15 CHAPTER 1 What is the WebLogic EJB Deployer? The WebLogic EJB Deployer is a graphical tool that Deployers ca use to examie, cofigure, ad deploy Eterprise JavaBeas (EJBs) for use with the WebLogic Eterprise (WLE) server. The WebLogic EJB Deployer fully supports Su s Eterprise JavaBeas Specificatio 1.1 (Public Release 2 dated October 18, 1999). For more iformatio about deployig EJBs i the WLE eviromet, see Buildig ad Deployig Eterprise JavaBeas (EJBs). Key Capabilities Usig the WebLogic EJB Deployer, you ca: Ope ejb-jar files cotaiig oe or more EJBs. Bea Providers must separately create the ejb-jar files that the WebLogic EJB Deployer uses for deploymet. View the cotets of ejb-jar files. Examie deploymet descriptors of ejb-jar files, which iclude: l l Stadard XML elemets as defied i the Eterprise JavaBeas Specificatio, icludig assembly descriptor iformatio, bea refereces, ad security iformatio. 16 1 What is the WebLogic EJB Deployer? Optioally, cofigure the deploymet descriptor settigs that Deployers are allowed to modify, i compliace with Su s Eterprise JavaBeas Specificatio. I additio, Deployers ca modify WLE XML extesio elemets to cofigure persistece, specify resource verificatio, ad so o. Optioally, create a deployable ejb-jar file for subsequet deploymet to the WLE EJB Cotaier. Save chages i the same ejb-jar file or create a ew oe. Supported File Formats The WebLogic EJB Deployer supports the ejb-jar formats listed i Table 1-1. Table 1-1 Supported File Formats ejb-jar Format stadard exteded deployable Cotais Bea biaries, Su s stadard XML elemets (for EJB versio 1.1 compliace), ad optioal assembly descriptor XML elemets. Cofigurig Eviromet Settigs To cofigure the eviromet settigs for the WebLogic EJB Deployer: 1. Click the Optios butto o the toolbar, or choose Optios from the Edit meu. The WebLogic EJB Deployer Properties dialog box appears. Figure 2-3 shows a example of the WebLogic EJB Deployer Properties dialog box. Figure 2-3 WebLogic EJB Deployer Properties Dialog Box 2. Double-click the plus (+) sig to the left of the deployer. 3. Click Eviromet. The Eviromet Properties pae appears. Figure 2-4 shows a example of the Eviromet Properties pae. Figure 2-4 Eviromet Properties The Eviromet Properties pae cotais the followig optios: Name savewidowlocatios tmpdir Descriptio Determies whether the WebLogic EJB Deployer saves widow attributes (true, the default), or ot (false) Specifies the temporary directory for savig widow attributes (default is \tmp). Cofigurig EJBC Settigs 4. Make the chages you wat, if ay, ad the click OK. You ca cofigure the settigs that the BEA ejbc compiler uses whe it geerates cotaier classes. To cofigure these settigs: 1. 23 Navigatig the WebLogic EJB Deployer The WebLogic EJB Deployer Properties dialog box appears. Figure 2-5 shows a example of the WebLogic EJB Deployer Properties dialog box. Figure 2-6 shows a example of the EJBC Properties pae. Figure 2-6 EJBC Properties The EJBC Properties dialog box cotais the followig optios: Name keepgeerated compiler Descriptio If True is selected, ejbc saves the geerated Java files for deploymet i the ejb-jar file. If False is selected, ejbc performs a compliace check but does ot update the ejb-jar file. Specifies the Java compiler to use for geeratig cotaier classes. 4. Make the chages you wat, if ay. 5. Click OK. For more iformatio about the ejbc compiler, see the Commad Referece. Exitig the WebLogic EJB Deployer To exit the WebLogic EJB Deployer: 1. Choose Exit from the File meu. If the WebLogic EJB Deployer detects that chages to ay ope ejb-jar files have ot bee saved, it prompts you whether to save it (Yes) or ot (No). Figure 2-7 shows a example of the Save prompt. Summary of Deploymet Steps Deployig a EJB ivolves the followig basic steps: 1. Create the stadard deploymet descriptor ad optioally, the exteded deploymet descriptor. The Bea Provider is resposible for creatig these files separately. The WebLogic EJB Deployer the uses these files to create deployable ejb-jar files. 2. Start the WebLogic EJB Deployer. 3. Load a ejb-jar file. 4. Optioally, chage settigs i the deploymet descriptor. 5. Deploy the ejb-jar file, which geerates the cotaier classes, adds the cotaier classes to the ejb-jar file, ad saves ay chages. 6. Close the ejb-jar file. Usig the WebLogic EJB Deployer 2-9

26 2 Usig the WebLogic EJB Deployer 7. Copy the ejb-jar file to a target Java server. 8. Update the UBBCONFIG with the ame ad locatio of this ejb-jar file. You ca also use WebLogic EJB Deployer to simply view the settigs i the ejb-jar file s deploymet descriptor. Opeig ejb-jar Files To ope a ejb-jar file: 1. Click the Ope butto o the toolbar, or choose Ope from the File meu. The Ope EJB-JAR File dialog box appears. Figure 2-8 shows a example of the Ope EJB-JAR File dialog box. Displays a list of directories ad files i the selected directory. Type or double-click the ame of the ejb-jar file you wat to ope. Select a file type. 2. Select the source directory that cotais the ejb-jar file that you wat to ope. 3. Select or type the ame of the ejb-jar file you wat to ope. 4. Click Ope. The WebLogic EJB Deployer opes the ejb-jar file, validates its cotets, ad displays it Usig the WebLogic EJB Deployer

27 EJB Deploymet Tasks Navigatig the ejb-jar Cotets List The ejb-jar Cotets List displays all the elemets of the selected ejb-jar file i a tree hierarchy. You ca expad or collapse a list i order to show or hide subordiate items i the hierarchy. A plus (+) or mius (-) sig to the left of a etry idicates whether a item cotais subordiate (child) items. To show or hide a subordiate item, click the paret ame. Navigatig a Deploymet Descriptor To avigate properties i a deploymet descriptor (both stadard ad optioal exteded XML elemets), click its correspodig etry i the ejb-jar Cotets List. The pael associated with the etry appears i the frame to the right. Table 2-1 lists the paels i the WebLogic EJB Deployer. The WebLogic EJB Deployer saves chages to the ejb-jar file automatically.
