Automatic trasferrig of assets to aother workgroup usig the AutoTrasfer service I Avid Iterplay Access, a admiistrator or user with admiistrator privileges ca create a AutoTrasfer folder by addig a Trasfer Preset to a folder. Ay assets placed i a AutoTrasfer folder are automatically trasferred usig the parameters defied by the Trasfer Preset. For more iformatio, see Automatic Trasfer Checklist sectio i the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Setup ad User s Guide. The FTP Server dialog box, used durig the cofiguratio of a FTP server optios, has a ew optio: Playback Format. This optio is for a future release. Do ot set this optio. Avid MediaStream is supported for sed to playback by selectig the MEDIA_STREAM_PROFILE for the FTP optios. Avid Thuder is supported for sed to playback by selectig GENERIC_FTP_PROFILE for the FTP optios. Avid MediaStream ad Avid Thuder ative igest is ot supported. 5 Workflow Ehacemets with Soy XDCAM SD ad XDCAM HD Workflow Ehacemets with Soy XDCAM SD ad XDCAM HD You ca use your Avid editig applicatio to import XDCAM SD ad HD material. You ca also use the Avid editig applicatio to export (write back) your fiished sequece back to the XDCAM device. I a Iterplay eviromet, you ca also use Iterplay Trasfer ad the FTPClipList applicatio to capture media from a XDCAM SD ad XDCAM HD camera or deck ad sed the material to shared storage. The backgroud trasfer capability offloads processor-itesive trasfers from a Avid editig system. Whe importig XDCAM SD ad XDCAM HD media the master clips are automatically checked ito the Iterplay database. XDCAM devices ca oly trasfer oe file at a time. Whe capturig media from a XDCAM device usig FTP, 24 bit audio files are captured to the Avid editig system as 16 bit audio files. FTP capture of XDCAM HD 24p is ot supported. Use the Firewire capture method. For details, search for Coectig the XDCAM Device i the Help for your Avid editig applicatio. You ca use Iterplay Trasfer to write back XDCAM SD material. For write back of XDCAM HD use the Export XDCAM feature i the Avid editig applicatio. Whe settig up a XDCAM device for FTP write back (Sed to Playback), set the XDCAM device to 16x8 mode (16 bit / 8 chael). The 24x4 mode (24 bit / 4 chaels) is ot supported for FTP write back. 6 Playig Back to Soy XDCAM SD Device The cofiguratio procedures for play back to a XDCAM SD device are described i the Cofiguratio Capture ad Play Back of MXF DHM OPIa File Formats sectio of the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Setup ad User s Guide. The procedures i that sectio are geeric for all supported devices. Whe you cofigure a XDCAM SD device some settigs i the procedures require specific iformatio. The followig sectios provide iformatio about the specific XDCAM SD settigs. Whe settig up a XDCAM device for FTP write back (Sed to Playback), set the XDCAM device to 16x8 mode (16 bit / 8 chael). The 24x4 mode (24 bit / 4 chaels) is ot supported for FTP write back. Creatig a Profile Whe addig a profile for XDCAM SD set the optios i the FTP Server dialog box as follows: FTP Server dialog box Settigs Profile Name Server Name Userame Password Server Type Playback Format Descriptio Type a ame for the profile The ame you assig to the profile appears i the FTP Media Browser ad Sed to Playback list. Type the ame of the FTP server; device IP address, device DNS Name. admi You must use this userame. Type the model ame of the XDCAM device. For example, PWD Select Soy_XDCAM_PROFILE. ot used - for a future release of Iterplay Trasfer FTP Coectio Iformatio Default Directory FTP Mode Displays the directory o the FTP server where data is set to or retrieved from. Displays the FTP mode as active. FTP Port Address Type the FTP coectio port. The default is 21. 6

Chages to The FTPClipList Dialog Box The followig chages were added to the FTPClipList dialog box for capturig XDCAM HD clips from FTP devices. I the Select Device meu, select XDCAM HD. I the XDCAM will sed area, there are two optios: - Clips - select to capture the high-resolutio of the selected clips - Proxy AV - select to capture the low-resolutio of the selected clips 7

9 Supported Cofiguratios Supported Cofiguratios This versio of Avid Iterplay Trasfer supports the followig cofiguratios: A dedicated Iterplay Trasfer server coected to a Avid Uity MediaNetwork, Avid Uity LANshare, or Avid Uity ISIS that icludes a Avid Iterplay Server. - Avid Uity MediaNetwork ad Avid Uity LANshare cofiguratios require a sigle chael ATTO 3300 Fibre Chael host adapter card. - Avid Uity ISIS cofiguratio requires a Itel PRO/1000 MF or MT card i Iterplay Trasfer server. Stadaloe Iterplay Trasfer software istalled o a Avid editig system (Microsoft Widows XP operatig system oly) that is coected to a Avid Uity LANshare without a Avid Iterplay Egie (ot Avid Uity MediaNetwork or Avid Uity ISIS). Each etworked cliet must istall both the Iterplay Trasfer Egie software ad the Iterplay Trasfer cliet software. Stadaloe Iterplay Trasfer is ot supported o Avid inews Istict systems. The ATTO card is optioal. It is required for coectio to Uity LANshare or Uity Media Network, but ot required for Avid Uity ISIS. The Avid Uity ISIS system requires a Itel PRO/1000 MF or MT card. To allow a Avid editig applicatio, such as Avid NewsCutter, access to the Iterplay Trasfer Egies, you must register the Iterplay Trasfer Egies usig the Avid editig applicatio s Trasfer Settigs. You ca access Iterplay Trasfer Egies from the Avid Iterplay Assist ad Avid inews Istict products whe the Iterplay Trasfer Egies are registered usig the Iterplay Trasfer Settigs i the Iterplay Admiistrator. Documetatio Chage The Avid Iterplay Trasfer Setup ad User s Guide metios istallig the Avid Iterplay Adapter o the Iterplay Egie. You should follow the guidelies i the Avid Iterplay ReadMe to determie the best locatio for the Avid Iterplay Adapter for your workgroup cofiguratio. 12 Iteratioal Character Support Iterplay icludes iteratioal character support (ICS). ICS allows you to display ad iput characters i laguages other tha Eglish. Viewig User Guides o the Iterplay Portal You ca quickly access the Iterplay user guides from ay system i the Iterplay eviromet. To access the Iterplay user guides: 1. 13 Limitatios Limitatios Sed to Playback usig MediaStream: Whe sedig log, complex sequeces with third-party effects to Media Stream, the Avid editig system occasioally displays the followig error message i the Trasfer Status widow: Uable to Sed to Playback. The server is ot respodig. I most cases the trasfer is successful. The system displays the correct status i the Iterplay Trasfer Status widow that is available i Iterplay Access ad i the Iterplay Admiistratio tool. Workaroud: Perform a video mixdow o the portio of the sequece that cotais the third party effects. Depedig o the umber of Media Stream trasfers performed by Iterplay Trasfer, the playback.txt log file might become large ad uusable. Workaroud: Remove the C:\Program Files\Avid\Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie\MssTMlog\playback.txt file oce a week to prevet it from growig too large. Whe sedig a sequece to a XDCAM device usig FTP writeback, DVCAM requires 1-to-1 audio ad your sequece must cotai 4 audio tracks. Set the editig applicatio's Trasfer Settigs, Output Audio Mix optio to "Direct chael output." Whe you sed media to playback, the Sed to Playback dialog box lists two separate bit depth settigs: the Target Audio Resolutio Bit Depth i the Relik Settigs (Iput) area, ad the Bit Depth i the Audio Mix Settigs (Output) area. The Relik Settigs idicate the audio bit depth of your target resolutio as set i the Iterplay Admiistrator. The Audio Mix Settigs match the bit depth settigs of your playback device. Sice the audio bit depth used by your media must match the bit depth settigs of your playback device, your audio bit depth might be coverted twice durig the sed-to-playback operatio, first to the bit depth of your target resolutio ad the to the bit depth of your playback device. For additioal limitatios ad iformatio o Sedig to Playback, search for playback i this ReadMe ad i the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Setup ad User s Guide. 14 Whe a workgroup to workgroup trasfer is paused durig the trasfer, the trasfer status for the receivig Iterplay Trasfer is ot updated. The status icorrectly displays the trasfer as ruig. If you select a o P2 master clip ad the select File > Import P2 > Media, the clip will become off lie. To brig the clip back olie, perform a check out of the clip from the Iterplay widow. By default, the Iterplay Trasfer FTP server settigs use port 6536 for the Soy FTP Service. If ecessary, you ca select aother port for the Soy FTP service usig the Soy FTP Port settig o the Cofigure FTP dialog box. If you chage the Soy FTP Port settig, you eed to reboot the Iterplay Trasfer Egie to esure that all services restart. The Iterplay Trasfer Egie ad the Soy FTP Service reads this port from the registry. Sequeces that you Sed to Playback may cotai filler i the audio track after the system reders the audio. You may also ecouter errors whe you reach the Checki portio of the Sed to Playback operatio. Workaroud: Reder all effects before performig a Sed to Playback operatio. I a Avid editig applicatio, if you have a sequece that you have t checked ito the Iterplay Widow ad you try to use the Trasfer > Sed to Workgroup commad, you might experiece a error. Workaroud: Check the sequece ito the Iterplay Widow before you attempt to trasfer it. I a cofiguratio where CaptureMaager v4.0 will cotrol AirSpeeds, you eed to istall Iterplay Trasfer Cliet o the CaptureMaager server. For istallatio procedures, see Avid Iterplay Software Istallatio ad Cofiguratio Guide. If you select multiple items to trasfer to aother workgroup, the system might perform more trasfers tha you expect. For example, if you select three clips ad each has two resolutios olie, the system will perform 6 trasfers, oe for each resolutio. Workaroud: Use the resolutio bi colums i the Avid editig applicatio so you ca tell how may resolutios are olie for clips that you wat to trasfer. The you ca select all of the clips that you wat to trasfer at a particular set of resolutios. Whe you trasfer multiple clips i this way, the system displays a dialog box that allows you to choose the resolutios that you wat to trasfer. If you have performed a lot of trascode or redigitize operatios, there might be a large umber of resolutios associated with a particular master clip. 14

15 Limitatios Frame Chase Editig - You caot perform a Sed to Playback operatio while capturig from Avid AirSPACE. Workaroud: Wait util the capture is complete ad the do the Sed to Playback. Frame Chase Editig - The system returs a Disk Space Error if you attempt to perform a workgroup trasfer o a sequece that cotais a clip that is curretly beig captured. Workaroud: Wait util the system fiishes capturig the clip, ad the perform the workgroup trasfer operatio. Iterplay Trasfer automatically places a reservatio o assets that it seds to aother workgroup. Whe addig a igest device to the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio tool, the igest device ame you eter must match the ame assiged to the igest device. The device ame is case sesitive. The scavege attribute is ot set if the device ames do ot match. Playback device etries i the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio tool must list differet ames for multiple Dalet servers. For example, if you add the followig etries i the Playback device area: Server1/dalet Server2/dalet The Media Browse will oly fid the first Dalet server. If the first Dalet server is off lie Media Browse will ot fid the secod Dalet; Server2/dalet. To sed to multiple Dalet servers from Media Browse you eed to assig a differet ame for each Dalet. For example, Server1/dalet1 ad Server2/dalet2. Sedig audio-oly sequeces to a playback device is ot supported. Workaroud: Add a video track with filler to the sequece. Whe the host file is set up for mirrorig to two Thomso Grass Valley Group Profiles, sedig a clip to oe Profile automatically seds the clip to the other Profile. The clip is the same o both Profiles (mirrored). If you make chages to the clip ad resed it to the Profile usig the same clip ame ad click overwrite, the clip is successfully overwritte i the primary Profile, but ot i the secodary Profile. This results i havig two clips with the same ame but with differet cotets o two Profiles. Whe mirrorig to two Thomso Grass Valley Group Profiles, make sure the directory paths to the Profiles are correct. The directory paths must be idetical for mirrored seds to work properly. Workaroud: You ca sed to each Profile oe at a time. 15

16 Whe igestig from a Profile to a Avid editig cliet you caot cacel the trasfer. If you try to cacel the trasfer, you will eed to restart the Avid Iterplay Trasfer server applicatio to regai use of the igest sessio. Whe Max. simultaeous igest trasfer optio o the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio settigs dialog box is set to more tha 1, the oly the first igest i a multiple igest request will succeed. The other igest requests will retur with a error of device is busy. You eed to restart the trasfer usig the TM Status widow. This happes because FTP Deck Devices ca hadle oly oe FTP trasfers at a time. Workaroud: You ca set the Max. simultaeous igest trasfer optio o the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio settigs dialog box to 1, thereby multiple trasfer igests request will go ito a pedig state util the curret igest is doe. Retrieve from Nearchive fails whe the server ame ad workgroup ame are idetical. If both ames are idetical ad you attempt to drag a clip from the Nearchive user iterface to a bi, the trasfer fails with a type 5 error. Workaroud: Ope the Avid Iterplay Trasfer Egie Cofiguratio widow ad chage the workgroup ame to a ame that is differet from the server ame. The ope the Avid editig applicatio ad perform the trasfer agai. I a stadaloe eviromet, PMR files may still be lockig o occasio. You may otice this if ewly igested media is ot appearig olie. 1. Access the OMFI media folder, ad see if the PMR file is older tha the ewly igested media files. 2. If the PMR file is older, delete the PMR file to force a rebuild of the PMR file. Rebuildig the PMR file ca be a time-cosumig process. Make sure the PMR file is older tha the last igested media files before you delete the PMR file. Errors occur whe you attempt to trasfer sequeces that cotai usupported effects, usupported media, or usupported audio formats. This ca occur whe you have checked i a sequece from a editig system that supports certai features, ad the a editig system that does ot support those features checks out that sequece ad the attempts to sed the sequece to a playback device. I a stadaloe eviromet, whe you trasfer sequeces cotaiig AVX plug-is, reder the AVX plug-i effects before you trasfer the sequece. 16

17 Limitatios A trasactio might appear as Paused or Caceled whe it might still be trasferrig. This ca happe whe you click Cacel or Pause durig a trasactio that is i the Pedig state but that the Avid Iterplay Trasfer has already started the preparatios for trasfer. If a trasfer does get ito this state, it might cotiue to trasfer. Workaroud: Wait util the trasactio is i the Trasferrig state before cacelig or pausig it. A trasactio might appear as Paused or Caceled whe it might still be trasferrig. This ca happe whe you click Cacel or Pause durig a trasactio that is i the Pedig state but that the Iterplay Trasfer has already started the preparatios for trasfer. If a trasfer does get ito this state, it might cotiue to trasfer. Workaroud: Wait util the trasactio is i the Trasferrig state before cacelig or pausig it. I Iterplay Trasfer cofiguratio, the DET pull trasfer ad DET push trasfer fields show corrupt values. Add values to workgroup ames i Iterplay Trasfer cofiguratio ad click the save butto. A iformatio widow is displayed idicatig that the chages will be effective after restartig the Iterplay Trasfer server. The values show i the DET pull trasfer ad DET push trasfer are corrupted. This is a cosmetic bug ad does ot affect the values that get saved. Sequeces set to AirSPACE may play back with a extra frame added at the outpoit of cuts. Whe you digitize film-origiated (24fps) video i a NTSC eviromet, may frames will be pulldow frames that combie a field from the precedig frame with a field from the successive frame. If you have a edit i the timelie where the last frame of the edit is oe of the mixed-field frames, you may ed up with a output that is ot what you expect. You will ot see the secod field o the desktop display, so the trasitio across clips will be what you wat. However, whe the video is trasferred to AirSPACE, both fields will be visible, ad you may get a flash if the secod field comes from a frame that is very differet (light vs. dark, etc.) tha the precedig frame. Workaroud: If you cut video that was digitized from a film-origiated productio, avoid edig a segmet at a trasitio betwee scees. 17
