring the engagement of other key global players in CCS. The opening keynote address was provided by Jan Panek, Head of Unit for Coal and Oil within the European Commission s energy directorate, kindly replacing European Commissioner for Energy, Andris Piebalgs who was called away on mission shortly before the conference, while other notable speakers included Chris Davies MEP, Luc de Marliave, Climate Change Coordinator, Total, Sanjeev Kumar ETS Coordinator, WWF and Lars Stromberg VP R&D, Vattenfall.
