Instructions for Doppler Image Cropping code The following instructions are for cropping Doppler E-and A-waves and make it ready for PDF analysis (using LabVIEW). The program allows the user to mark time and velocity sample rates. User can mark individual E- and A-waves and the program calculates conventional parameters such as peak velocity and duration of flow. The program saves cropped images in a newly created folder in the current image folder and also saves a text file containing the measured and calculated parameters. The instructions on how to mark the images are displayed in the top right side of the user interface. This MATLAB program read in folder containing transmitral flow images in.bmp format. 1. Loading images: User can load all images in a folder by click on Find Folder With Images and select one of the images from the folder. Show Next Image button allows the user to scroll down the list. (To start with the first image, click on ImageFiles and then click Show Next Image ) Before start cropping E- and A-waves, mark TSR and VSR
2. Time and velocity sampling rate determinations: The program allows the user to mark time sample rate (TSR) and velocity sample rate (VSR). a. TSR: User can find the number of pixels in 1 second (it s not changeable) by marking two points that are separated by 1 second. To mark, click on TSR button, the cursor changes to crosshairs. Click to the lower left of the first time point. This will zoom in on the image. Next click on the time point. Then image zooms out. Click on the next time point (it should be 1 second after the first time point) in the same way. First, click on VSR button. First time point: Click on the lower left of the first time point. TSR button It will zoom in, click on the first time point.
Second time point: Click on the lower left of the second time point. It should be 1 second after the first time point. It will zoom in, click on the second time point. After finishing TSR, user will see: Calculated TSR
b. VSR: First set the unit of velocity being marked. This is done by selecting two points that are separated by the velocity being marked. The default is 1 m/s. 1 m/s can be changed manually by writing the number in the yellow box in front of VSR button. To mark, click on VSR button, the cursor changes to crosshairs. Click to the lower left of the zero velocity point. This will zoom in on the image. Next click on the zero velocity marking point. Then image zooms out. Click on the next velocity point (same velocity as shown in the yellow box) in the same way. First, click on VSR button. First velocity point: Click on the lower left of zero velocity. VSR button Yellow box to change the unit of velocity It will zoom in, click on the zero velocity marking point.
Second velocity point: Click on the lower left of the second velocity point. It should be same velocity as the one in the yellow box. In this example is 1 m/s. After finishing VSR, user will see: Calculated VSR
3. Mark a single image: Click on Mark Cropped HR Wave. The cursor changes to crosshairs. First user need to mark the left and right edges of data and also the position of sweeping black bar. a. Left edge: To mark the left edge, click to the lower left of the left edge of data. This will zoom in on the image. Next click on the left edge. Then image zooms out.
b. Black bar: To mark the middle of black bar (if there is) click to the left of the black bar. This will zoom in on the image. Next click on any point in the middle of the black bar. Then image zooms out. If there is no black bar on the image, user can click on the right edge.
c. Right edge: To mark the right edge, click to the lower left of the right edge of data. This will zoom in on the image. Next click on the right edge. Then image zooms out.
4. Mark left and right HR: After marking the left and right edges of data and middle of the black bar, the program automatically ask the user to mark the left and right heart rate (HR) to calculate the heart rate of that beat. User can mark R peaks (or any same points) on ECG of before and after the beat. To mark the R peak the beat before, click to the lower left of the R peak. This will zoom in on the image. Next click on the R peak. Then image zooms out.
To mark the next R peak, click to the lower left of the R peak. This will zoom in on the image. Next click on the R peak. Then image zooms out.
5. Select the start of IVR and waves: After determining HR, the program automatically ask the user to mark the start of IVR and then select the waves to be analyzed and cropped. a. Click the start of IVR: User needs to click on (with crosshairs) the start of IVR portion. Since it s not obvious to define that point, just click on some point close to that which should be before start of E-wave and after the previous T-wave on ECG. By doing that the program shows a purple line at that point. b. Click the waves: To choose the waves that user wants to crop and analyze, click on the crosshairs at a point in which the E- and A-wave are inside the lower right quadrant of crosshairs.
6. Click the peak, start and end of E-wave: Then it will zoom in on the selected E-wave and A-wave and ask the user to define the peak, start and end of E-wave. First, click on the peak of E-wave, then move the crosshairs to the start of E-wave and click on that point and finally do the same thing for the end of E-wave.
7. Click the peak, start and end of A-wave: Click on the peak, start and end of A-wave in the same way.
8. When user finished the analyzing of the first beat, the program shows: Calculated parameters: HR, IVRT E-wave: peak, acceleration time, deceleration time A-wave: peak, acceleration time, deceleration time 9. Remove the analysis from the wave: To remove a marked wave, Click on Remove Marked Wave and click on the waves.
10. Go to next image: User can go to the next image by clicking on Show Next Image button. 11. Analyze the next beats: If TSR and VSR are changed, user needs to the Step 2 again. If not, does Step 3 to 7 for the next waves.
12. Save and Close: By clicking on Save and Close button the program saves the cropped image parameters to an internal array. When finished analyzing all the images in the folder, click on Save and Close. This saves all the cropped waves as images in a folder called Cropped Images located in the current image folder. It also saves all marked parameters in a text file in the current image folder. Cropped Image Folder Cropped Images
