2 Family Connection Ursuline Academy is please to introduce Family Connection from Naviance, a web-based service designed especially for students and parents. Family Connection is a comprehensive website that you can use to help in making decisions about colleges and careers. Family Connection is linked with Naviance Succeed, a service that we use in our Guidance office to track and analyze data about college plans, so it provides up-to-date information that is specific to our school. 2

5 How is it accessed? Family Connection is on the Web Parent accounts Student accounts 5

7 Click on Naviance/Family Connection to go to the login screen 7

8 What can it do? Complete surveys Search and Compare colleges Develop a prospective college list Links to selected third-party resources Track deadlines Produce scattergrams Show schedule of college visits View Guidance news bulletins Provide access to scholarships 8

9 How do you register? Each parent and student receives a code Use code to create a personal account Codes are random and alphanumeric for security reasons Codes can be used only once On your first visit, enter the code in the New User box, then follow on-screen instructions On subsequent visits, sign in using the Returning User box 9

20 College Application Process through edocs If you are applying via the Common Application First, go to and set up your account Write down your Common App username and password Login to your Family Connection account and sign the Common App Wavier and enter your Common App username and password 20

21 Application Submission After you have submitted your application: Go to your Colleges I m Thinking About list Check the box next to the college where you applied Click the box at the bottom that says Move to Application List Choose the Application Type (RD, ED, EA, etc.) Check the box I Have Submitted My Application 21

22 Requesting Transcripts through edocs Click on Colleges I m Applying To If you have not done so already, sign the FERPA waiver Click Request Transcripts Check the box next to Add Request this will send the request to the Guidance Office account. You must come to the guidance office to complete the request form and pay your $2 for each transcript. When your transcripts have been sent, it will be marked as Sent so you will be able to keep track of your application materials (Remember to give the counselors 10 school days to submit transcripts and related materials) Check Add Unofficial Test Scores if you want to have them sent (Remember, all colleges now require you to also send your official test scores from the SAT and ACT companies 22

23 Requesting other transcripts If you need other transcripts (i.e. for scholarships, NCAA, etc ): Under the Colleges tab, on the left hand side, click Transcripts Click Request Transcripts for Scholarships and Athletics Complete the form Scroll to the bottom and click Add Transcript Requests 23

24 Requesting Teacher Recommendations through edocs Click on Colleges tab Click on Colleges I m Applying To Scroll down to Teacher Recommendations Click Add/Cancel Requests Go to Add New Requests Click the dropdown menu and choose the teacher(s) from the list Add any notes to the teacher in the box Click Update Requests this will send an to the teachers with your request and will add the request to the teacher s Naviance account. It will also record that you have requested it in your Family Connection account. When the teacher has completed the recommendation, they mark it as Completed and it will show in your Family Connection account so you can keep track of your application materials. 24
