3 1 Introduction The finger scan reader is used as replacement for the HID Smarttouch Finger scan reader. This manual describes how to connect the PHG finger scan reader. 1.1 Specifications of initial version - 2 fingerprints are stored on the card - 1 of the 2 stored fingers must be presented - 1 card per reader(s) can be used to enter the enroll mode (Based on the UID of the card). The reader must be initialized for use with Keyprocessor cards. Depending on configuration, Desfire 3DES or AES256 (ev1) can be used. - The PHG reader, connected to a Reader-Orbit can only work with a Desfire 6 digit sitecode and 6 digit card number. - Connecting the PHG reader to a Polyx, the Polyx must be configured for use with the card coding like 4 sitecode and 4 cardnumber or 6 sitecode and 6 cardnumber. NOTE: The Desfire card must be Keyprocessor coded and prepared for store fingerprints.

4 2 Connecting the reader 2.1 Introduction There are 2 reader types, so there are 2 ways to connect the reader. The table model can be connected directly to the Workstation with a straight serial cable. 6 2.4 Connect the enrollment station The Table Model enrollment station can be connected with the supplied power supply. Be sure that NO jumpers are set on the connection board! Polyx firmware and config Polyx firmware: Use Polyx firmware version Hardware Control Applet: Configure the Polyx reader settings with the appropriate card coding using the Polyx hardware applet version v2.02. Warning! The baudrate of the reader is 9600 baud.

8 3 Using the reader 3.1 Enrollment The reader is programmed to store 2 fingerprints on the card. Each finger has to be presented 3 times to get a high accuracy. Present the enroll card, the Fingerprint sensor will flash red. The LED will blink Red. Start enrolling: present first finger 3 times present second finger 3 times NOTE: The red LED represents the time the finger must be presented, 1 st, 2 nd, 3 th time When the LED flashes blue, present the prepared Desfire card. If the LED becomes green the card is written successfully The LED will turn back to yellow 3.2 Use the reader in normal mode When the reader is in normal read mode, present your Enrolled card to the finger print reader. The LED will blink blue. The finger sensor lights-up RED and the LED starts flashing yellow. Present one of the two Enrolled fingers. When there is a match the status LED will blink Green and one beep is given. When there s no match, the status LED will blink Red and gives two beeps. Now you get a second chance to present your finger. When the second chance also fails you have to re-present your card. NOTE! Reader LED behavior for giving access or no access from the access control system depends on hardware and software configuration. 3.3 Led/Fingerprint sensor response flowchart On the next page a flowchart with response of led, buzzer and fingerprint sensor is displayed. about the used symbols: Led, color, horizontal blink times and pattern, vertical 1 st instance, 2 nd instance and 3 th instance Buzzer, horizontal amount of beeps, vertical what instance. Fingerprint sensor, red is on white is off.

9 Normal mode, yellow led active Present Badge Badge is enroll card Badge contains Fingerprint, blue led flashes once, Fingerprint sensor lights up and yellow led starts flashing. Badge contains no Fingerprint, but is prepared for a fingerprint, blue led flashes once, red led light up, reader beeps twice. Reader goes back to normal mode. Badge is not prepared for a Fingerprint No reaction from reader. Reader stays in normal mode. Reader stars enroll mode, red fingerprint sensor light up, red led starts flashing Present one of the two enrolled fingers Present 1 st finger, 3 times the red led flashes according to the times the finger must presented, 1 st 2 nd and 3 th time. After every good presented finger the reader beeps. If the finger matches, the reader beeps once and the led light up green, card number is send to access control system (polyx or orbit), which decides of this card is valid for this reader. Reader goes back to normal mode. When there is no match reader beeps twice, and the led light up red. A second chance will start. Present 2 nd finger, 3 times the red led flashes according to the times the finger must presented, 1 st 2 nd and 3 th time. After every good presented finger the reader beeps. PLEASE NOTE: Reader LED behavior for giving access or no access from the access control system depends on hardware and software configuration. Present one of the two enrolled finger for a second time If enrollment is ok, the blue led starts flashing If enrollment is not ok, the reader beeps twice the red led burns. Reader goes back to normal mode. If the finger matches, reader beeps once and the led light up green, card number is send to access control system (polyx or orbit), which decides of this card is valid for this reader. Reader goes back to normal mode. When there is no match reader beeps twice, and the led light up red. Reader goes back to normal mode. Present the card you want to program the fingerprint. If the card is programmed ok, the reader beeps once and the led burns green. Reader goes back to normal mode. If the programming fails, the reader beeps twice and a red led burns red. Reader goes back to normal mode.
