4 4 Release Notes LAW PreDiscovery 6.8 Release Notes May 27, 2015 Version The LAW PreDiscovery Release Notes provide a list of new features, resolved issues, and current issues in LAW PreDiscovery version and LexisNexis Early Data Analyzer version The current issues may be addressed in an update or other future release of LAW PreDiscovery. On July 13, 2015, LAW PreDiscovery version and Early Data Analyzer version was released. This release contains a number of fixes for issues found in previous releases. On July 27, 2015, LAW PreDiscovery version was released. This release contains a number of fixes for issues found in previous releases. Enhancements LAW PreDiscovery Enhancements - LAW PreDiscovery The following enhancement has been added to LAW PreDiscovery version : New Features Placeholders Comments can now be added to custom placeholders when a placeholder template is selected for a document from the Placeholder_Name field in the grid view or on the Index tab, and the document is being converted to a TIFF or PDF file. This functionality is not currently available for e-printing from the grid view. Enhancements - LAW PreDiscovery The following enhancements have been added to LAW PreDiscovery version : New Features Licensing Software can now be licensed via software key in addition to the USB key.

6 6 Release Notes Near-Duplicate & Thread Analysis threading and near duplicate processing can now run independently of one another. The ET_Indent field is created by the Thread Analysis process to reflect the nested reply level of s analyzed. Placeholders Custom Placeholders can be created, edited, and deleted on a case level from the Separator Page Options dialog box. Custom Placeholders can be assigned in the grid view and will be processed during batch TIFF/PDF conversion and e-print. User Documentation Answer Center topics can now be launched directly from the LAW PreDiscovery Help. Modifications ED Loader The ED Loader compound document processing has been replaced with the EDA compound document processing. The ED Loader archive processing has been replaced with the EDA archive processing. Endorse The use of ImagXpress SDK has been eliminated. Modified the current method of endorsing single page PDF files to avoid unnecessary file conversions. Header and footer height is now set to be incremental at.25 inches. Search The LAW PreDiscovery search engine is now upgraded to dtsearch version User Documentation

7 Enhancements 7 Removed the Law50.chm file from the LAW PreDiscovery installer. The LAW50.chm file is no longer added to the LAW50 directory during installation. Early Data Analyzer Enhancements - Early Data Analyzer The following enhancements have been added to LexisNexis Early Data Analyzer version : New Features Analysis/Processing Information on the file size and number of analysis attempts is now provided (during analysis only) on the Global Dashboard. Threading The ET_Indent field is now created by the thread analysis process to reflect the nested reply level of s analyzed. This field is available for searching and exporting. Global Dashboard The Service Processes check box for selecting and clearing all process check boxes is now added to the Modify Service Client Processes dialog box. Licensing Software can now be licensed via software key in addition to the USB key. Reports Added search sets and searches in the search sets to the Search Report. Search Search sets can be created to contain groups of searches for organization and ease of management. Searches can be assigned names instead of using the search string as the identifying

Multiple searches can be selected and edited, including viewing and updating applied search filters, and assigning searches to specific search sets. Duplicate search terms can now be imported and added to Early Data Analyzer. Search terms can now be exported from Early Data Analyzer. Modifications Reports The File size format list is now added to the Settings section for reports, and determines whether file sizes on a report are displayed in GB or MB. Search The Early Data Analyzer search engine is now upgraded to dtsearch version Empty search queries can now be created in Early Data Analyzer. Users no longer need to enter XLastWord or XFirstWord to return the complete document set. User Documentation Removed the Law50.chm file from the Early Data Analyzer installer. The LAW 50.chm file is no longer added to the LAW50 directory during installation. Help in Early Data Analyzer now opens the LAW Answer Center website instead of the CHM Help file. Searches can be assigned names instead of using the search string as the identifying text. The tag search filter [Untagged Documents] is now added to the Search Filters - Tags dialog box, and allows for searching for documents that do not have any tags applied. Query Builder Unable to search date fields due to the date picker not being displayed for the Value field in the Database Query Builder dialog box. Resolved Issues - LAW PreDiscovery The following reported issues have been resolved in LAW PreDiscovery version : Compound Documents Binary Microsoft PowerPoint files would only import the first embedded file.

11 Resolved Issues 11 Bitmaps embedded in RTF files may not have been extracted properly. Certain types of OLE embedded mail attachments Microsoft Office binary files would fail to extract. Microsoft PowerPoint 95 files would not extract embedded items. Endorsing Changes to fonts/font size may not have been reflected on endorsements. Export Highlights may have failed to merge properly when exporting to single page without the "Retain Color" option enabled. The color format of an image could incorrectly be written to load files for "indata's Trial Director" and "IPRO IntelliVIEW". When exporting using '<Original Filename>' as the naming scheme, if a duplicate name in the same folder was encountered, only a single file would be exported. Installation The installer was not digitally signed. TIFF/PDF Conversion and E-printing Grayscale images were produced in black and white. Resolved Issues - LAW PreDiscovery The following reported issues have been resolved in LAW PreDiscovery version : Analysis/Processing AttachLvl field was not updating from 1 to 0 when detaching document. Certain NSF files would fail to process due to a quota exception on a view. Large MBOX/DBX files would run out of disk space while extracting. Batch Processing

12 12 Release Notes While performing TIFF conversion, with 'Reduce to Optimal Palate' in color Reduction, an error message ("Color Optimization process failed") was displayed. Corrected an issue where "!" in the password did not allow the document to be tiffed using the batch tiff process. Distributed Processing In rare cases, MSG files tiffed during batch processing would result in incorrect images. ED Loader s in MHT format will now be processed by default by ED Loader. Thread Analysis Resolved issue where if there are different messages that have the same or very similar body text (e.g, "FYI") then they may be incorrectly grouped into the same thread, rather than multiple threads for unrelated messages. Export Black and white and color images converted to TIFF in optimal compression are exporting as JPEG when output format is set to DEFAULT. Color pages should be JPEG, and black and white should be TIFF. Image Manipulation Corrected issue where the image was being lost when one page had the OCR flag set to N and the subsequent pages were set to Y. Metadata Resolved issue where PDF date created was populated with the date of ingestion. Native Documents Error occurs when attempting to open native file from native link in LAW PreDiscovery: "Error occurred while loading the specified image. <Source> =..<Error> = Image file format is not supported. (4457)". Corrected an issue that was causing EML to MSG Conversion Natives to open as Unsent. Files imported from Native Viewer in Concordance renders poor quality in LAW PreDiscovery.

13 Resolved Issues 13 Near-Duplicate Analysis Fixed issues where a SQL command timed out during the delete phase when performing near-duplicate analysis on large datasets. Placeholders When running a distributed TIFF job, with no placeholder options set, some files were randomly assigned a P value for the Tiffstatus, where it was expected to see an E value (as no placeholder is set). Printing Fixed issue where error occurred when "Send jobs in batches of N pages" was enabled. Scan Added extra validations whenever a user tries to append pages. The validation check and prompt will occur before scanning in the pages. Search Corrected issue where user could not select custodian in query builder when clicking on the ellipses. Text (OCR, Extracted, Printed) Using Auto Deskew option would cause LAW to go into a non-responding state. TIFF/PDF Conversion and E-printing Fixed issue where customer was not able to delete large Excel TIFF images, after tiffing. Could not tiff with both placeholder options ("Print placeholders for excluded/ unsupported documents" and "Print placeholders for document that error during conversion") unchecked. When changing the assigned printer to 300 DPI printer from the main view (File > Print Setup), the following error is encountered: "Unable to open the specified printer, changes will not be saved." Early Data Analyzer Resolved Issues - Early Data Analyzer

14 14 Release Notes The following reported issues have been resolved in LexisNexis Early Data Analyzer version : Compound Documents Binary Microsoft PowerPoint files would only import the first embedded file. Microsoft PowerPoint 95 files would not extract embedded items. Search When creating a new case or opening a case with no searches, the columns of the search list could be shrunken. Resolved Issues - Early Data Analyzer The following reported issues have been resolved in LexisNexis Early Data Analyzer version : Analysis/Processing Importing PST into EDA 1.72 caused a critical analysis error: "Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection". Corrected issue where only MSG file was captured into a case and Microsoft Word attachment was excluded. Fixed issue where MSG metadata (FROM, TO, SUBJECT) extracted as Unicode in Corrected issue that caused performance of large cases to run slow when the [Duplicate] field was being updated. Correctly handle the inability for EDA to extract files contained in a forensic image which appear to be corrupt. Properly handle processing a very large forensic image containing many embedded containers with more embedded containers can produce an out of memory error which would cause the EDA Agent to crash. Correctly handles cases that are missing the offset/timezone but are otherwise accurate. Now any dates in EML files that are read and do not have an offset/timezone will be assumed to be UTC.

15 Resolved Issues 15 Compound Documents The compound document extraction was encountering an OutOfMemoryError and skipping the documents that it could not process rather than logging an exception. Content Extraction Now allows archived XLS files to be extracted. Document List Corrected performance issue where the document list was loading slowly on large cases with many filters. Thread Analysis Issue resolved where quotes around display name affected address parsing. Filters Made changes in the way LAW handles file types flagged as deleted in order to correct an issue where EDA and LAW File Type numbers did not match. Indexing Changed the default threshold for the amount of text that EDA will attempt to index to resolve out of memory issues. Search Search Report Result By Custodian displays the files identified for all the searches not only for the selected/chosen search term. Tagging Corrected inablility to use tag scroll bar the first time you open tag management on a document. Early Data Analyzer Web Resolved Issues - Early Data Analyzer Web

This issue only applies to LAW PreDiscovery version 6.8.x. This issue will be addressed in a future release of LAW PreDiscovery. ED Loader Password encrypted archives are not being extracted when using the password file.

17 Current Issues 17 This issue only applies to LAW PreDiscovery version 6.8.x. This issue will be addressed in a future release of LAW PreDiscovery. 7zip processing is much slower than the current archive processing due to limitations of the toolkit used for extraction. This issue will be addressed in a future release of LAW PreDiscovery. Decompression of JPEG images in ZIPX archives is not supported. Decompression of JPEG images in ZIPX archives is not supported. Warnings are logged for the affected files during the import process. Users can then perform the extraction manually (or with another tool) outside of LAW PreDiscovery. Support for this format will be attempted in a future release. The issue of MIME headers (e.g. Date: Wed, 06 Aug :47: ) being visible (in certain viewers) when saving s to MHTML during ED Loader imports was resolved in LAW PreDiscovery version 6.7; however, this issue still occurs with Note Microsoft Outlook items. This issue is caused by a third-party component used by LAW PreDiscovery. We will attempt to address this in a future release. "Object variable width block not set" error occurs when attempting to load OST files created with Microsoft Outlook Due to the lack of a specification, the 3rd party component used to process OST does not support OST files created with Microsoft Outlook This issue will be resolved in a future release. This issue only applies to LAW PreDiscovery versions 6.5.x, 6.6.x, 6.7.x, and 6.8.x. Convert the OST file to PST using third-party component and then process as PST. Endorsing When endorsing PDF files with comments, the comments may be lost. This issue will be addressed in a future release of LAW PreDiscovery. Import

18 18 Release Notes Images over 2GB in size may fail to import. This issue is due to a limitation of a 3rd party component. To correct the issue, reduce the file size utilizing a 3rd party application that supports images over 2GB prior to importing. Unable to import OST files created with Microsoft Outlook Due to the lack of a specification, the 3rd party component used to process OST does not support OST files created with Microsoft Outlook This issue will be resolved in a future release. This issue only applies to LAW PreDiscovery versions 6.5.x, 6.6.x, 6.7.x, and 6.8.x. Convert the OST file to PST using third-party component and then process as PST. OCR Distributed OCR using ABBYY 11 fails with "Client excluded from job. Reason: *Abort Condition* Job requires ABBYY Fine Reader Ocr Engine which is not installed on this station" error. This issue only applies to LAW PreDiscovery versions 6.7.x and 6.8.x. Please contact technical support for workaround. This issue will be addressed in a future release of LAW PreDiscovery. PDF Support The PDF conversion process may fail on certain Microsoft Office documents on supported 64-bit operating systems (Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2) with 32-bit Office Currently, the workaround is to run the conversion using an alternate system configuration (32- or 64-bit operating system with Office 2007 or 32-bit operating system with Office 2010). Markup (e.g., comments, arrows, lines) existing in (raw image) imported PDFs will not be viewable in the LAW PreDiscovery image viewer and will not appear in the output when printed. As an alternative, the PDFs can be imported using ED Loader and, if needed, converted to TIFF or PDF.

19 Current Issues 19 Scanning The File Type scanner output value may become stuck (cannot be changed from dropdown list) in certain scenarios when using the scan toolbar. Close and re-open the scan toolbar to resolve the issue. LAW will close unexpectedly when the Edit > Insert > Scanned Document function is selected if a scanner is not configured in LAW PreDiscovery. Ensure a scanner is properly configured in LAW prior to accessing this scan function. Software Licensing The LAW Management Console (LMC) may improperly report negative license counts when the license server is set to localhost. This issue only applies to LAW PreDiscovery version 6.8.x. Install product keys on one single server and point all machines to that server. TIFF/PDF Conversion and E-printing LexisNexis Image Drivers are renamed when upgrading to LAW PreDiscovery version 6.7 to resolve an issue with a This printer is currently set to black and white mode pop-up error message that halted the conversion process. If the drivers are not renamed during the upgrade (e.g. permissions issue arises), please use the workaround if this error was a problem for you in previous versions or to avoid the issue should it arise in the future. The two image drivers can be renamed manually, provided the user permissions are sufficient. The new names are LexisNexis Image Driver (no quotes formerly LexisNexis Image Driver 5.0) and LexisNexis Image Driver 300 DPI (no quotes formerly LexisNexis Image Driver 5.0 (300 DPI) ). If a second set of image drivers are added during the upgrade, simply remove the original set which include the 5.0 in the driver names. Early Data Analyzer Current Issues - Early Data Analyzer The following items are current issues in LexisNexis Early Data Analyzer version :

20 20 Release Notes Compound Document Extraction Compound documents with embedded edrawing files may be extracted as a bin file. This issue only applies to Early Data Analyzer versions 1.7.x and 1.8.x. This issue will be addressed in a future release of Early Data Analyzer. Export Exporting to a long path (exceeding Microsoft Windows file path limitations) will cause the export to fail. The workaround is to specify an export Output Directory that does not exceed Windows file path limitations. The export will attempt to run out-of-date searches prior to exporting to ensure the correct documents are queued (expected behavior). However, if the export is canceled, Early Data Analyzer will complete the search execution instead of cancelling immediately. Similarly, if a search error occurs, Early Data Analyzer will continue to execute all applicable searches prior to failing the export. These issues will be addressed in a future software release. Filters Custom hash values cannot be imported from a folder if the path exceeds Microsoft Windows file path limitations. If possible, shorten the path to the folder prior to importing the hashes. Import Manually adding a custodian and renaming the custodian on the Import tab causes Early Data Analyzer to reindex the entire case instead of only indexing the newly added files. This issue occurs when you click the Add Custodian button on the Import tab, and then modify the default custodian name (New Custodian [#]) assigned by Early Data Analyzer. Add custodians to a case using the upper or lower drop files and folders boxes located

21 Current Issues 21 below the Delete Custodian(s) button. This issue only applies to Early Data Analyzer versions 1.7.x, 1.8.x, and 1.9.x. This issue will be resolved in a future release. Decompression of JPEG images in ZIPX archives is not supported. Warnings are logged for the affected files during the import process. Users can then perform the extraction manually (or with another tool) outside of LAW PreDiscovery. Support for this format will be attempted in a future release. An exception may occur when clicking the Edit link to customize the folder selection on the Import tab if the folder path exceeds Microsoft Windows file path limitations. While the files within the folders marked for inclusion should still import successfully, please perform quality control to ensure accuracy or place in a shorter path if possible prior to import. Unable to import OST files created with Microsoft Outlook Due to the lack of a specification, the 3rd party component used to process OST does not support OST files created with Microsoft Outlook This issue will be resolved in a future release. This issue only applies to Early Data Analyzer versions 1.5.x, 1.6.x, 1.7.x, and 1.8.x. Convert the OST file to PST using third-party component and then process as PST. Near-Duplicate Analysis Near-duplicate analysis may be run on a case after re-indexing. The near-duplicate process can be disabled prior to re-indexing. Reporting The Document Timeline report may fail with an unhandled exception in larger cases (e.g. 10 million documents). Restrict the date range to include fewer documents to avoid this issue. This issue will be addressed in a future software release.
