4 4 Release Notes LAW PreDiscovery 6.6 Release Notes May 30, 2014 Version The LAW PreDiscovery Release Notes provide a list of new features, resolved issues, and current issues in LAW PreDiscovery version and Early Data Analyzer version The current issues may be addressed in an update or other future release of LAW PreDiscovery. On June 24, 2014, LAW PreDiscovery version and Early Data Analyzer version was released. This release contains a number of fixes for issues found in previous releases. On September 10, 2014, LAW PreDiscovery version and Early Data Analyzer version was released. This release contains some modifications and a number of fixes for issues found in previous releases. On December 2, 2014, Early Data Analyzer version was released. This release contains a number of fixes for issues found in previous releases. Enhancements LAW PreDiscovery Enhancements - LAW PreDiscovery The following enhancements have been added to LAW PreDiscovery version : Modifications ED Loader The file identification engine was updated to version 3.6. This version resolves an issue where Microsoft Office XML (e.g..docx) files were misidentified as archives and yielded a larger number of files than expected during import. The dtsearch engine was updated to version Grid View The grid will no longer sort when a column header is clicked unless the grid is grouped by at least one field. OCR All image and media file types (e.g. TIFF, JPEG) imported with ED Loader are now assigned an OcrStatus of "Y" during imports regardless of the text extraction settings since the extracted text will only contain metadata properties.

6 6 Release Notes Search Reports The search reports tool was re-designed to support 64-bit processing and executing searches in parallel, offering significant performance improvements on systems with multiple cores (up to 10x in some cases). Enhancements - LAW PreDiscovery The following enhancements have been added to LAW PreDiscovery version : New Features Batch Processing The "Detect comments for MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint and PDF files" setting in the Document Analysis Options dialog box for the Document Processing/Analysis batch process now supports detection of sticky notes in Adobe Acrobat PDF files. This functionality is also now available with the "Detect comments for MS Word/Excel/ PowerPoint and PDF files" setting in the metadata extraction options for ED Loader. Deduplication The new "Refresh duplicate status after deleting records" setting on the Preferences tab in the Options dialog box allows automatic updating of the _DupID and DupStatus system fields when documents are deleted from a case, ensuring this information is upto-date based on which files remain in the case. ED Loader The "Detect comments for MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint and PDF files" setting in the metadata extraction options for ED Loader now supports detection of sticky notes in Adobe Acrobat PDF files. This functionality is also now available with the "Detect comments for MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint and PDF files" setting in the Document Analysis Options dialog box for the Document Processing/Analysis batch process. Export With the new "Regenerate Load File(s) option on the Formats / Documents tab in the Export Utility dialog box, load files from previous exports can be re-generated without reexporting all of the associated native, image, and/or text files. This feature can be used to add, remove, or modify the index fields in an existing load file. Image Viewer PDF files imported with ED Loader are now automatically displayed in the main image viewer without performing a native conversion.

7 Enhancements 7 Import Text files located in a folder separate from their associated images can now be imported along with images when importing an Opticon or IPRO load file. OCR OCR can now be performed on native files (e.g. files imported with ED Loader) that are supported image formats (including PDF) without having to first convert the files to TIFF images. Run Commands Run commands can now be shared for all users that are mapped to the same shared settings folder by placing them in a Commands folder under the shared settings directory. If a run command with the same name exists on the local workstation and the shared folder, the local version will be given precedence. Search Filter The "Filter by Duplicate Values" function is added to the grid views and can be used to locate potentially problematic duplicate values within the specified index field. This feature is also accessible from the main form under the Tools menu (Find Duplicate Values). TIFF/PDF Conversion and E-printing Version 13.0 of Avantstar Quick View Plus is now supported as a source application. This version can also be used with the "Quick View Plus Review Mode" feature. Please see Avantstar's license agreement prior to using this application with LAW PreDiscovery. The 2013 versions of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel are now supported as source applications. Modifications Batch Process When capturing extended metadata for Microsoft files during a Document Processing/ Analysis batch process, the user-specified time zone used to process the case will now be used for date/time fields. Database Microsoft SQL Server version 2005 (including Express edition) is no longer a supported database backend. Cases opened or created using this version will still function;

Licensing Any failure reading/writing to a cell on the license key will now be logged to %TEMP% \law50\sentinel_err.csv. TIFF/PDF Conversion and E-printing The 2013 versions of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word are now supported as source applications for conversions and printing. 9 Enhancements 9 The dtsearch engine was updated to version Enhancements - Early Data Analyzer The following enhancements have been added to Early Data Analyzer version 1.6.0: New Features Exceptions The Exceptions view can now be filtered by Custodian, File Type, or Session values to limit the set of document exceptions to review and/or re-analyze. Export Native exports can now be distributed across multiple agents to increase export performance. Note: Worker licenses are not required for agents executing an export process. Filters User-defined "Include" and "Exclude" selections for supported file types can be saved as the default settings for new cases. For example, if you wish to always include the Adobe Acrobat PDF file type, you can check the Include box and set this as the default for all future Early Data Analyzer cases. Gap Analysis The "Gap Analysis" view is now available on the case-level Dashboard tab in the Source Contents section and can be used to identify date-related gaps in the imported data. Metadata Compound documents are now detected during analysis and can be located by running a search on the "IsCompound" field (compound documents contain a value of 1 in this field). Additional metadata properties, such as hidden sheets in a Microsoft Excel file and speaker notes in a Microsoft PowerPoint file, can now be (optionally) detected during analysis and included as fields for native exports. The speed of analyzing *.7z (7-Zip) files is improved. The time zone displayed in the Early Data Analyzer Web and Early Data Analyzer desktop interfaces for dates extracted during ingestion can now be specified on the General tab

10 10 Release Notes in the New Case Settings and Edit Case Settings dialog boxes. Dates in exported s (saved as HTML or MHTML) and fields will automatically shift based on the selected time zone. Near-Duplicate & Thread Analyses: Near-duplicate and thread detection can now be performed during analysis. The "Near-Duplicate & Thread Analysis" license module is required. Repeated content commonly found in footers can be excluded from the nearduplicate detection process by pasting the text to exclude on the new Footer Exclusions tab in the Edit Case Settings dialog box. thread and near-duplicate viewers are now available in Early Data Analyzer Web. These viewers can be launched by clicking the appropriate icon in the Early Data Analyzer Web content viewer for the loaded document, when applicable. Tagging is also available in these views. OCR The OCR process can now be configured to automatically start after analysis with the new "Automatically queue documents for OCR during analysis" setting on the OCR tab in the New Case Settings and Edit Case Settings dialog boxes, as opposed to manually starting the process after data is analyzed. Processing An estimated remaining processing time is now displayed on the Global Dashboard for analysis, OCR, and exporting. The maximum number of agents to be used for export and OCR can now be specified independently of analysis on the Analysis tab in the New Case Settings and Edit Case Settings dialog boxes. Database If unable to connect to a case database when attempting to edit case settings, the Edit

Forensic Images Items extracted from forensic images will now capture the file system timestamps from the image itself. 12 12 Release Notes Content Viewer A (user-level) "Last viewed" timestamp will appear in the content viewer and is updated any time the content of a document is viewed in Early Data Analyzer Web (via the Filters tab, Search tab, etc.). Explore Tab The new Explore tab allows you select a document from a list of all documents in the case or documents returned by an "ad hoc" search and then drill down on a selected document, including threads, near-duplicates, and exact duplicates. Additional metadata fields are also visible on this tab in the "More Metadata" section. Statistical Review Tab The new Statistical Review tab allows the creation of randomly-selected sample sets of documents. The set(s) can be reviewed for responsiveness, privilege, or other criteria for use in calculating an estimated number of documents that meet said criteria within the entire collection or a selected subset (included, excluded, tags, etc.). Modifications Internet Browser Microsoft Internet Explorer version 11 is now supported as a browser for Early Data Analyzer Web. 13 Resolved Issues 13 Resolved Issues LAW PreDiscovery Resolved Issues - LAW PreDiscovery The following reported issues have been resolved in LAW PreDiscovery version : ED Loader Attempting to import Microsoft Outlook mail stores (*.pst) or MBOX mail stores (*.mbx) would fail with an "Active X component can't create object" error after a first-time installation of LAW PreDiscovery (version only). Timestamps or decimals with custom formatting in Microsoft Excel documents are rounded to integer values. Installation The first time a user attempts to run LAW PreDiscovery on a workstation that had the software installed by another user, a prompt to configure the software would appear. OCR Performing an OCR batch process on a placeholder for a native file with no file extension fails. Manually performing OCR on a multi-page TIFF converted from an image-based native file causes the text from the first page to be repeated for all other pages when the output format is set to anything other than text. Manually performing OCR on a multi-page TIFF that was converted from a non-image based native file resulted in an invalid format error. Search Reports If searches are executed from the search reports tool, the searches can only be resumed after adding new documents to the case if all documents are contained in a single index. In cases with multiple indexes, the counts must be reset in order to search the new documents. Resolved Issues - LAW PreDiscovery The following reported issues have been resolved in LAW PreDiscovery version :

14 14 Release Notes ED Loader MBOX files over 2GB fail to import. Export The available disk space free check may fail with an "overflow" error on extremely large drives (> 500 TB) and block the start of the export process. Near-Duplicate & Thread Analysis An "Index was outside the bounds of the array" was occurring when trying to launch the Near-Duplicate and Thread Analysis tool in a case containing gaps in the ID field values (expected when documents are deleted and then more data is added to the case). Resolved Issues - LAW PreDiscovery The following reported issues have been resolved in LAW PreDiscovery version : Create PST An out of memory error was occurring when attempting to "Create Outlook PST" with a large number of records. An "Invalid field definition '000' in definition of index or relationship" error was occurring if the path to an in the recordset was over 255 characters. ED Loader The import process was hanging on certain EML files when the output was set to MHTML. Attachments were not being extracted from specific EML files. Text extraction fails on Powerpoint files (*.pptx) containing embedded files if created on a Mac OS. The "Limit no. of stations for the job" setting may allow more workstations to join a distributed import than the specified limit in some cases when there are a large number of idle workstations (20+) looking for work. Unexpected characters were appearing in the Title and Author metadata fields for specific Adobe PDF files. An equals sign ("=") was appearing in extracted text for specific MBOX s.

15 Resolved Issues 15 The body was missing from a specific set of s when saving to HTML or MHTML. Threading A timeout exception was occurring on extremely large cases. Export The image tags were missing from the control list (LST file) when exporting full text only. When no other text type was available or selected for export, printed text was not exporting unless Include Images was also selected. Grid View Viewing attachment fields in the standalone grid was failing (first run only) in Access cases. View > Attachment Fields would return all records in the case to the grid instead of only exposing attachments fields for the current recordset (LAW PreDiscovery version 6.5 only). Import A "Not a valid bookmark" error was occurring when importing an OPT file into an Access case. In certain situations, MSG files were given an incorrect source application of Microsoft Excel when importing the files, exporting to EDRM, and re-importing. EDRM XML imports were failing if the Custodian field existed in the load file but not an ExtractedText field. Installation A DLL file was missing from the installer which caused errors to occur during an ED Loader import (LAW PreDiscovery version 6.5 only). Licensing An error of "No sub-license was available for undock operation" was occurring when creating undocked keys and losing access to the license before the undocking was complete. Management Console

16 16 Release Notes A "String or binary data would be truncated" error was occurring when attempting to process a case name containing over 50 characters. Near-Duplicate & Thread Analysis The Near-Duplicate and Thread Analysis was failing to initialize with a "Value not found: IntegratedSecurity" error under a specific set of circumstances. The following errors, "String or binary data would be truncated.system.data.sqlclient.sqlerror: The statement has been terminated." and "The statement terminated. The maximum recursion 100 has been exhausted before statement completion" were occurring with a specific set of files during near-duplicate and thread analysis. The Near-Duplicate and Thread Analysis would not launch when running LAW PreDiscovery with a temporary license. Search Reports The search speed of the Full Text Search Reports feature is now increased. An out of memory error sometimes occurred executing searches from the Full Text Search Reports if the search term contained a large number of hits (500K+) and the index was partitioned into a large number of indexes (8+). TIFF/PDF Conversion and E-printing When printing or converting Microsoft PowerPoint files using the "Slides and Notes (Full Page)" option, the notes page(s) appeared to be blank in some cases due to matching font and background colors. A "TrackRevisions method or property is not available because this command is not available for reading" error was occurring when printing or converting Microsoft Word 2013 files. Including the FileSize field on a custom placeholder prevented the FileSize and subsequent field values from appearing on the placeholder. Multiple job names were appearing on placeholders as a result of the print queue not being cleared when multiple documents failed to print in succession. Early Data Analyzer Resolved Issues - Early Data Analyzer The following reported issues have been resolved in Early Data Analyzer version :

17 Resolved Issues 17 Analysis/Processing When folder structure metadata corruption exists within.pst or.ost files, only a subset of messages in the file may be processed, with no indication that exceptions occurred. Embedded Images Images embedded in messages were failing to appear when launching the from within the application. These images were also failing to export when selecting the HTML or MHTML format. OCR An unnecessary Resolve filters process was occurring when selecting the Filtered documents only OCR option, causing a potentially significant delay in loading the user interface. Reports The Export Report was taking a significant amount of time to render depending on the amount of data in the case. Resolved Issues - Early Data Analyzer The following reported issues have been resolved in Early Data Analyzer version 1.6.7: Analysis/Processing An error was logged when attempting to re-analyze a container file if a large number of records with exceptions were affected by the re-analysis process (e.g. container within a mail store). Timestamps or decimals with custom formatting in Microsoft Excel documents are rounded to integer values. Export Numbering with the "Number attachments' check box selected in the Export Numbering Options dialog box potentially produced duplicate export numbers when re-analyzed

18 18 Release Notes documents were present. OCR When using the "Automatically queue document for OCR during analysis" case setting on the OCR tab in the New Case Settings or Edit Case Settings dialog box, all Adobe Acrobat *.PDF files were being queued for OCR even if valid extracted text was present. Resolved Issues - Early Data Analyzer The following reported issues have been resolved in Early Data Analyzer version 1.6.3: Analysis/Processing MBOX files over 2GB fail to inventory. Export Invalid XML characters in the native filename causes the EDRM export to fail. Microsoft Outlook messages with invalid HTML bodies may be exported with a blank body when exporting to HTML or MHTML. The plain text body will now be used in these cases. Import Files in a forensic image (E01 or DD/RAW formats) archive with a hidden or system attribute are skipped during the analysis process and cannot be searched or exported. Note: L01 images are not affected. Reports The tag counts in the Tag Summary of the Export Report were incorrect in certain scenarios. Search attachments are not searched if a search date range filter is applied and the attachment dates are null or outside of the date range. Note: This is specific to a search filter and does not apply to the global date range filter for a case. When multiple index partitions are present for a case (e.g. total docs > 250K), incomplete search results may be returned without an error if the number of unique words returned by the search exceeds 64K. Note: If the limit is reached for every index partition, an error will be reported to the user.

19 Resolved Issues 19 Resolved Issues - Early Data Analyzer The following reported issues have been resolved in Early Data Analyzer version 1.6.0: Analysis/Processing Resolved issue with exporting a specific Microsoft Outlook mail store to native (.msg) files and bodies of the s were blank in the output. Resolved critical analysis failures that were occurring with a specific Lotus Notes NSF file. Encase forensic images (*.E01 and *.L01) from a "MAC" system were failing to process in Early Data Analyzer. Export Using the 'Include s in thread' option was overriding the duplicate filter and allowing duplicate items to be exported. OCR Disabled the buttons to start OCR when a license is not available. This prevents the case from moving to a "pending" state until a license of OCR becomes available. User Interface Underscores in case names were not displaying properly in the Global Dashboard and case tab. 20 20 Release Notes Current Issues LAW PreDiscovery Current Issues - LAW PreDiscovery The following items are current issues in LAW PreDiscovery version : ED Loader 7zip processing is much slower than the current archive processing due to limitations of the toolkit used for extraction. This issue will be addressed in a future release of LAW PreDiscovery. Decompression of JPEG images in ZIPX archives is not supported. Decompression of JPEG images in ZIPX archives is not supported. Warnings are logged for the affected files during the import process. Users can then perform the extraction manually (or with another tool) outside of LAW PreDiscovery. Support for this format will be attempted in a future release. Endorse When using the Page, Pages, or PageID fields to endorse PDF images, the field names must have the correct capitalization (as shown) in the Header/Footer options in order for the field values to appear on the image: &[Pages], &[Page], &[Page ID]. For example, if &[Page Id] (note the lower-case d ) is entered in the Header/Footer options, each page will be endorsed with &[Page Id] instead of the actual page ID. This issue will be resolved in the next release of LAW PreDiscovery. To avoid the issue in the current version, use the buttons provided in the interface to add these fields versus manually keying in the field names. Near-Duplicate & Thread Analysis Performing near-duplicate analysis with a tag restriction after already performing nearduplicate analysis on all documents in a case can have unexpected results.

21 Current Issues 21 Clearing previous near-duplicate analysis results will prevent this issue. Run commands to clear the data are available please for details. PDF Support The PDF conversion process may fail on certain Microsoft Office documents on supported 64-bit operating systems (Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2) with 32-bit Office Currently, the workaround is to run the conversion using an alternate system configuration (32- or 64-bit operating system with Office 2007 or 32-bit operating system with Office 2010). Markup (e.g., comments, arrows, lines) existing in (raw image) imported PDFs will not be viewable in the LAW PreDiscovery image viewer and will not appear in the output when printed. As an alternative, the PDFs can be imported using ED Loader and, if needed, converted to TIFF or PDF. Scanning The File Type scanner output value may become stuck (cannot be changed from dropdown list) in certain scenarios when using the scan toolbar. Close and re-open the scan toolbar to resolve the issue. LAW will close unexpectedly when the Edit > Insert > Scanned Document function is selected if a scanner is not configured in LAW. Ensure a scanner is properly configured in LAW prior to accessing this scan function. Splitting PDFs by Bookmark Following a full-text search, an error message will appear when selecting a record in the main LAW PreDiscovery form after performing a split PDF operation on that record. After closing the error message dialog box, navigate to a different folder and then back to the original record. The view will be refreshed, with the newly-created documents shown, and the error will no longer appear.

22 22 Release Notes Early Data Analyzer Current Issues - Early Data Analyzer The following items are current issues in Early Data Analyzer version 1.6.0: Export The export will attempt to run out-of-date searches prior to exporting to ensure the correct documents are queued (expected behavior). However, if the export is canceled, Early Data Analyzer will complete the search execution instead of cancelling immediately. Similarly, if a search error occurs, Early Data Analyzer will continue to execute all applicable searches prior to failing the export. These issues will be addressed in a future software release. The Client field value will include several trailing spaces in the DAT load file. This issue only occurs in Early Data Analyzer version EDRM load files are not affected. This issue will be resolved in the next release of Early Data Analyzer. Filters Custom hash values cannot be imported from a folder if the path exceeds Microsoft Windows file path limitations. If possible, shorten the path to the folder prior to importing the hashes. Import Decompression of JPEG images in ZIPX archives is not supported. Warnings are logged for the affected files during the import process. Users can then perform the extraction manually (or with another tool) outside of LAW PreDiscovery. Support for this format will be attempted in a future release. Exporting to a long path (exceeding Microsoft Windows file path limitations) will cause the export to fail. The workaround is to specify an export Output Directory that does not exceed Windows file path limitations. An exception may occur when clicking the Edit link to customize the folder selection on

23 Current Issues 23 the Import tab if the folder path exceeds Microsoft Windows file path limitations. While the files within the folders marked for inclusion should still import successfully, please perform quality control to ensure accuracy or place in a shorter path if possible prior to import. Reporting The Document Timeline report may fail with an unhandled exception in larger cases (e.g. 10 million documents). Restrict the date range to include fewer documents to avoid this issue. This issue will be addressed in a future software release. Search Hit highlighting does not work properly for XML and CSV files in Early Data Analyzer and Early Data Analyzer Web. The incorrect words are highlighted. This issue will be resolved in the next release of Early Data Analyzer.
