Description IBM WebSphere Application Hypervisor Edition V8.5 supports the deployment of WebSphere Application virtual images into VMware ESX, PowerVM, and IBM z/vm environments. WebSphere Application Hypervisor Edition V8.5 is a combination of WebSphere Application and the supported operating systems, optimized for appropriate environments. It can take the form of a single application server, a member of a cluster of application servers, or an IBM HTTP server instance. By deploying and running WebSphere Application Hypervisor Edition in virtualized environments, you can better utilize hardware, which can ultimately reduce hardware, power, cooling, and real estate costs. Increased hardware utilization results from virtualization, allowing a single machine to be partitioned into multiple smaller virtual machines, each of which can run an instance of WebSphere Application Hypervisor Edition. Highlights: Application Edition Management enables interruption-free application rollout. Applications can be upgraded without incurring outages to your end users. Health Management monitors the status of your application servers and is able to sense and respond to problem areas before end users suffer an outage. New Intelligent Routing improves business results by ensuring priority is given to business-critical applications. Requests are prioritized and routed based upon administrator-defined rules. Dynamic Clustering can proactively provision and start or stop new instances of application server Java virtual machines (JVMs) based on workload demands. It provides the ability to meet Service Level Agreements when multiple applications compete for resources. Entitlement for Network Deployment WebSphere Application Hypervisor Edition also includes the entitlement for IBM WebSphere Application Network Deployment, providing flexibility in the adoption of virtual environments. This includes authorization to use any combination of the WebSphere Application Hypervisor Edition and WebSphere Application Network Deployment programs up to the level of use specified in your proof of entitlement for WebSphere Application Hypervisor Edition. When using WebSphere Application Network Deployment, you must have a separate license and support entitlement for the operating system. The operating system included in the WebSphere Application Hypervisor Edition offering is restricted to support of that program. Flexible deployment options Flexible deployment options for the IBM HTTP component of WebSphere Application Hypervisor Edition are available with the IBM HTTP for WebSphere Application Hypervisor Edition. This offering entitles you to deploy the IBM HTTP and the underlying operating system on a stand-alone node without having to purchase a full WebSphere Application Hypervisor Edition license. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores. The PVU table can be found at pvu_licensing_for_customers.html Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (refer to the web page below). If using full capacity licensing, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the Program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed.
