What is Bulid a Blinkie? This is where you get to build one of those LED flashing things. You might have seen a few at various conventions and other places that enjoy a bit of hands-on make-and-take activities. Over the years a couple thousand blinkies have been assembled. You start with the kit, use the tools we have in the room. When you are done, you have a working blinkie. We have blinkie Techs to help you debug any problems. The average Blinkie builder takes about 75 minutes, and if it is your 1st time using a soldering iron we suggest you start with a beginners kit. Beginners How Easy Are They To Build? Intermediate Advanced Simple 4 Kit-07 $5-$10 4 RGB Kit-04 $10 Simple 4 Dogtag Kit-16 $5-$10 19 LED Circle Kit-02 $10-$ $17 Alligat or Kit-11 $10- $15 5x7 Matrix Kit-03 $10-$23 24 LED Sphere Kit-09b $15-$25 6 LED Dogtag Kit-14 $5-$8 2 RGB Dogtag Kit-15 $5 6 LED Circle Kit-01 Free*-$3 12 LED Circle Kit-09 $10-$ $15 19 LED Stick Kit-08 $5-$10 3x3 Matrix Kit-06 $10-$ $14 14 RGB Stick Kit-05 8x16 Matrix Kit-10 $15
6 LED Circle Kits-01 Soldering Tools Learn to build a blinkie. We guarantee you will leave with a working blinkie we ve assisted with over 2000 kits, so we re confident you will succeed! And yes, the basic kit is free. It s a 2.0 by 2.5 with a mounting pin on the back side. The LEDs are controlled by a PIC processor. Multiple blinking patterns controlled by a pattern selection button. Can t get enough of the Blinkies? Decided to take a kit home, but need tools? An excellent choice for doing a couple of kits at home. We have been very pleased with the Blue soldering station. Several people asked if we sell them so we picked up a few extra on our last order. New 40W Soldering Iron $1 New 58W Blue Soldering Station $25 Kit /w standard Red, Yellow, or Green LEDs $5 Upgrade to bi-color R/G or G/Y +$1 +$2 Upgrade to bright bi-color R/G or R/B +$3 Batteries Although each Blinkie kit comes with a set, don t forget an extra package of four LR44 batteries for your Blinkie. 4 Batteries (1 Set) $1 24 Batteries (6 Sets) $5 Pg-01 Firmware: 4 Mono 3 Bi-Color Pg-18
24 Sphere Kits LED Circle Kit-02 Looking for something really spectacular? Yes, we designed the 12 LED Circle Blinkies so second board can interlock with the first, forming a sphere of 24 LEDs. But it gets better. There are multiple LED placement options for each board. Create a truly unique Blinkie! This is a 19 Circle Blinkie Kit. It s a 1.8 by 2.6 double-sided circuit board with a mounting pin on the back side. It has 19 LEDs controlled by a PIC processor. This allows for some fairly intricate blinking patterns. And yes, there is an IR emitter and receiver for two way communication to other blinkies. Kit /w standard Red, Yellow, or Green LEDs $15 Upgrade to bi-color R/G or G/Y +$3 +$6 Upgrade to bright bi-color R/G or R/B +$8 Upgrade to bright 10MM Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Pink or White +$10 Kit /w standard Red, Yellow, or Green LEDs $10 Upgrade to bi-color R/G or G/Y +$2 +$5 Upgrade to bright bi-color R/G or R/B +$7 Pg-17 Firmware: L Mono M Bi-Color Firmware: 9 Mono 8 Bi-Color Pg-02
5x7 Matrix Kit-03 Simple 4 DogTag Kit-16 The Simple 4 Dogtag This is a 5x7 Matrix Blinkie Kit. It s a 1.8 by 2.95 double-sided circuit board with a mounting pin on the back side. Patterns and text scroll on a matrix made up of 35 LEDs. And yes, there is an IR emitter and receiver for two way communication to other blinkie boards. Down at Blinkie Labs, we found we had extra board material as part of a future project. Rather than waste it, we took it as a challenge. What you see here is the result. A 4 LED dogtag blinkie, which can have either single, two-color, or RGB LEDs. Since it is designed to be worn with a chain or lariat, you can see where we got the name. Kit /w bright flashing Red LEDs $15 Kit /w standard Red, Yellow, or Green LEDs $10 Upgrade to bi-color R/G or G/Y +$2 +$10 Upgrade to bright bi-color R/G or R/B +$13 Upgrade to bright bi-color R/G, R/B or G/B +$2 Upgrade to bright RGB 3mm +$5 Upgrade to bright RGB 5mm +$5 Upgrade to bright RGB 10mm +$6 Pg-03 Firmware: 0 Mono❿ Bi-Color Pg-16
2 RGB DogTag Kit-15 4 RGB Kit-04 The 2 RGB Dogtag Down at Blinkie Labs, we found we had extra board material as part of a future project. Rather than waste it, we took it as a challenge. Dwayne found some most excellent square RGB LEDs, and created a prototype to showoff to Dale, convincing him it was worth the investment to buy lots of the LEDs. What you see here is the result. A 2 RGB dogtag blinkie. Since it is designed to be worn with a chain or lariat, you can see where we got the name. It's a 2.2 by 1.4 double-sided circuit board with a mounting pin on the back side. It has 4 RGB LEDs controlled by a PIC processor. And yes, there is an IR emitter and receiver for two way communication to other blinkie boards. Kit /w bright RGB Square LEDs $7 Kit /w bright RGB Square LEDs $10 Pg-15 Firmware: T Cathode Firmware: 1 Anode 2 Cathode Pg-04
14 RGB Stick Kit-05 6 LED DogTag Kit-14 The 6 LED Dogtag The 19 LED Stick has proved to be very popular and so Dwayne wanted to improve on the design. Thus the 14 RGB Stick was designed. It's a 2.0" by 8.25" double-sided circuit board with a hole for hanging from a lariat that requires assembly and soldering. It has 14 RGB LEDs that will display various user-selectable patterns. There is an IR emitter and receiver for two way communication to other blinkie boards. Down at Blinkie Labs, we found we had extra board material as part of a future project. Rather than waste it, we took it as a challenge. What you see here is the result. A six LED dogtag blinkie, which can have either single or two-color LEDs. Since it is designed to be worn with a chain or lariat, you can see where we got the name. Kit /w standard Red, Yellow, or Green LEDs $5 Kit /w bright RGB Square LEDs $15 Upgrade to bi-color R/G or G/Y +$1 Blue, Pink, or White +$2 Upgrade to bright bi-color R/G or R/B +$3 Pg-05 Firmware: G Anode H Cathode Firmware: R Mono S Bi-Color Pg-14
4x4x4 RGB Cube Kit-13 3x3 Matrix Kit-06 Under Development Dwayne has always wanted to make an LED cube after seeing them on the internet. The soldering of LEDs to a wire lattice just seamed to fragile. After doing the "Gator" design, Dwayne learned the circuit board maker could do sophisticated board cuts. The design of the Cube is 8 circuit boards 3 upper levels, 1 bottom driver board and 4 legs, creating a 3.25 x 3.25 x 3.25 cube. With 64 RGB LED Dwayne added 4 driver chips to help the PIC driver the 192 LEDs. It's a 2.1" by 3.2" double-sided circuit board with a mounting pin on the back side that requires assembly and soldering. It has 9 single or bi-color LEDs that will display various user-selectable patterns. There is an IR emitter and receiver for two way communication to other blinkie boards. One of the special features of the 3x3 are the 5 push buttons. This blinkie comes with and is powered by a 5 DC wall wart that plugs into 110volt. You will see LR44 batter clips on the silkscreen because the 4x4 RBG matrix uses the same circuit board. LR44 batteries just don t last long enough driving 192 LEDs. Kit /w bright RGB Square LEDs $80 Kit /w standard Red, Yellow, or Green LEDs $10 Upgrade to bi-color R/G or G/Y +$1 +$3 Upgrade to bright bi-color R/G or R/B +$4 Upgrade to bright 10MM Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Pink or White +$7 Pg-13 Firmware: Y Firmware: F Mono E Bi-Color Pg-06
Simple 4 Kit-07 4x4 RGB Matrix Kit-12 We picked up some bright LEDs with a built in flasher chip and we were so impressed with them, we created a simple, easy-to-solder 1.5 square board around them. Under Development Kit /w bright flashing Red LEDs $15 Upgrade to bright bi-color R/G, R/B or G/B +$2 Upgrade to bright RGB 3mm +$5 Upgrade to bright RGB 5mm +$5 Upgrade to bright RGB 10mm +$6 Kit /w bright RGB Square LEDs $35 Pg-07 Firmware: Z Pg-12
Alligator Kit LED Stick Kit-08 The Alligator's snarly, toothy grin lights up with 15 LEDs, whilst it stares you down with an RGB LED eye. And lest your think that's all, it talks to any nearby Gators with an IR equipped tail. So, for a technical challenge, Dale asked how many LEDs can you put in a line using the our smallest PIC, the 12F683, and the 19 LED Stick was created. It s a 0.6 by 8.25 double-sided circuit board with a hole for hanging from a lariat. It has 19 LEDs controlled by a PIC processor. This allows for some fairly intricate blinking patterns. And yes, there is an IR emitter and receiver for two way communication to other blinkie boards. Kit /w standard Red, Yellow, or Green LEDs $10 Kit /w standard Red, Yellow, or Green LEDs $5 +$5 +$5 Pg-11 Firmware: Q Firmware: 7 Mono Pg-08
12 LED Circle Kit-09 8x16 Matrix Kit-10 We always try to support different levels of assembly skills, this time we think we nailed them all with a single design. After making the 5x7 Matrix, Dwayne always wanted to do something bigger. Starting with a 3 inch circle, we placed 12 LEDs around the edge, a very easy to solder board. Dale wanted support for 10mm LEDS, so we added support for them too! With so many assembly options, take a look through the options to decide how you want to assemble yours. Kit /w standard Red, Yellow, or Green LEDs $10 Upgrade to bi-color R/G or G/Y +$2 Blue, Violet, or White +$3 Upgrade to bright bi-color R/G or R/B +$4 Upgrade to bright 10MM Red, Yellow, Green, Blue or White +$5 He had to overcome two problems. The 1st was how to light up so many LEDs (256, as each bi-color LED counts as two)! The 2nd issue, how long would it take to solder in all the LEDs? After searching the globe, Dwayne located the perfect parts - two beautiful 8x8 matrixes. He added 2 driver chips to improve the brightness. We still support the board with the standard four LR44 batteries, but have added support for external power. It's a 2.5" by 1.8" double-sided circuit board that will display various user-selectable patterns and text messages. The design has two buttons to select the pattern. Kit /w bright RG(Yellow) matrix LEDs $15 optional AC Power +$5 Pg-09 Firmware: L Mono M Bi-Color Firmware: J Pg-10
