6 UNLV Data Warehouse A data warehouse transforms transactional data into decision support using ETLs: Extracting transactional data Transforming it into useful information Loading it into easily reportable structures

7 UNLV Data Warehouse Techniques Snap shot tables Same raw transactional data as the source table Populated nightly Effective dating logic built into snap shots There are reporting elements derived from one or more transactional elements using business logic to construct a single frequently used reporting element. Improves consistency, performance, and easy of use Allows point in time reporting
