4 4 Release Notes LAW PreDiscovery Release Notes March 29, 2013 Version The LAW PreDiscovery Release Notes provide a list of new features, resolved issues, and current issues in LAW PreDiscovery version and Early Data Analyzer version The current issues may be addressed in an update or other future release of LAW PreDiscovery. On May 13, 2013, LAW PreDiscovery version and Early Data Analyzer version was released. This release contains a number of fixes for issues found in previous releases. On June 17, 2013, LAW PreDiscovery version was released. This release contains a number of fixes for issues found in previous releases. Enhancements Enhancements LAW PreDiscovery version The following modification has been added to LAW PreDiscovery version No enhancements were added to Early Data Analyzer version Modifications ED Loader Added new setting, "Legacy Mode (produces hashes compatible with LAW 6.2 and lower)", as a sub-option of the "Preserve X.400 addresses" setting. When enabled, this setting will disable extraction of SMTP sender addresses from Internet headers when they are not available in the MAPI properties for Outlook messages so that s are hashed consistently with previous versions. *NOTE: This setting should not be used for new cases created and processed with version 6.3 or higher. Enhancements LAW PreDiscovery version The following enhancements have been added to LAW PreDiscovery version and Early Data Analyzer version 1.3.0: New Features Database Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (including Express Edition) is now supported as a case database.

6 6 Release Notes Deduplication The new Apply Duplicate Relationships command is now added to the Tools menu to log the relationships and locations between duplicate families. Four new system fields have been added to hold the data: DupCustNames DupCustPaths DupParentName DupParentPath Early Data Analyzer Analysis/Processing Added support for EnCase Export Witness Format (EWF) forensic image files (*.e01). Segmented images in this format are also supported (*.e01, *.e02, *.e03, etc.). Support for *.L01 images is not included. Note: Physical drive images are not supported in this release, only images from logical drives are supported. A 64-bit LexisNexis.EdAnalyzer.exe client is now supported and is located in the <LAW install path>\edanalyzer64 folder. The existing shortcut for EDA on the desktop and program group will be updated to reference the 64-bit client when the update is installed on a 64-bit operating system. Support for WinZip ZIPX archive files is now added. Note: Decompression of JPEG images in ZIPX archives is not currently supported. Early Data Analyzer service-level tasks can now be customized via the Global Dashboard > Services tab > Enabled Processes link. The folder selection of a source can now be customized from the Folders column in the Sources section on the Import tab after adding custodian / source data, but prior to running analysis. The Session field is now added to the Import tab for creating and applying customizable session labels. The session labels may be searched using the ImportSession field on the Search tab's Guided Search tab. Database Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (including Express Edition) is now supported as a case database. Deduplication The new Custodian Deduplication Priority dialog box is now added to the Filters tab, and can be launched from the Edit link in the Duplicate Document Filter. This feature

7 Enhancements 7 allows you to control which custodians' documents are flagged as originals versus duplicates. Early Data Analyzer Web The Early Data Analyzer Web interface is now available for searching, filtering, and tagging data sets. Exceptions The new Re-Analyze All button is now added to the Exceptions tab. This feature can be used to re-send all documents grouped within applicable exception types through the analysis process, rather than clicking the Re-Analyze button for each individual document. Note: Re-analyzing documents will delete and reprocess the entire family for items causing the unique inventory ID for those records to change. Export Multiple export sets can now be created in a case on the Export tab. Each export set is independent of other sets and can be classified as one of two types: LAW PreDiscovery or Native. Once the first export in a case is created, click the Manage link to add additional export sets, if needed. The contents of Early Data Analyzer cases can now be exported natively to the following load file formats: DAT or EDRM XML 1.0. Create a native export set on the Export tab to view and configure available options and start the export. Items that received errors during the export can now be reset (and retried for export) from the interface by clicking the Reset link next to the Errors count on the Export tab. Filters The NIST digest can now be downloaded directly from the NSRL/NIST Web site and loaded into a SQL database from the Filters tab using the new Configure NIST Database dialog box, allowing you to use the most up-to-date versions of the NIST digest as soon as they become available. The denist process can be run after analysis to process legacy cases with the newest version of the NIST, and is no longer an optional setting on the Analysis tab in the Case Settings dialog box. The new Inc. (include) and Exc. (exclude) columns are now added to each of the filter types, with the exception of the Date Range Filter. The check boxes in the Inc. and Exc. columns are deselected for newly imported data (though still considered to be included by default), allowing you to easily detect which filter definitions have not been reviewed and explicitly included or excluded (File Type Filter, Sender Domain Filter, and Language Filter only). The "Show" drop-down allows you to filter based on the check box selections in the Inc. and Exc. columns.

8 8 Release Notes Reporting The Search Report may now be scoped by custodian and/or search term. The new Include items with 0 results check box is now added to the Search Report configuration settings. The Filter Summary report and Search Report may now be customized by selecting only the sections you wish to include on the report. File sizes (in GB) are now included in the Detailed Filter Settings sections of the Filter Summary report. The Unique Hits count and Unique Size (GB) values are now included in the Results by Term section on the Search Report. Search The family size of records returned by the searches is now displayed for saved search queries in the Size MB column on the Search tab. ED Loader Support for WinZip ZIPX archive files is now added. Note: Decompression of JPEG images in ZIPX archives is not currently supported. Two new metadata extraction options are added on the Settings tab to detect speaker notes and hidden slides in Microsoft PowerPoint files. The setting to detect comments for Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel files was also extended to support Microsoft PowerPoint files. Endorse Searchable Adobe Acrobat PDF files can now be endorsed without being converted to image-only PDF files. Full Text Report Full text search reports can now be restricted to a specified tag. Uniqueness for selected searches can now be calculated for full text searches. Native Review The new Lotus Notes Review Mode setting is now added to the Open File menu to streamline quality control reviews between extracted content and items in Lotus Notes mail stores. When enabled, LAW PreDiscovery will automatically synchronize the display of the native item in Lotus Notes with the current record.

9 Enhancements 9 TIFF/PDF Conversions and E-printing The edrawings Viewer version 2013 is now supported as a source application for native printing or converting files to TIFF or PDF files. LAW PreDiscovery version 6.3 only supports edrawings Viewer version 2013 (32-bit version only). Modifications Data Access Modified data access to improve SQL performance under heavy loads and significantly reduce memory usage by SQL Server in the following areas: ED Loader, LMC, and TIFF/ PDF conversions. Early Data Analyzer Case Dashboard The Inventoried, Yield, and Growth fields are now removed from the Case Summary section. The Total Documents count no longer includes container items (e.g. archives, mail stores) but does include contents for the supported types. The Total Documents size is a family size (no container files in the calculation). A Total Containers field is now added to the Case Summary section to represent the container file count and size. Filters Each time a filter definition is modified, followed by a 30-second "system idle" period (meaning no filters are being updated in those 30 seconds), a Resolve Filters process will be sent to the service to carry out the filter update. This process may take a few moments. Container files (e.g. ZIP archive) now no longer appear in the Filters view since they cannot be excluded (unless the contents are excluded). Import The "Filter custodians by name" text box has been shifted to the left, above the Add Custodian button on the Import tab. OCR The OCR Document button is now renamed to Queue document for OCR. After clicking the Queue document for OCR button, click the Refresh link that appears to see the text (if supported for OCR) or view the OCR tab to see the status.

10 10 Release Notes Performance Two settings are now added to the Indexer tab in the Case Settings dialog box to control the number of threads used for indexing and searching, potentially reducing strain on the SQL server when these processes are taking place. Reporting Counts of container items (e.g. ZIP archives) are now removed from the Export, File Type Summary, and Filter Summary reports, as well as the Export Inclusion and Exclusion Logs. This is to prevent items from being accounted for twice in the reports. Major performance improvements were made to the User Audit Log, Export Inclusion, and Export Exclusion Logs. An Export Name drop-down list is now added to the Export Report settings to allow scoping of the report to a specific export. Search The InventoryId field is now added to the list of available fields for searching. Container files (e.g. ZIP archive) now no longer appear in search results since they cannot be excluded (unless the contents are excluded). User Interface The Start Analysis button is now renamed to Start Import on the Import tab. The functionality associated with clicking this button has not changed. The Render Report button is now renamed to Create Report on the Reports tab. The Create Report button, as well as the Generate Log button (when applicable), are shifted to the bottom of the panel. ED Loader If an X.400 address is found in the MAPI properties for a Microsoft Outlook message, the Internet headers are now parsed for an SMTP sender address regardless of the preserve X.400 setting state, and the SMTP address is always given precedence over an X.400 address. Export The <Reviews> section will no longer appear in EDRM load files generated by LAW PreDiscovery. Any fields that previously appeared in this section are now included in the <Tags> section.

11 Enhancements 11 TIFF/PDF Conversions and E-printing The new PrintJobName field is now added to capture the name of the job in the print spooler for TIFF/PDF conversions. This field allows additional errors to be logged if multiple jobs are detected in the spooler for a conversion or the name of the job in the spooler does not match the expected job name for a document. Note: Special attention must be given to any errors prefixed with "Multiple jobs detected" or "Print job name does not match expected format" to inspect the captured image against the original for correctness. User Interface The Page ID below the main image display will remain right-aligned with the image as it was in LAW PreDiscovery versions prior to version 6.2. 12 12 Release Notes _PS_NativeX was set to 1 even if no native was copied into LAW PreDiscovery during imports (only present in LAW PreDiscovery versions and ). Distributed imports from Early Data Analyzer were not functioning correctly on stations that were remotely started by LMC (LAW Management Console) (all previous versions). Embedded images were not retained when saving Microsoft Outlook messages to HTML or MHTML if the source was formatted in HTML (only present LAW PreDiscovery version ). Imports from Early Data Analyzer resulted in errors on files contained in forensic images (*.E01) (only present in LAW PreDiscovery versions and ). Using the Insert -> E-Documents -> Before/After function resulted in attachments being incorrectly linked to a previous document if the inserted document contained attachments (all previous versions). Exports An "Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal" error is logged for exported parent records when the "Omit text for tagged documents" setting is enabled in the Export Utility. While the text does get omitted as expected, the corresponding attachment records will be missing certain attachmentrelated field values in the load file (e.g. AttRange, EndAttach, Attach), if included for export (only present in LAW PreDiscovery versions and ). iconect load file contained an extra empty <Document> tag (only present in LAW PreDiscovery versions and ). Licensing If the license server is unavailable or not responding temporarily and returns an error code other than 71, LAW PreDiscovery will not attempt to reconnect to the license server and will shut down the application (all previous versions). Undocked keys would fail to authorize and cause application to close shortly after starting the application (only present in LAW PreDiscovery versions and ). Resolved Issues - LAW PreDiscovery The following reported issues have been resolved in LAW PreDiscovery version and Early Data Analyzer version 1.3.5: Batch Image Print: An error dialog of "Unexpected error occurred adding job to queue manager" may occur in rare cases if the spool to file and auto-size paper options are enabled during batch image prints to paper (all previous versions).

13 Resolved Issues 13 In rare cases, an "invalid access rights" error may be logged and cause certain pages to fail to print when using the "Send jobs in batches of N" setting for batch image prints to paper (all previous versions). Batch Process: Batch processing would hang on startup when using a temporary license (version only). During the E-Print process, printing native files to a network printer failed with an invalid printer name error (version only). In some cases, converting PDF and MSG files would result in an false warning about the print job name not matching the expected format (version only). Early Data Analyzer Export Analysis may fail on some mail stores if analysis has to be restarted for any reason. The native export process fails when an with a long subject (~ 197+ characters) is encountered. The native export process fails when attempting to decrypt a password-protected file that does not contain an extension. ED Loader Importing Outlook mail stores that contain a large number of items with embedded images would result in a gradual memory leak when the output format was set to HTML. If enough memory was leaked, no further items could be processed until ED Loader was restarted (versions and ). In extremely rare cases, specific to certain data sets, a commit error may be indicated in the counters, and fail to be logged during distributed imports with deduplication enabled (all previous versions). The issue that caused the commit error, a SQL transaction deadlock was also resolved to handle the rollback correctly and eliminate the commit error. Exports An invalid procedure call error is logged when exporting Outlook s to the BlueTrace format (version only). File extensions are included in the "Image Page" field in the iconect load file. Image Replacement

14 14 Release Notes Performing a replace image operation on a PDF that was imported as a raw image or scanned and then endorsed results in the original PDF being re-used if another endorse operation is performed on the new PDF (version only). Search The "Tag Text Hits" function within the Full Text Search Reports screen did not respect the new tag restriction filter that was added in version The restriction filter was limited to the search counts and reports. Resolved Issues - LAW PreDiscovery The following reported issues have been resolved in LAW PreDiscovery version and Early Data Analyzer version 1.3.0: Early Data Analyzer Analysis/Processing Multiple agents were allowed to process the same mail store under certain conditions. The body content from messages in a specific Lotus Notes mail store was failing to extract. Results varied in Lotus Notes version 8.0 versus version 8.5. Implemented the ability to extract content from rich text items within a Lotus Notes NSF file. Implemented a fix for an attachment within a specific Lotus Notes NSF store that was failing to extract. Added OLE package support to analysis and extraction. Note: This will alter attachment hashes due to different attachment filenames and data. Content Viewer Documents with a very large amount of extracted text were causing an exception when searched and trying to click to view the record. The complete text, including hit highlights, can now be viewed by clicking the "Document text truncated..." link which will launch an html version of the content. Deduplication In rare cases, some OLE attachments may generate volatile hashes causing unique hash values to be generated for duplicate s.

15 Resolved Issues 15 Filters The application would crash when attempting to re-identify custom hash items on large cases. Reporting A "timeout expired" error was occurring when attempting to run the Exception report or Document Timeline report in a large case. Times were displayed beside the dates in the Date Range Filter section of the Filter Summary report when saved to MS Excel. Search attachments will now be returned in search results even if they are excluded in the filters. The attachments would get exported anyway if the parent or other attachment to the message were exported. ED Loader Certain Microsoft Word documents were causing ED Loader to hang when the option to "Identify hidden text content" was enabled in the Text Extraction settings. Date timestamps did not account for DST on Windows 7 for docs without metadata (TXT, GIF, DWG, etc.). Modified body extraction for Lotus Notes to address missing bodies in multiple scenarios. Slashes in Outlook folder names ("\\\/") were preventing the affected folder(s) from being created in LAW's folder structure. The " Date Range Exclusions" filtering was being applied to MSGs that were attached to other s. The AttachPID was not updating properly when inserting an e-doc attachment after another attachment. The bodies of Lotus Notes "Notice" items (MsgClass=Notice) were not being extracted. The ED Loader was failing to capture file system timestamps, when applicable. The following index fields are not populated and no warning is logged: DateCreated, TimeCreated, DateLastMod, TimeLastMod, DateAccessed, and TimeAccessed (version only). The ED Loader was getting stuck in an endless loop during distributed imports when attempting to process a specific mail store containing a corrupt attachment. The EDSourceID was getting assigned incorrectly after resuming processing under

16 16 Release Notes specific conditions (non-distributed jobs only). The equal character (=) was showing up in the native file and extracted text in certain MBOX/EML/EMLX messages due to the presence of quoted printable soft returns with UNIX-style line breaks in the originals. The subject line for Lotus Notes Appointment and Notice message types was not appearing in the output htm and extracted text (but did appear in the metadata as expected) (version only). When processed as a non-distributed ED Loader job, folders containing slashes in the name within password-protected PSTs were not being created in the LAW folder structure. Endorse The section sign ( ) was not being retained in the header/footer options between endorse sessions. Also, if additional machines joined a distributed endorse job, this character would not appear on the images endorsed by those machines. Exports Any field selected for export that started with the word "Time" was not being included in the EDRM exports. Exported images would get overwritten if <Original Filename> was used as the file naming scheme and images in the same folder had the same name. The first duplicate encountered will now be appended with "(Copy 1)" to make the filename unique. This behavior already exists for native file exports. The Concordance ImportText.cpt and Createhyperlinks.cpt files created during an export from LAW were pointing to the wrong location in MS Windows XP. The EDRM XML 2.0 load file generated by LAW incorrectly contained "Single" for the "Page" value when the associated image was actually multipage. The iconect *.XML load file generated by LAW contained extra document breaks (</ Document>) between pages within the same document. The Image Page field in the iconect *.XML load file generated by LAW was being populated with the page filename instead of the Bates number / PageID. The last column in the IPRO *.LFP load file generated by LAW contained "4" for TIFF images instead of the expected "2" value. The URI field in the EDRM XML 2.0 load file generated by LAW was pointing to the native file source path instead of the full destination path. When exporting attachment records only from LAW, the incremental folder setting was being ignored and all files were placed in the same folder.

17 Resolved Issues 17 Grid View An "invalid recordset object" error would occur when attempting to sort the grid after running a query on an extended property field (e.g. HasHiddenSheet). Image Manipulation An error ("You have specified a dimension larger than 32K pixels") would pop up when attempting to split images based on barcodes after setting a scan region on the image. An error would occur ("Item cannot be found...") when attempting to split PDF records with custom metadata. Native Print Footers were being printed on Notes pages in MS PowerPoint files when selecting the option to print Slides and Notes, regardless of the state of the "Do not print footers" and "Do not print date/time stamps" settings. If the setting to print hidden text was enabled in MS Word, but de-selected in LAW's print options for Word, the hidden text would still get revealed in the print output. Script errors that appear when printing with Internet Explorer are now automatically closed and logged. Implemented fix to account for a MS Excel issue that results in the auto-size row height setting not to work properly. Options within the print driver (e.g. stapling) were not being retained when set by accessing the printer settings through LAW. Printing documents with Internet Explorer that did not contain a valid HTML extension resulted in raw HTML codes in the output file. Under certain conditions, the current user name is populated in the "Detailed Summary" section for revisions in MS Word documents. OCR A "Can't replace a page in an empty document" error was occurring when trying to OCR PDF files with Auto deskew enabled. Reporting A "timeout expired" error was occurring when attempting to generate the Exception report in large cases.

18 18 Release Notes Scanning Attempting to scan a batch of color pages to a single document in serialized JPEG format resulted in only the first page being saved. The Replace Document operation was not setting the storage schema correctly (version only). Text Indexing Attempting to check out the Full Text Indexing license and then index after an import was failing and logging "Object required" errors. Update Page Data Under certain conditions, an error would occur when attempting to run the Update Page Data batch process. Please contact LAW Technical Support if you need an immediate resolution; however, this issue is resolved in a soon-to-be-released hot fix. Resolved in version The E-Print process will fail with a printer name is invalid error message when utilizing a network printer. Use a local printer to avoid this error. This issue is resolved in a soon-to-be-released hot fix. Resolved in version False Print job name does not match expected format warnings are being logged for PDF files containing titles (in the metadata) and certain MSG files. This issue is resolved in a soon-to-be-released hot fix. Resolved in version A gradual memory leak occurs when embedded images are processed with an output format of HTML, which may result in processing errors such as MAPI_E_NOT_ENOUGH_MEMORY. This issue was introduced in the 6.2 release. Choose the MSG or MHTML as the output format. This issue is resolved in a soon-tobe-released hot fix. Early Data Analyzer Analysis/Processing: 7zip processing is much slower than the current archive processing due to limitations of the toolkit used for extraction. This issue will be addressed in a future release. Export: Resolved in version The native export process fails when an with a

20 20 Release Notes long subject (approximately 197+ characters) is encountered. This issue is resolved in a soon-to-be-released hot fix. Resolved in version The native export process fails when attempting to decrypt a password-protected if the file does not have a file extension. This issue is resolved in a soon-to-be-released hot fix. The export will attempt to run out-of-date searches prior to exporting to ensure the correct documents are queued (expected behavior). However, if the export is canceled, Early Data Analyzer will complete the search execution instead of cancelling immediately. Similarly, if a search error occurs, Early Data Analyzer will continue to execute all applicable searches prior to failing the export. These issues will be addressed in a future software release. Filters: Custom hash values cannot be imported from a folder if the path exceeds Microsoft Windows file path limitations. If possible, shorten the path to the folder prior to importing the hashes. Import: Decompression of JPEG images in ZIPX archives is not supported. Warnings are logged for the affected files during the import process. Users can then perform the extraction manually (or with another tool) outside of LAW PreDiscovery. Support for this format will be attempted in a future release. Exporting to a long path (exceeding Microsoft Windows file path limitations) will cause the export to fail. The workaround is to specify an export Output Directory that does not exceed Windows file path limitations. An exception may occur when clicking the Edit link to customize the folder selection on the Import tab if the folder path exceeds Microsoft Windows file path limitations. While the files within the folders marked for inclusion should still import successfully, please perform quality control to ensure accuracy or place in a shorter path if possible prior to import.

21 Current Issues 21 Reporting: The Document Timeline report may fail with an unhandled exception in larger cases (e.g. 10 million documents). Restrict the date range to include fewer documents to avoid this issue. This issue will be addressed in a future software release. Search: If the check boxes for completed, up-to-date searches are selected on the Search tab, and the Run Searches button is clicked, the software will process those searches again instead of skipping them, resulting in a potentially lengthier process time. In order to avoid this scenario, clear the check boxes for the up-to-date searches prior to clicking the Run Searches button. This issue will be resolved in a future software release. ED Loader: Resolved in version A gradual memory leak occurs when embedded images are processed with an output format of HTML, which may result in processing errors such as MAPI_E_NOT_ENOUGH_MEMORY. This issue was introduced in the 6.2 release. Choose the MSG or MHTML as the output format. Support for this format will be attempted in a future release. Contents of *.ZIPX files are not displayed in the ED Loader summary and Summarized Files by Native Extension report. Converting to TIFF images would allow the endorsement of Unicode fonts (and others not supported for PDF files see Answer Center for more information). Export: Resolved in version An invalid procedure call error is logged when attempting to export Outlook with the BlueTrace export format selected. This issue is resolved in a soon-to-be-released hot fix. Resolved in version The file extensions are included in the Image Page field within the iconect XML load file. Full Text Search Reports: Sizes will not appear in the Full Text Reports in a case that is not enabled for electronic discovery due to the absence of the Filesize field. Use cases enabled for electronic discovery when utilizing the Full Text Search Reports feature. PDF Support: The PDF conversion process may fail on certain Microsoft Office documents on supported 64-bit operating systems (Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2) with 32-bit Office Currently, the workaround is to run the conversion using an alternate system configuration (32- or 64-bit operating system with Office 2007 or 32-bit operating system with Office 2010). Markup (e.g., comments, arrows, lines) existing in (raw image) imported PDFs will not be viewable in the LAW PreDiscovery image viewer and will not appear in the output when printed.

23 Current Issues 23 As an alternative, the PDFs can be imported using ED Loader and, if needed, converted to TIFF or PDF. Scanning: The File Type scanner output value may become stuck (cannot be changed from dropdown list) in certain scenarios when using the scan toolbar. Close and re-open the scan toolbar to resolve the issue. LAW will close unexpectedly when the Edit > Insert > Scanned Document function is selected if a scanner is not configured in LAW. Ensure a scanner is properly configured in LAW prior to accessing this scan function. Search: Resolved in version The Tag Text Hits function within the Full Text Search Reports screen is not executing based on the scope of the selected tag ( Restrict search results to specified tag ).
