16 What Is ATF? What Is ATF? Overview Applicatio Trace Facility (ATF) is a compoet of OMEGAMON II for IMS ad DBCTL, V510. ATF collects detailed performace data about evets of oe or more IMS ad DBCTL trasactios as they execute. This data is stored i a dataspace for you to review with the CUA. Purpose You ca use the performace data ATF collects to: Idetify trasactio respose-time compoets Fie-tue applicatios Uderstad how applicatio programs operate Role i OMEGAMON II As part of OMEGAMON II, V510, ATF iformatio complemets the summary level data collected by the Trasactio Reportig Facility (TRF), aother moitorig compoet of OMEGAMON II. 17 ATF Compoets ATF Compoets Overview The mai compoets of ATF are: ATF Maager ATF Collector The ATF Maager cotrols the collectio of IMS trasactio data ad routes this data to the ATF Collector. The ATF Collector packages this data for display o a ATF CUA pael. The collected data is stored i a MVS dataspace where it ca be retrieved ad displayed by the CUA iterface paels. The level of trace data that is collected ad displayed by ATF is at the IMS Moitor level. Figure 1 o page 17 shows the ATF cotrol ad data flows. 18 How ATF Works How ATF Works Overview ATF is a meu optio you ca select i OMEGAMON II IMS, V510. You defie the type of iformatio you wat to collect i a ATF trace. The amout of time ad the type of data that ATF collects, depeds o the criteria specified i ATF filter traces. Depedig o the performace data you wat to trace, you ca activate ad iactivate traces durig a ATF sessio ad modify the filter criteria. The dataspace that stores the trace data is created at the same time the ATF sessio i the OMEGAMON CLASSIC address space is started. At the begiig of a ew ATF sessio, the dataspace is cleared. Refer to ATF Actios o page 33 for more iformatio o addig ad modifyig traces ad filter criteria. Multiple ATF sessios There is a oe-to-oe relatioship betwee a OMEGAMON II for IMS ad a ATF sessio. Multiple ATF sessios ca moitor a sigle IMS system. Each OMEGAMON ATF sessio is idetified by a uique job ame. A IMS moitor ca ru cocurretly with oe or more ATF sessios. Multiple ATF sessios IMS System Message Regios CUA Address Space OMEGAMON II Address Spaces ATF Dataspaces CUA Address Spaces MVS Displayig ATF data The dataspace that stores the trasactio data is a MVS dataspace with a default size of 65 megabytes. There is oe ATF dataspace per OMEGAMON II address space, ad its size is defied at startup. You ca have several OMEGAMON II for IMS address spaces moitorig the same sub-system. Each of these address spaces ca have oe dataspace sized as eeded. You ca view trasactio data collected by ATF o the ATF Trasactio History pael. From here, you ca select idividual trasactios for more iformatio. Refer to Trasactio Data Displays o page 49 for examples of these data paels. Overview 19

23 ATF ad Your System ATF ad Your System Impact o system performace ATF s impact o the performace of your IMS ad DBCTL system is the same as ruig the IMS Moitorig Facility. All address spaces must be executed as MVS systems started tasks. Usig ATF i a shared queue eviromet ATF collects program performace data relative to a sigle IMS system. If a IMS executes i a shared queues eviromet with multiple IMS eviromets that ca process the same trasactio, the performace data provided by ATF will ot be valid. ATF executig i a shared queues eviromet with oly oe IMS eviromet provides the same performace data as if the sigle IMS were ot i a shared queues eviromet. Before You Begi 23
