2 Procedure Before you can report international student information to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), you must complete two tasks: 1. Run the SEVIS Alerts process. 2. Select the SEVIS Events that you want to report. The SEVIS Alerts process scans the information in Campus Solutions and creates Events. A SEVIS Event is simply a change in student information that needs to be reported to the DHS. This tutorial will show you how to select the Events that you want to report to the DHS. You must run the SEVIS Alerts process before you can follow the steps in this tutorial. See the "Run the SEVIS Alerts Process" tutorial for more information. 1. Go to sis.illinoisstate.edu. 5 6. Select the visa type that you want to select Events for. If you want to select Events for J-visas, select the J-Alerts folder. In this example, we will select Events for F-visas. 7 9. A list of reportable SEVIS Events will appear. By default, you will see every Event that the SEVIS Alerts process automatically detected. In this example, there are seven students that need to be added to the DHS SEVIS system. In real life processing, there may be dozens of Events that need to be reported: from new students to changes in student personal information, enrollment, or dependent status. It may be useful in those situations to view only a subset of the total list of Events. To do so, click the Selection tab. 10. Use the search fields to restrict the Events that will display. For example, you can select Events for a particular student, Events with error messages, or Events that require additional data. For this this tutorial, click the Event Type drop-down menu. 9 13. You will be automatically taken back to the Alerts Header tab, and Campus Solutions will display only those Events that meet your selection criteria. You can view basic information about a student by clicking the link for the student's name. (Make sure that the pop-up blocker on your browser is turned off.) 10 14. A new tab will open in your browser that displays the student's basic biographic and demographic information. Click the Close (x) button to close the new tab. 15. 11 16. A new tab will open in your browser that displays the student's I-20 form (or DS form for J-visas). Click the Close (x) button to close the new tab. 17. Some Events require you to enter additional information about the Event before you can report it to the DHS SEVIS system. For example, if you are authorizing a student to drop below a full course load for a particular semester (an AuthDropBelowFC - Add Event), you must enter an authorization reason, such as Illness or Improper Course Level Placement. 12 18. Use the arrow buttons (Show next row and Show previous row) or the Find link to locate the Event that you need to enter additional information for. Alternately, you can click the Req'd Data link for the Event that you want to edit on the Alerts Header tab. That will take you directly to the relevant Event without needing to use the Find link. 19. Some Events may have error messages associated with them. To view those errors, click the Errors tab. 13 20. Use the arrow buttons (Show next row and Show previous row) or the Find link to locate the Event that you need to view errors for. Alternately, you can click the Errors link for the Event that you want to view on the Alerts Header tab. That will take you directly to the relevant Event without needing to use the Find link. 21. 14 22. Events that will be reported to the DHS SEVIS system will display SEVIS in the Send To drop-down menu. Click the Send To drop-down menu to change this. Page 14 Last changed on: 5/19/2015 2:38:00 PM

15 23. There are three options: Master, None, and SEVIS. Select Master to send the information to the Campus Solutions SEVIS Master table instead of the DHS SEVIS system. You would only do this if you know that you already reported the relevant information to SEVIS using the RTI system. 24. Select None to do nothing with the Event. By default, all Events with errors are set to None. You should resolve the error and then run the alerts process again. 16 25. You can set all of the Events to a particular status by clicking the links directly above the SEVIS Alert Events grid. Click the Set All Rows to None link. 26. Click the Send All Rows to Master link. Page 16 Last changed on: 5/19/2015 2:38:00 PM

18 28. There are some SEVIS Events that will never be created by Campus Solutions, such as Disciplinary, Dependent Reprint, and AuthDropBelowFC Cancel. You must create these Events manually. 19 30. Select the Event that you want to create. You will also need to select the person that you want to create the Event for, enter any required additional data, and select SEVIS in the Send To drop-down menu. 21 33. Once you have selected the Events that you want to report, you must export the Events to the DHS SEVIS system. See the "Export SEVIS Events to the Department of Homeland Security" tutorial for more information on that process.
