3 Overview The Teacher Connect Progress Report tab provides an intuitive, comprehensive place for teachers to input progress report information and comments on a class-by-class basis. All Teacher Connect settings save to the teacher s eschooldata account, rather than to the cookies on the computer utilized. This means that changes to settings within Teacher Connect will be reflected upon each login, regardless of where it is accessed from. Accessing Teacher Connect Progress Report From the Staff Schedule Views page, click the Teacher Connect icon Connect Interface for the selected class. to open the Teacher The material presented in this guide assumes the user has a basic familiarity with the esd System. For information on how to access and navigate the system, and select basic user preferences, please refer to the Getting Started User Guide. Alternately, right-click a Course # to directly access the Teacher Connect Progress Report. Once the Teacher Connect Interface is open, click the Progress Report menu item to open the Progress Report window for the selected class. For information on the Teacher Connect interface (layout, navigation and common tools), please refer to the Teacher Connect Interface User Guide. 4 Navigation Row The Classes filter allows teachers to filter the Classes menu options to display All classes, only the Current Progress Report Period s classes, or only Today s classes. The filter selection is maintained when users switch classes, and when they return to the Progress Report. The Progress Report menu lists the Progress Report calendar events, with their Start/End Dates in parentheses. The selection defaults to the current Progress Report period, which is identified by the notation Current after the dates. The Progress Report Entry Window indicator is above the Progress Report and Help menus. If the selected Progress Report s Entry Window is open, the Entry due by date will be listed. If the selected Progress Report s Entry Window is closed, the Entry Window s Start/End Dates will be listed. Click the Help menu to select and open the Standard Comments list. eschooldata, LLC Copyright
5 The Standard Comments window displays the list of Codes and Comments, and allows users to Print the full list. Click the Collapse icon to minimize the Standard Comments window, and the Close icon to close the window. Toolbar Options Click Settings to open the Display Options window for the active view (Current or Dropped Students). The Settings tool button allows users to change column display options en masse. Users can also hide/display individual columns via the column header menu (see the Teacher Connect Interface User Guide for more information). Important: The Weighted Average column display option is available ONLY when that Course Option was selected during Course setup. eschooldata, LLC Copyright
6 Data Entry Area The Erase All option allows users to erase all comments for the column, and is available in the Standard Comments, Comments, and Grade column menus. After selecting Erase All, click Yes to confirm or No to cancel. Progress Report Entry Teachers can click directly on any cell to enter Standard Comments, text Comments, or a Grade, and can navigate across columns using the arrow keys on the keyboard. Use the Enter key/shift-enter combination to navigate down/up rows. Cells with changed data will display the changed data icon in the upper left corner of the cell, and the last selected cell will be highlighted in yellow. Data changes are automatically saved when users switch to another class or another Teacher Connect icon (Roster, Gradebook, etc.). Click Save to save changes while staying on the same class. Display of the Standard Comments, Comments and Grade columns are controlled by the Course Options selected during Course setup. Display of the Weighted Average column is controlled by the Progress Report s Settings option, IF that Course Option was selected during Course setup. The Weighted Average calculation excludes assignments where the Multiplier or Maximum Score is zero (0). eschooldata, LLC Copyright
7 Standard Comment Entry Click a Standard Comments cell to open the Standard Comment entry field for the selected student. Standard Comment entry fields display a header row listing the selected and total comments with a Close icon, followed by the comment entry field with a Comment icon and a Fill Down icon. Users can type the Standard Comment numbers directly into the entry field OR select them from the Comments List. Users cannot switch from typing comment numbers to selecting comments without closing and reopening the Standard Comment entry field. Users will be prompted if invalid Comment numbers are entered. Type Standard Comment Numbers Type the Standard Comment numbers separated by commas, without spaces, as illustrated below. Press the Enter key to enter the comments and move down to the next row, or press the Tab key to enter the comments and move to the next column on the right. Users can also click the Close icon to enter the comments and close the Standard Comment entry field. Important: The system sees the text field and the comment menu as two different entry methods. Selections from one entry method do not carry over to the other entry method. Press Shift-Enter to move up one row, or Shift-Tab to move left one column. Select Comments Click the Comment icon to open the Comments List, beneath or above the cell (space permitting), with a footer row containing Clear and View Comment List buttons. Click the desired comments from the Comments List to enter them in the cell. Selected comments are indicated by light shading and a blue dot on the right. Click a selected comment to deselect it, or click Clear to clear all selected comments from the cell. Click View Comment List to open a window with the list of Standard Comments. eschooldata, LLC Copyright
8 From the View Comment List option, users can Print the list of Standard Comments to use as reference. The View Comment List window is the same one that is opened via Help > Standard Comments. Copy Comments To copy the selected student s comments to empty cells, click Close to enter the student s comments, then click the cell again to open the Standard Comment entry field and click the Fill Down icon. Important: Fill Down will NOT fill empty cells that display the changed data icon. Save your changes, then Fill Down again. eschooldata, LLC Copyright
9 Free-Text Comment Entry Click a Comments cell to enter free-text comments for the selected student. The footer row below the comment entry field will tally the used/available characters. Click Clear to remove the free-text comment. Click the Spell-Check icon to check and correct spelling. Click Close to complete the entry of the Comment and close the Comment window. Grade Entry Click into a cell in the Grade column to manually enter a grade for the selected student s Progress Report. Users can Copy Over the selected student s Weighted Average, and Fill Down the entered grade to the rest of the column. Copy Over Average is available regardless of whether the Weighted Averages column is displayed. Users will be warned if they enter an invalid grade. Copy Over Averages Select Copy Over Averages from the Grade column menu to copy the weighted averages from the Gradebook into the Grade column. Copy Over Averages is available regardless of whether the Weighted Averages column is displayed. The Weighted Average calculation includes ONLY those Gradebook assignments whose Due Dates fall within the Progress Report period s Start/End Dates. Click OK to close the message, then enter a valid grade for the student. Assignments where the Multiplier or Maximum Score is zero (0) are excluded from the Weighted Average. eschooldata, LLC Copyright
10 Select Copy All to copy all grades, or Copy Missing to copy only missing grades. Click Cancel to close the message without copying any grades. Users will be warned if a copied grade does not exist in the marking period grade table. Click OK to close the message, then enter a grade for the student(s) missing a grade. Click the Save button to save the entered Progress Report details. Once saved, the Success message will appear at the top of the Progress Report window. The Please Wait message may appear while the Progress Report details are being saved, and the screen will grey out to indicate that no changes can be made while the details are being saved. eschooldata, LLC Copyright
11 Average Details When the Weighted Averages column is displayed, users can click the student s Weighted Average to display their Average Details, a list of the assignments that are included in the student s Weighted Average. Reminder: The Weighted Average includes ONLY Gradebook assignments whose Due Dates fall within the Progress Report period s Start/End Dates. The Weighted Average calculation is a two-step process, as indicated below. Calculate the average for each Category: Category Average = Calculate the average of the Category averages: Weighted Average = Example: Average Detail (from above screenshot): Sum of ((Score + Bonus) Multiplier Category Weight) Sum of (Max Score Multiplier Category Weight) Sum of (Category Average Category Weight) Sum of Category Weight ( ) + ( ) + ( ) Exams, Essays Average = ( ) + ( ) + ( ) = Quizzes Average = ( ) + ( ) ( ) + ( ) = 0.8 Weighted Average = ( ) + (0.8 20) = ( ) eschooldata, LLC Copyright
12 Progress Report Exports The Teacher Connect Progress Report screen offers three options for exporting Progress Report details: Excel, PDF, and Print. Excel Click the Excel button to export the selected class Progress Report to Excel. Click Open or Save from the Option Bar at the bottom of the screen. Safari users must open Safari s Settings and UNcheck Block pop-up window in order for the Excel button to function correctly. The Excel Export includes two rows of class information followed by rows of students Progress Report information. eschooldata, LLC Copyright
13 PDF Click the PDF button to export the selected class Progress Report to Adobe Acrobat. Click Open or Save from the Option Bar at the bottom of the screen. Safari users must open Safari s Settings and UNcheck Block pop-up window in order for the PDF button to function correctly. The PDF Export contains the same output as the Excel Export, with class information followed by students Progress Report information. eschooldata, LLC Copyright
14 Print Click the Print button to open the selected class Progress Report information. The Print report contains the same output as the Excel/PDF Exports. Click Send To Printer to print the report.
