1 UNIT 1 Keywords: page An app, short for application, is a software program made for mobile devices. It can serve many purposes, including but not limited to: communication buying things online social media information sharing gaming entertainment The idea of mobile apps was first introduced in 1983, when Steve Jobs, of Apple Inc., spoke of software that could be downloaded over phone lines. For a long time after that, apps were only used for communication and simple games. Nothing significant was developed because phones: had small displays did not have sensors did not have internet / Wi-Fi connectivity had small storage capacity in 2007, when Apple s iphone was launched The App Store was created the next year and its Android rival, Google Play,(2008) Mobile devices, such as Samsung s Galaxy S8, can be used as a VR headset, which allows users to experience entertainment in a very realistic way. Wearable devices like smartwatches, as seen in above, can sense your blood pressure and body temperature, and quickly alert emergency services if you become very ill.

3 UNIT 4 Customising your app Keywords: page First, log in to Blippit using your Office 365 account. Find the Drop Zone on the main page, and look for the Create A New App section. You will find a box with the label Required Details and a pencil icon next to it. Click on the icon to start your app creating journey There are three options: Start-up Screen : displayed on the first page and is great for any widget that contains the most relevant and interesting information in your app Side Menu : is an easy way to navigate to any supporting information Footer Nav : is great for something that always needs to be available on the app. the Writer Widget is the most important widget in the app for a number of reasons: It allows you to add and format text It allows you to embed media It allows you to create navigation as you can add more widgets to it. 3

4 HTML To embed the video from the internet to your app, you need to use the Writer Widget. (press Source in Writer Widget) You can also use CSS and style tags to format text. Click on the Publish button at the top of your taskbar to send it to your teacher for approval. 4

5 End of Unit Quiz Do you need HTML to add images or videos to your app? It is a useful feature but you don t need it as you can use the Image or Video Widget. What does it mean to embed something? To place something from an external source in your app without actually uploading it there Why is the Writer Widget so useful?
