2 Meet Ms. Sharpe Cell: Office Hours: By Appointment Classroom Objective Focusing on providing a high-energy, technology classroom learning experience for my students while also allowing God to use me to teach my students and others about Him. Reaching Me The best way to contact me is often through . I usually respond to an within 24 hours during the week. If the class is on a fieldtrip, call or texting is preferred. Questions, Concerns, or Comments If you have any questions, concerns, or comments please and tell/ask me. Students are to get to the age of being more secretive in the classroom. While I do my best to have a safe classroom for my students, it takes teamwork with parents communicating with me if there is something going on in the classroom I am unaware of. If I do not know about situation or a concern I cannot fix it.

3 Attendance Policy Please make sure you have read the attendance policy in the HCS handbook. Once an from office is received stating an absence has been excused, the student will receive any missing assignments and be able to complete them. Any unexcused absence results in a zero for all assignments without the ability to make up the assignment until notice from the office that the absence is officially excused. If an absence is not excused, then a student will receive a zero for all assignments without the ability to redo or make up the assignment until the absence has been excused by the office. Remember only the office can excuse an absence not the teacher. Illness Policy Sickness spreads through a school quickly. If your student has a temperature of 99.5 degrees or above, he/she will be sent home to avoid spreading illness. Please do not bring your student to school unless he/she has been fever-free (and vomit-free) for 24 hours without the aid of medication. If a student becomes sick at school, the parent will be contacted to pick up the student as soon as possible. Food & Drink Policy No food is allowed in the classroom. If a student is caught with food in the classroom the food will be thrown out and it will be documented. If it happens a second time, then the student will receive a demerit. The only drink allowed in the classroom is water. This classroom does not allow soda, Gatorade or any other form of drink. Please review the HCS handbook which states students are not allowed to bring any caffeinated drinks onto campus. Gum is not allowed either in the classroom or on the playground. Redo Work I want to see my students succeed and understand the work they are doing. Should a student receives an 80% or lower on an assignment, they have the option to redo the assignment for full credit within a week of receiving the graded assignment back. If they choose to redo an assignment, it must be completely redone on a separate sheet of paper and turned in with the original. If the assignment is on the

4 computer, they need to let me know when they have redone an assignment by sending an . I If an is not sent I may not see the assignment they redid). Students are normally not allowed to retake a test. Missing and Late Work Missing work is over a week late will not be accepted or allowed to be redone. If an assignment is turned in late but less than a week late, five points will be deducted for turning in the assignment late. All work from the previous day must be turned in at the beginning of the day. If not received at the beginning of the day, but received later in the same day, three points are deducted for not turning it in on time. Once the school day is over, the assignment is considered missing and five points will be deducted for turning it in late. Some assignments that will not be accepted if they are turned in late. Students will be told when this applies to a specific assignment. No late or missing work may being redone for a better grade. ParentsWeb ParentsWeb is an online tool powered by RenWeb for parents, teachers and students. ParentsWeb allows teachers to post assignments and grades and inform students and parents about events. Students use ParentsWeb to get class assignments and check their progress in class. Parents use ParentsWeb to view activities their children are involved in, find detailed grade reports, look at assignments, and view attendance records. ParentsWeb makes it easier for parents to keep track of how their children are doing in school by containing all the information for one family within a single username and password. Grading Scale A 93% A- 90% B+ 88% B 83% B- 80% C+ 78% C 73% C- 70% D+ 68% D 63% D- 60% F Lesson than 60%

The teacher will sign the planner before the student goes home. When a student has completed their homework, students are expected to get their parent/guardians signature in their homework. Students will receive a grade for their homework planner which is part of their Bible Citizenship grade. Spelling and Vocabulary Each week students will have a spelling and vocabulary test. Each Friday students will receive spelling and vocabulary homework packets for the next week. Students are expected to complete these packets at home and ready to turn in the next Friday. Missing and late packets will not be accepted. If a student loses their homework packet they are responsible for printing out a new one. There are three places where spelling and vocabulary words may be found (include an extra copy of each week s homework packet).

6 1. In the weekly folder sent home on Friday. 2. Class website. Look for the appropriate grade level and you will find all of the years words and homework packets. 3. Google Classroom. Each student will join a spelling and vocabulary class. In this class is a copy of the current week s words and homework packet. It also has a link to Spelling City and to my class website. Spelling Tests occur on Thursday. Vocabulary Test occur on Friday. If a student is absent on those days, their absence must be excused by the office in order to take the test. If they have an unexcused absence, then they will receive a zero for the test. Cell Phones All student cellphones brought to school should be completely turned off and stored in the student s backpacks. Students are not to use their cell phone at all during the school day. If a teacher sees or hears the cell phone, it will be confiscated and HCS policy for cells phones applies. Electronic Device Policy Please make sure you have read the electronic device policy in the HCS handbook. The only electronics allowed in the classroom are those provided by the school. If there is an exception, students and parents will be notified beforehand. A number of assignments are completed on the computer using Google Classroom. Students will have a computer assigned to them to use. Students will be responsible for making sure their assigned computer is taken care of. Computer Rules 1. Only go to the websites approved by the teacher. 2. At the end of the day plug in your computer and make sure it is turned completely off. 3. Do not use your computer to communicate with other students throughout the day.

7 Penalty for Misusing a Computer First Offense: Stricter computer usages and the incident will be documented on RenWeb and an sent home to parents. Second Offense: Teacher and parents will have a meeting. Student will receive a demerit and not be allowed on the computer for either one or two weeks. Third Offense: Student will receive a demerit and will not be allowed on the computer for the remainder of the school year. Google Classroom for Parents As a parent/guardian, you may choose to receive summaries of how your child is doing with their Google classroom assignments. You may choose how often to receive s (for example daily or weekly). In the you will be able to see missing work, upcoming work and class activity. In order for this to happen, the teacher/school must have an actively used address for the parents (any address will work). The account the teacher puts in the system is the only account that will receive Google classroom summaries.

8 After your address has been entered in the system you will receive an invitation. You have 120 days to accept an invitation before it expires. When you have received the invitation: 1. Open the invitation. 2. Click Accept (if you re not the guardian, click I m Not the Guardian) 3. When you have accepted the invitation, you, your child, and the teacher will receive an confirmation. You will not receive an summary if: o There is no activity to report for the given time period. o The teacher turned off the notifications for their class. o You selected No Summaries for how often you d like to receive s. o You are not connected to any student in Classroom. Manage Summaries Create a Google Account to access summary settings To manage your summary settings, you need a free Google Account. You don t need a Gmail address to create an account. You can use your current address. 1. In your program, at the bottom of any summary, click Settings. (Figure 1) 2. On the settings page, click Create new Account. (Figure 2) 3. Fill in the requested Information and submit. The settings page will open. Figure 1 Figure 2 Manage summary settings To manage summary settings, you need a free Google Account. A Google Account allows you to: o Determine how often you receive s o Update your time zone o View all the students/children connected to your account

9 To manage your summary settings: 1. If you have not created a Google Account, created one (see steps above under Create a Google Account to access summary settings). 2. Sign into you Google Account. 3. In your program, at the bottom of any summary, click Settings. 4. On the settings page, click Sign In. 5. Enter you Google Account address and password then click Sign In. 6. Under Frequency, selected your desired frequency. If you don t want to receive s, select No Summaries. 7. Under Time zone, select your time zone. 8. (Optional) To check which address summaries are sent to, look under Google Classroom summaries. Unsubscribe from summaries You can unsubscribe from summaries at any time. As long as you have a free Google Account, you re still connected to your child.

10 At the bottom of any summary, click Unsubscribe. Warning: If you do not have a Google Account, this action removes you as a parent/guardian from your child.
