Please write down the serial number of the question before attempting it. 1 Answer the following questions based on Computer System: a) 1Giga byte = Bytes. 10 * 10 * 10 * 10 bytes b) List any two options available in Formatting toolbar in MS-Word. 1. Font Style. Font Size c) Write differences between : i. RAM and ROM 1. A ROM chip is non-volatile storage and does not require a constant source of power to retain information stored on it. When power is lost or turned off, a ROM chip will keep the information stored on it. In contrast, a RAM chip is volatile and requires a constant source of power to retain information. When power is lost or turned off, a RAM chip will lose the information stored on it.. A ROM chip is used primarily in the startup process of a computer, whereas a RAM chip is used in the normal operations of a computer after starting up and loading the operating system. 1 1 ii. It is specific purpose software. System software is computer software designed to operate the computer hardware and to provide a platform for running application software. Cut will completely remove what you highlighted and you will paste in in another location. Copy simply leaves the text you highlighted and paste it to another location f) Write short notes on: i. Graphic Tablets: A graphics tablet or digitizer is a computer input device that enables a user to hand-draw images, animations and graphics, similar to the way a person draws

2 images with a pencil and paper. ii. Light Pen: A light pen is a computer input device in the form of a light-sensitive wand used in conjunction with a computer's CRT display. It allows the user to point to displayed objects or draw on the screen in a similar way to a touchscreen but with greater positional accuracy. iii. OCR: Optical Character Recognition, or OCR, is a technology that enables you to convert different types of documents, such as scanned paper documents, PDF files or images captured by a digital camera into editable and searchable data. iv. Plotter: The plotter is a computer printer for printing vector graphics. In the past, plotters were used in applications such as computer-aided design, though they have generally been replaced with wide-format conventional printers. A plotter gives a hard copy of the output. It draws pictures on paper using a pen. v. Magnetic Tape: Magnetic tape is a medium for magnetic recording, made of a thin magnetizable coating on a long, narrow strip of plastic film. It was developed in Germany, based on magnetic wire recording. It works on all the layers of the image, visible and invisible. c) Differentiate between : JPEG and GIF: JPEG is a standardized image compression mechanism. JPEG is designed for compressing either full-color ( bit) or grey-scale digital images of "natural" (real-world) scenes. The Graphics Interchange Format was developed in 1987 at the request of CompuServe, who needed a platform independent image format that was suitable for transfer across slow connections. It is a compressed (lossless) format (it uses the LZW compression) and compresses at a ratio of between 3:1 and :1
