1 Job description and person specification Senior ICT Officer Reports to: ICT Manager Purpose This role supports the provision of a high quality and measurable ICT infrastructure support service whilst delivering the yearly infrastructure improvement programme. A key area of responsibility includes ensuring the Disaster Recovery Plan is regularly tested and updated. The post holder will also be the ICT Champion for the retention of ISO Key Accountabilities ICT Operational Service Delivery Ensure that the VMWare environment and all operational systems are available during the contracted hours of , reporting any problems to the ICT Manager and respective support organisations. Ensure that all windows servers are patched and virus checked to the correct levels and that changes are made in line with ISO standards Ensure that the AIX environment and AXISe/Altair systems are available during the contracted hours of , reporting any problems to the ICT Manager and respective support organisations. Responsibility for all systems backups in line with the agreed tape cycle and that changes to the backup schedule and content are completed in line with ISO27001 standards. Work with external network providers to ensure that the network is performing effectively and any changes made in accordance with ISO standards. Responsible for ensuring that new and upgrades to servers, network and PBX hardware is installed correctly and efficiently and within agreed timescales and standards. Provide cover for the ICT officer for the setup and installation of desktop PC s, Printers and other hardware within agreed timescales. Ensure the security of the ICT Communications room is maintained and meets all health & Safety requirements. Page 1 of 5

2 Assist the ICT manager in the development and implementation of the 3 years ICT technology refresh to the infrastructure programme. Provide a 2 nd line diagnosis and support service to LPFA users and external users as required. Ensure the fault logging system is kept up to date and request/faults dealt with and completed promptly and effectively. Work with the ICT Manager to manage 3rd party vendor relationships and work activity to ensure it meets all LPFA standards. To communicate any new software releases or hardware changes to staff, and to provide support and guidance in implementing the appropriate changes. Work with ICT Systems Specialists to ensure the implementation of new releases of 3 rd party and in-house software is tested and implementation is in line with LPFA project management standards. Work with ICT Systems Specialists to ensure that all new releases are documented. Project Management & Support To work with ICT Manager to plan, deliver and report upon the yearly ICT infrastructure improvement programme and ad hoc changes which need to be implemented. Ensure all project work is completed in line with LPFA project methodology. Disaster Recovery (DR) / Business Continuity Planning (BCP) Day to day responsibility for the maintenance of the DR plan making sure that any system changes are reflected in the plan. Ensure that all systems required within the DR plan can be implemented within 48 hours of invocation. Work with ICT Manager to ensure that the DR plan plan is tested twice per year, and a report produced on the results provided to all agency clients. Work with the ICT to complete regular restores of backup tapes to test the validity of the process. Responsible for ensuring that the battle box has the correct media and documentation for DRP purposes. In conjunction with the ICT team and managers across the LPFA, ensure that the BC plan is reviewed on a regular basis and kept up to date. Ensure that all staff are kept up to date with changes to the BC plan. Keep up to date with new working practices and technologies which will help deliver the DR plan more easily and more effectively. Page 2 of 5

3 Attend user group meetings and participate in working parties. Quality Management & Development Work closely with the business change team quality analyst to ensure that:- Departmental champion for the quality certifications working on cross functional teams. Obtain and retain ISO information security certification. Work with other ICT team members to implement ITIL certification. Obtain FAST certifications moving the LPFA towards platinum certification. Any other certification that maybe applicable to the ICT infrastructure. To adopt a right first time approach to minimise errors and to produce high quality work leading the way in initiatives for on-going service improvement. Responsible for the accurate update and maintenance of the software and hardware asset registers. Under the direction of the ICT Manager, undertake the purchase of ICT goods and services ensuring we meet procurement requirements and best value. Research & Development Keep up to date with emerging technologies and to consider how the introduction of such technologies can help with continuous improvement and cost reduction. Undertake evaluation of technologies to establish the benefits for the LPFA. Assist the ICT Manager in implementing technologies which will reduce our carbon footprint and achieve greener IT. Other activities Work with external and internal audit to ensure that all recommendations are completed to agreed timescales. Attend any training courses and seminars to further develop competences. Experience of supporting a Windows 2003 (or later) environment. a. Support of Active Directory b. MS Exchange administration. c. Backup Exec, tape management system (or similar) d. Supporting servers running SQL server e. VMWare experience is desirable. f. Support and administration of Storage Attached Networked (SAN) solutions. Page 4 of 5

5 g. Local Area Networks (LANS) and Wide Area Networks (WAN) and HP switching technologies. h. Managing Cisco Firewalls is desirable. i. Supporting a Citrix or other remote working environment. j. Supporting PC s and printers/multi-functional devices in an XP/Windows 7 desktop environment. 2. Experience of supporting Avaya telephony systems is desirable. 3. An understanding of the ISO and BS frameworks 4. PRINCE2 qualified or working towards the PRINCE2 qualification desirable 5. Knowledge of ITIL desirable 6. Extensive experience in the use of Microsoft Office including MS Visio and MS Project 7. Experience of liaising with staff, employers, agency clients, contractors and external agencies.
