This document describes the installation procedure, problems that were resolved, known problems and limitations for Spire CX260 color server. Prerequisites and Installation Procedure Make sure you install Spire CX SP1 on top of Spire CX (Dated April ) SP1 includes and replaces Patch P1 (dated May ). There is no need to uninstall the current Spire CX260 software prior to installing SP1. The CX260V2.0 SP1 contains new version of Driver Extension, you will need to uninstall the current DEX from the client PC station, see below for more details. CX260 PPD for Macintosh was modified, clients has to copy the new PPD from the Spire. Page 1 of 11

2 Installing Service Pack 1 1. Exit the Spire CX260 software. 2. Copy the CX260_V2_SP1.zip file or disk image to your Spire CX260 shared disk and then extract the zip file. 3. Run the Setup.exe file. 4. Double-click the Setup.exe file to start the installation process. 5. Select Yes to remove the current ColorServerGUI 6. Important! You must select Yes at this step. Though you select Yes the Format Image Disk will not perform. 7. Follow the steps in the Installation Wizard and when prompted click Yes to restart the system 8. After the system restarts, Spire CX260 software will start automatically. 9. From the Help menu, select About and under Updates verify that the SP1 software was installed. Note: You can also find the Spire CX260 service pack name on the test page that automatically prints when the Xerox DocuColor 242/252/260 printer/copier is turned on. Installing CX260 Driver Extension at client station The CX260V2.0 Service Pack 1 release contains new version of Driver Extension, in order to use this version you need to do the following: 1. At the client PC station close all applications currently running Page 2 of 11

3 2. Log-in to the Spire CX260v2.0-SP1 and copy from: D:\Utilities\PC utilities\driver Extension the file: "DEXUninstaller.exe" 3. Run the file "DEXUninstaller.exe" at the client, select "AdobePS CX260_V2" and O.K. 4. After Un-installation completed successfully add new printer for CX260 at the client station. 5. Open any document, select File -> Print and choose Properties. 6. Wait a few moments till the new Driver Extension will be remotely installed from the CX The new DEX job ticket for Spire CX260 should be open now and is ready for use. Page 3 of 11

4 Problems Fixed This section lists the main problems that are resolved in the SP1 release of the Spire CX260 software. Tabs Printing A job that includes tabs and mixed paper sizes no longer freezes in the queues. Tools In the Settings window (Security parameter), if you click Cancel, security settings are no longer saved. Print Driver For the Pro Control Basic and Pro Control Station configurations, the Print Driver window now includes Separations in the Print Mode parameter. Off-the-glass Calibration On the Spire CX260, if you close the Calibration wizard before the calibration process finishes, the calibration process continues to work as expected. The test page now updates the last calibration date when you perform off-the-glass calibration. iway Support If you print via iway, the JMF status is now correct. List of Calibration Tables You can now delete multiple calibration tables. Test Page The test page now displays the correct finishers and finisher options. Tray 8 (Interposer) In the workspace, the Paper Stock window now displays the correct status for Tray 8. Crop Marks Crop marks no longer knock out the bleed information. Page 4 of 11

5 Spire Web Services If you print the calibration chart from the Spire Web Services window and the calibration chart fails to print, an error message now appears. Help File The PDF help file is included in this version. Configuration Backup The configuration backup now works as expected. Heavyweight 2 Paper Type and Auto Duplex To prevent damage to the printer, heavyweight 2 paper type can t be sent to auto duplex if Use Printer Settings is selected. Aborting a Job If you abort a job that is almost finished printing, the job no longer freezes in the Print Queue. ICC 4.0 Support Spire CX260 now supports ICC 4.0. Calibration Using the Eye One Spectrophotometer The Eye-One calibration tutorial now describes how to calibrate using the Eye-One spectrophotometer. Puncher Finishing Option The Puncher finishing option now works as expected if you choose to punch three or four holes. Known Limitations This section lists the limitations in the Spire CX SP1 software. Note: This list does not replace the list of limitations listed in the Release Notes for Spire CX Page 5 of 11

6 Format Image disk during Installation: During installation a wrong message about Format Image disk will popup, to avoid problem you must select Yes when the message appear. Though you select Yes the Format Image Disk will not perform. Print Driver The Print Driver is not available and doesn t launch if you have Microsoft Windows 2000 with Adobe Illustrator CS or Adobe InDesign CS software. Use the PPD options instead. If you use an LPR printer with the Print Driver, and the Print Driver is offline, the file you print will be corrupted. Make sure the Print Driver is always set to online status. The Print Driver is not supported in a print server configuration because there is no direct connection between a Windows client workstation and the Spire CX260 color server. Multipage Tiff Support The Spire CX260 does not support multipage TIFF files. If you import multipage TIFF files, only one page prints. User Defined Imposition Templates Occasionally, when you import a step and repeat user defined template, the template is listed under a different imposition method for example, saddle stitch. Select the step and repeat template from any list in which it appears and it will work as expected. DiskWipe on Shutdown The disk wipe doesn t work if you set it to run during the Spire CX260 shut down. You need to start the disk wipe tool manually. Gradation Tool from Remote Workspace If you are working from the Remote Workspace and use the Gradation tool, unexpected results may occur if another client operator previews a job or uses the Gradation tool at the same time. You can only use the Gradation tool from one client workstation. Page 6 of 11
