4 Diagram View Let s Begin Open up Inspiration - Inspiration will open up in diagram view Type in your main idea (All About Me) Click outside of the main idea OR press Shift Enter Adding Ideas New Symbol Click back on your main idea Click on the Down arrow on the Create button A new symbol will appear connected to your main idea Type in your text (Family) Click on another direction on the Create button. Type a related idea (Career, Hobbies) This is what you ve created so far. 10/24/2012 Heidi K. Catlin 4
5 Rapid Fire tool Click on the Family symbol to select it. Click on the RapidFire button on the Diagram toolbar The RapidFire icon appears in the symbol to show you the tool is turned on. Type in your sub points then press Enter Type in a second point Click on the RapidFire icon to turn it off You can choose the RapidFire with or without links. Saving your work File -> Save As Your file will be saved as a.ins file o FamilyVacation.ins Viewing Subtopics and Arranging symbols Hide Subtopics Click on one of your main topics. A blue arrow will appear Click on that to hide/or show your subtopics Moving & Arranging symbols Move individual symbols Click on any of the symbols and drag it where you want to place it. 6 bottom toolbar Click anywhere on the diagram and drag it. Click on the Position button again to turn it off. Nudge Move a symbol or draw object up, down, left or right one pixel at a time. Changing Symbols If the symbol palette does not appear View Symbol Palette OR Press Ctrl +8 Searching for Symbols Type in a word in the search field Browse through the library. 7 Click on a symbol (All About Me) Click on any symbol in the symbol palette. The selected symbol takes on the new shape. Change more of your shapes. Adding Symbols with no links Make sure nothing is selected in your diagram. Point and click on a different symbol Click and drag in where you would like it to go Type in a label Adding Link Click on the Link button A link will appear Click on a Primary symbol Click on the secondary symbol A link will be created between the two. Click on the Link button to turn it off Adding text on the link Click on the link between two symbols An outline of a text box will appear Type in some text 10/24/2012 Heidi K. Catlin 7
8 Right click on the link to view more linking phrases Adding Notes Click on Note up on your tool bar. You can add a note about your topic. When you are done, click on the button in the upper most left of the note. When you click on this topic you will now see an icon that indicates that you have a note attached. Hyperlink Click on the hyperlink button to add a link to a topic. If you have a browser open you can also drag the URL to your Inspiration document. 9 Importing Pictures Choose a picture from you own file. Edit Insert Graphic Go to your files and locate a picture Inserting Video & Sound Inserting Video Select a topic Tools Insert video or sound Video Click on the video to play it. Recording Sound Select a topic to attach the recording to. Tools Insert video or sound Record Sound Click on Record to record the sound. Click on Save when you are done. 10 Word Guide Click on any of your topics Click on WordGuide It will automatically look up that word. It will give you Pronunciations definitions, synonyms antonyms It will also let you replace your original word with another. Formatting your symbols and text Trick! Hold the Shift key down while you select more than one object. OR Drag and select the items you want. This will allow you to change several at a time. 10/24/2012 Heidi K. Catlin 10
11 Arranging your Diagram Click on the Arrange icon Select a Diagram type o Tree o Web o Split Tree o More Click on Auto Arrange continuously arranges linked symbols as you work. More options in Arrange Outline View Click on Outline View icon at any time to see your diagram in outline form Click on the Diagram View icon to go back to the diagram 10/24/2012 Heidi K. Catlin 11
12 Editing your Outline The next to a topic indicates the topic has subtopics. Adding a Subtopic or Topic Click on a topic (Teacher) by clicking on the topic Click on the Subtopic button A new subtopic is created below the topic that you selected Type in your new subtopic (1 st grade) Adding a Topic Select the topic (click on your hobbies) Click on Add Topic Type in your new topic (Scrapbooking) Change the Level of a Topic Select the topic that you want to change Click on the Right or Left button on the toolbar Split Split a topic into two Position the text cursor between the topics that you want to split Click the Split button on the Main toolbar 10/24/2012 Heidi K. 13 Changing the Prefixes Click on the Prefix button Change to the choices shown. Transfer to Word Processor Click on the Transfer button. It will let you choose what you want to transfer. It will automatically open up your new Word document. It will also save it automatically to the same location that your Inspiration document is saved to. 10/24/2012 Heidi K. Catlin 13
14 Exporting Options Word Processor Export your diagram and /or outline to Microsoft Word PowerPoint Slides Export your outline to PowerPoint Web Pages Create a site skeleton (with a single page for each topic) or a Web Diagram. Graphics File Choose JPG or Giff Printing your outline or diagram File Print Preview To take a closer look, click on that you want magnified Click again to return to previewing the full page Click on Print Click OK when the Print dialog box appears Page Setup Choose Portrait or Landscape Print to 1 page or Scale Diagram Change Margins Add Header/Footer Editing Templates Open up a template by going to File Open Template Choose a subject area Choose a template Edit it to fit your needs Save it to your files. 10/24/2012 Heidi K.
