2 Assignment 03 Review: Professionals don t make all 3 packages until they have all the info correct and in correct position on box. Make ONE finished box and once that is approved and finalized, create the other two based on what you already have done. ASSIGN 03: Due Thurs Sept 20 No class on Tues Sept Complete one JCoCo Chocolate box for your series. Place actual chocolate box text where it belongs on the box. You will be completing one of the series and will be able to complete the other two next week. 2. Include the Box text on the Package See attached Folder(JCoCo_AssignMaterial) To complete your first package in the series: You must use the JCoCo logo someplace in a dominant way. It doesn t have to be large if your design doesn t allow for that, but it must be dominant on the front. Use the correct type style. JCoCo corporate style for package text is Sans Serif. Look Try to stick with a Regular/Book font and a Bold one. This means Ariel, Helvetica, Avenir, Geneva, Avant Garde, Gill Sans, etc. Assignment Reading: Due Thurs Sept 27 Read the following from our textbook and take bullet point notes in your class design journal: Graphic Design: The New Basics pp (Hierarchy) Pay particular attention to package design artwork on pp 138 and 139!

4 Package template: Vertical or Horizontal templates for your finals included in JCoCoAssign_Material folder These are actual size. Design into them.

5 The name of your series will go on the front! What MUST go on the J CoCo package> front Text on Package Your flavor (please do not copy this flavor) all natural three-1oz bars net wt. 3 oz. (85g) Text is Sans Serif. Text on package is generally in all lower case. Please note and follow. Remember: The logo does not have to be this large, but it does have to be on the front someplace. Enclosed see a logo folder. You may use either as a white logo or use it in color.

9 JCoCo Chocolate Final Package Checklist: What everyone must check to complete this project: r LOGO Usage The logo can not be altered in any way. It must look exactly like the file you are getting it from. MAKE SURE THE LOGO IS NOT DISTORTED (SQUASHED IN ANY WAY) Don t outline the logo. Preferred logo colors are white, black, or the bronze color that they use now. r TEXT The font you use for text on the package must look as close as possible to the one that JCoCo uses now. The JCoCo font uses all lower case as a corporate style. They Don t Have Text That Looks Like This. Use a sans serif font. r Make sure you have not CONDENSED OR EXPANDED your text! r Ask your neighbor to PROOFREAD your text r NO TEXT goes closer than 1/8 to any edge r Make sure you can read all the text easily over colors or art. r USING COLOR Use colors that appear somewhere in your artwork or photographs...don t bring in colors that are not used anywhere else in your design. Colors should be connected and make sense visually.

10 1. Logo Usage The JCoCo logo itself needs to be shown on the front of the package. Not words that say JCoCo The logo can not be altered in any way. It must look exactly like the file you are getting it from. MAKE SURE THE LOGO IS NOT DISTORTED (SQUASHED IN ANY WAY) (Check back and forth from the original logo I gave you and the way it looks on your front cover) The logo can be small enough to fit inside this white box. Don t outline the logo. If you want to use the logo in a color, check with me. You may use the logo in white, black, or the bronze color that they use now.

11 2. Font for Text The font you use for text on the package must look as close as possible to the one that JCoCo uses now. The JCoCo font uses all lower case as a corporate style, not Capital letters. These fonts will look similar to their font. Avant Garde all lower case Helvetica all lower case Ariel all lower case Avenir all lower case (If you feel you have matched this perfectly, that s great.)

13 True Photoshop Scaling > Proportion is EVERYTHING!!! Professionals NEVER make this mistake so don t make it either! CORRECT PROPORTION Every time you scale a photo (up or down) in Photoshop, you MUST HOLD DOWN THE SHIFT KEY! Keep the original integrity of the photograph at all times. INCORRECT PROPORTION incorrect vertically. Horizontal and vertical are not the same. INCORRECT PROPORTION incorrect horizontally. Horizontal and vertical are not the same.

14 3. Text Accuracy Have someone else proofread your text. Misspelling makes your work look bad. almonds in dark chcolate

18 ASSIGN 04: Due Thurs Sept 27 Complete all three flavors to your new Chocolate series packaging for J CoCo. We will continue to spend time next week with this part of the project and in final completion of the project. Once you have completed all 3 packages: a. Place 3 package covers in a Presentation environment. You may use one of the background samples from Chocolate- PackPortfolio folder on our site or create your own shadows and 3D look. b. Create a Facebook Banner for this chocolate series page. Use the JCoCo logo as the profile pic. c.
