This is the directory where TrasferMaager place the icomig trasfers. This must be a valid media files directory. Click Browse to locate a valid directory. The default directories are: I OMF mode - OMFI MediaFiles I AAF mode - Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1 For better performace whe media files grow beyod 10,000 files i the primary directory \1, you eed to chage the Directory for icomig trasfers to Avid MediaFiles\MXF\2. 7 Features Added i Versio 2.9.x TrasferMaager MXF OP1a FTP DHM Overview To eable iteroperability betwee Avid Uity family ad third-party devices that use the MXF OP1a file format, Avid has developed a optioal Avid Uity TrasferMaager Data Hadlig Module (DHM) plug-i that supports FTP itegratio to third-party MXF OP1a compliat devices. The TrasferMaager MXF OP1a FTP DHM allows MXF OP1a files to be brought ito a Avid Uity, Avid Uity ISIS, or a Avid editig eviromet from a FTP server. You ca also export Avid media files i MXF OP1a format to a FTP server usig this same MXF OP1a FTP DHM. The Avid FTP Media Browser applicatio allows you to browse the cotets of a FTP server to select the MXF OP1a files that you wat to import ito the Avid system. The MXF OP1a FTP DHM rewraps the imported files i either OMF format (OMF workgroup) or Avid MXF-OP-Atom format (MXF/AAF workgroup). The MXF OP1a FTP DHM supports IMX 30, 40, 50, DV25, ad DV50 i PAL ad NTSC. The media format is ot chaged durig the import process, just the metadata wrapper. Supported audio is 16-bit or 24-bit sampled at 48 khz with up to 8 audio tracks. The MXF OP1a FTP DHM also supports the export of Avid IMX 30, 40, 50, DV25, ad DV50 media to a FTP server i MXF OP1a format. The TrasferMaager MXF OP1a FTP DHM was writte to support MXF OP1a files that match the MXF OP1a referece stadard. Because some vedors implemet MXF OP1a support i a way that deviates from the referece stadard, Avid caot guaratee support for devices that do ot comply with the referece stadard. I additio, Play While Trasfer, Overwrite, Frame-Chase Editig, ad partial trasfer capabilities are ot supported with the MXF OP1a FTP DHM. Trasferrig To ad From Geeric FTP Servers TrasferMaager supports igest from ad playback to File Trasfer Protocol (FTP) servers that are compliat with FTP. You ca trasfer completed media sequeces betwee Avid editig applicatios ad geeric FTP type servers. The FTP trasfer of media is over stadard TCP/IP Etheret etwork. The FTP DHM supports coectios to a FTP server usig a valid DNS ame or IP address. The FTP DHM ca work with FTP servers o differet subets tha the TrasferMaager server. Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 must be istalled o the TrasferMaager server ad TrasferMaager cliet systems whe you are usig FTP DHM. You ca istall.net Framework durig the TrasferMaager istallatio. 7

8 Durig the trasfer, the FTP DHM compoet supports the Ru, Pause, Resume, Retry, ad Cacel fuctios that are available from the TrasferMaager server. Pause ad Resume fuctios are costraied by the time-out settig o the FTP server. The compoets support multi-threaded operatios that allow for simultaeous trasfer operatios to occur. If you cacel a trasfer before it is complete, the part of the trasfer that succeeded before the cacellatio remais o the server. You must do the followig to itegrate a FTP server ito a workgroup: Select TrasferMaager Server with Supplemetal FTP Services as the istallatio type whe istallig the TrasferMaager server applicatio. Cofigurig the FTP Parameters for a FTP Server Whe addig a FTP server to your workgroup eviromet, you eed to cofigure the server s FTP parameters. To cofigure FTP servers i a workgroup: 1. O your TrasferMaager server, click the Start butto, ad select Programs > Avid > TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio. The TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio widow opes. 8

Cofigurig a Geeric FTP Playback Device ito a Workgroup Whe addig a Geeric FTP playback device ito your workgroup eviromet, you eed to cofigure the device usig the TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio tool. To add a geeric FTP playback device ito a workgroup: 1. O your TrasferMaager server, click the Start butto, ad select Programs > Avid > TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio. The TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio widow opes. 2. I the Playback area, click Add. 3. I the Device dialog box, type the ame associated with the Geeric FTP playback device o the etwork, for example: bdctm1:6534/aythig, where - bdctm1 is the TrasferMaager server ame is the Geeric FTP port address for the playback device The port umber used for the playback device must match the Geeric FTP Port umber o the Cofigure FTP dialog box. To add a Geeric FTP igest device ito a workgroup: 1. O your TrasferMaager server, click the Start butto, ad the select Programs > Avid > TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio. The TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio widow opes. 2. I the Igest area, click Add. 3. I the Device dialog box, type the ame of the FTP profile that cotais the iformatio required to coect to a particular directory o a FTP server. See Creatig ad Editig FTP Directory Profiles o page Click OK. 5. Click Save. Creatig ad Editig FTP Directory Profiles Whe a workgroup icludes a FTP server, you eed to create FTP directory profiles that allow the FTP server to coect with the Avid editig system. To create ad edit FTP server profiles: 1. From the Avid editig system, click the Start butto, ad the select All Programs > Avid > Utilities > Avid FTP Media Browser. 12

This FTP host ame must match the server ame assiged durig the cofiguratio of the FTP parameter. See Cofigurig the FTP Parameters for a FTP Server o page 8. Type your user ame. Type the FTP server s password. Displays the default directory where the source media is located o the FTP server. Displays the FTP mode as Passive. 5. (Optio) Click Test Coectio, if you wat to verify that the coectio to the FTP directory is workig. 6. Click Save. Workflow: Igestig Clips From a FTP Server Durig a igest, compressed frames are streamed from MXF OP1a files stored o a geeric FTP server to the Avid editig system. Files igested do ot overwrite a already existig file. If a file already exists, a ew file is created. The audio or video format of the media is maitaied durig the igest process. Therefore, there is o visible or measurable distortio of either video or audio as a result of the trasfer process. To igest media from a FTP server: 1. Make sure the FTP server is properly coected ad cofigured; see the documetatio that came with your server. 2. Ope a bi or create a ew bi ad positio it i a uobstructed area. 3. From the Avid editig system, click the Start butto, ad the select All Programs > Avid > Utilities > Avid FTP Media Browser. 15

16 The Avid - FTP Media Browser opes. 4. Select a Profile from the Profile meu for the FTP directory where you wat to access the media files. The status bar at the bottom of the Avid - FTP Media Browser widow displays the hostame ad directory path for the curretly selected profile. Whe the coectio is complete, a list of files i the FTP directory displays i the Media List. You ca click Update to recoect to the FTP server. 6. (Optio) Sort the files listed i the Media List by ame, modificatio date, or size. 7. (Optio) Click Update to refresh the list of files i the Media List. 8. Select the files i the Media List that you wat to trasfer to a bi. 9. Click Add to trasfer the selected files to the File Drag/Drop Support list. 10. (Optio) Click Remove to move a selected file from the File Drag/Drop Support list back to the Media List. 11. Select the files i the File Drag/Drop Support list ad drag them to the Avid editig applicatio bi to begi the trasfer process. A dialog box opes askig if you wat to trasfer the files ow or defer the process to a later time. 12. 18 Workflow: Playback to a FTP Server Durig a playback operatio, media associated with a sequece from a Avid editig applicatio is trasferred to a FTP server. The media format i the Avid eviromet is either MXF/AAF or OMF/OMF. The format of the data trasferred to the FTP server is MXF OP1a format. However, the audio ad video quality remais the same as the ative Avid media. There is o visible or measurable distortio of either the video or audio as a result of the trasfer process, ad the trasfer preserves the origial media format (DV or IMX). The ame i the Tape ID field of the sequece is used as the ame for the file created o the FTP server durig a playback. To playback a sequece to a FTP server: 1. Make sure the FTP server is properly coected ad cofigured; see the documetatio that came with your server. 2. Make sure the TrasferMaager Server with Supplemetal FTP Services settig was selected as the istallatio type durig the istallatio of the TrasferMaager server applicatio. See Istallig the TrasferMaager Server Software o page Make sure the TrasferMaager server is cofigured with the FTP server ad FTP playback device. See Cofigurig a FTP Server, FTP Playback, ad FTP Igest Devices o page O the Avid editig system, select the sequece you wat to playback. 5. Select Trasfer > Sed to Playback > Geeric FTP playback device. Geeric FTP playback device is the device you added to the TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio tool. 19 Features Added i Versio 2.9.x Igestig From FTP Deck Devices TM-DHM is Avid s API to itegrate with third-party video server vedors. Avid has writte its ow itegratio to the DHM API for the Soy e-vtr ad XDCAM deck devices. The itegratio supports MXF files by rewrappig them i either OMF (OMF workgroup) or AAF (MXF workgroup) as they are brought ito Avid Uity shared storage through the TrasferMaager server. The itegratio supports IMX 30, 40, 50, ad DVCAM i PAL ad NTSC. Ulike other DHM implemetatios, this does ot eable users to Sed to Playback, which would have allowed iitiatig requests from the editor that was writig to the decks. The followig cofiguratio ad setup steps are required to itegrate a FTP device ito a workgroup: Select TrasferMaager Server with Supplemetal FTP Services as the istallatio type whe istallig the TrasferMaager server. See Istallig the TrasferMaager Server Software o page 36. Add the igest device to the TrasferMaager cofiguratio. See Addig FTP Igest Devices ito a TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio o page 20. 20 Addig FTP Igest Devices ito a TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio Whe cofigurig a FTP igest device ito your workgroup eviromet, you eed to add the device to the TrasferMaager server cofiguratio. To add a FTP igest device to your TrasferMaager server cofiguratio: 1. O the TrasferMaager server, click the Start butto, ad the select Programs > Avid > TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio. The TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio widow opes. 2. I the Igest area, click Add. 3. I the Device dialog box, type the ame associated with the igest device o the etwork, for example evtr_wu, ad the click OK. 4. Make sure the Workgroup Settigs are set correctly. See the table i Istallig the TrasferMaager Server Software o page Click Save. 20

To set up a coectio to igest from FTP devices, such as a Soy e-vtr: 1. From the Avid editig system, click the Start butto, ad the select All Programs > Avid > Utilities > FTPClipList. The FTPClipList dialog box opes. 2. Click Cofigure. The Coectio Settigs dialog box opes. 21

Your selectio must match the set rate of the device. Select PAL or NTSC. Your selectio must match the settig of the device. Audio Tracks Select the umber of audio tracks you wat to igest (2, 4, 6, or 8). 4. Click OK. Igestig Clips From FTP Devices To igest clips from a FTP device: 1. From the Avid editig system, set the coectio settigs for the device. See Settig Up for Igest Device Coectio o page Ope a bi or create a ew bi ad positio it i a uobstructed area. 3. (Optio) Ope the Trasfer Status widow by selectig Trasfer > Status. 4. From the Start butto, select All Programs > Avid > Utilities > FTPClipList. 22

Do oe of the followig: t Click Now to begi the igest trasfer. t Click Later to defer the trasfer to a later time. Workflow: Igestig Clips From a e-vtr Device 1. Make sure the e-vtr device is properly coected ad cofigured; see the documetatio that came with your device. Set the followig: - Sigal stadard - NTSC or PAL - Bit rate - IMX or DVCam - Network settigs - IP address, etwork mask, default Gateway 2. Make sure the TrasferMaager Server with Supplemetal FTP Services settig was selected as the istallatio type durig the istallatio of the TrasferMaager server applicatio. See Istallig the TrasferMaager Server Software o page

24 3. Make sure the TrasferMaager server is cofigured with the e-vtr device: a. O your TrasferMaager server, click the Start butto, ad the select Programs > Avid > TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio. The TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio widow opes. b. I the Igest area, click Add. c. I the Device dialog box, type the ame associated with the e-vtr device o the etwork, for example evtr_wu, ad the click OK. d. Make sure the Workgroup Settigs are set correctly. See the table i Istallig the TrasferMaager Server Software o page 36. e. Click Save. 4. Make sure the e-vtr device is cofigured i the e-vtr Maager applicatio. 43 Workig with Rudows Workig with Rudows I a broadcast eviromet, you ca eable the TrasferMaager schedulig feature to allow iteractio with the Newsroom Computer System (NRCS). You ca select the files to sed to playback, ad the schedule list from the NRCS determies the order i which the files are played back. To use the TrasferMaager with rudows: 1. O your TrasferMaager server computer, click the Start butto, ad select Programs > Avid > TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio. The TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio widow opes. 2. I the Playlist Iformatio area, select Use Newsroom rudows to schedule trasfers. 3. Type the computer ame of the Newsroom Server. 4. Type the user ame ad password. 5. If you kow the ame of the schedule file, type it i the Schedule File Name text box. The schedule file specifies which rudows to use at which time. See Creatig a Rudow Schedule File o page Click Save. 7. Restart the TrasferMaager server. Click the Start butto, ad select Programs > Avid > TrasferMaager Server. (Ay time the cofiguratio iformatio chages, you must restart the server.) 8. O your Avid editig system, ope the bi that cotais the sequeces you wat to sed. 9. Select the sequeces. 10. Select Trasfer > Sed To Playback. 11. Select the available playback device to which you wat to sed the sequece. The Sed to Playback dialog box opes. 12. Click OK. The sequeces play back based upo the order i which they appear i the NRCS rudow list. If you set oe of the sequeces to high priority by clickig the circle i the PWT colum ext to the sequece, that sequece has priority over the rudow list. 43

44 Creatig a Rudow Schedule File A rudow schedule file tells the TrasferMaager server which rudow to schedule at what time. The format is the time to start moitorig the rudow followed by the ame of the rudow. See Upgradig from Previous TrasferMaager Releases o page 33. To istall the TrasferMaager cliet software o a MediaMaager server: 1. Isert the TrasferMaager CD i the MediaMaager server s CD-ROM drive. 2. Click ReadMe/Browse Media to ope the ReadMe file. Read the ReadMe file for importat iformatio about the TrasferMaager, the retur to the istallatio froted widow. 3. Click Istall Products. 4. Click Istall TrasferMaager Cliet. 5. I the Welcome widow, click Next. 6. Click the applicable coutry, ad click Next. 7. Click Yes to accept the licese agreemet. 8. At the Select the Istallatio dialog box, select TrasferMaager Cliet o MediaMaager Server, ad click Next. 9. Click Next to accept the locatio for the applicatio. A message box opes. 10. Click Yes to ope the TrasferMaager Cliet Cofiguratio tool. This tool allows you to moitor the TrasferMaager servers i the workgroup. 45
