1 LESSON PLAN FOR INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) PRATOMSUKSA 2 CHAPTER SUBCHAPTER WEEK LEARNING OBJECTIVES POSSIBLE TEACHING ACTIVITIES POSSIBLE LEARNER ACTIVITIES LEARNING OUTCOMES KEY VOCABULARY 1 Data and Information Importance of Data and Information 1, 2, 3 To know that data and information are two important things needed to solve problems and make decisions Give examples of daily activities such as carrying an umbrella after listening to the weather forecast. Brief learners on which is the data and which is the information in the said situation. Guide them to conclude the data and information required to solve the problem encountered. Learners can form groups and role-play situations that show importance of data and information to solve the problem encountered. Eg, when a schoolgirl misses her school bus, what will she do next? What kind of information does she need, and how a particular information can be helpful to solve her problem at that time? understand that data and information are needed to solve problems and make decisions. - Data - Information - Problem-solving Learners may say out which are the data obtained, and the information needed to solve the above problem effectively. 2 Collecting Data and Information 4, 5, 6 To know how to collect valid data and information To verify the data and information received Introduce some of the methods that can be used to collect data and information, eg. conducting surveys and interviews, and browsing the Internet Prepare a simple questionnaire (survey forms) on a chosen topic and guide learners how to use it. Guide learners on how to verify the data and information received by cross-checking. E.g. give a piece of false information such as spiders are insects. Then guide learners to verify that information by looking up in different encyclopedias. Learners can try giving out questionnaires prepared by their teacher to the class. They can then sort out the data obtained into tables, and try to get some information which they can use to make decisions or conclusions. Browse to get an idea of the latest and more sophisticated input devices, and present a slide show to learners while explaining on what the functions of the devices are. Introduce CDs and DVDs, external hard disk and USB flash drives to the class. Explain why these are used as input devices as well as output devices. Ask learners to observe as these devices are applied. Learners may form groups to talk about the output devices shown to them by their teacher. They can take turns to demonstrate to the class of how to use them. 7 Using Tools to Draw 31, 32, 33, 34 To know the basic functions of the tools available in the MS Paint program Introduce all the basic drawing tools available to learners. Explain the function of each tool to them. Ask them to draw their favorite fruit using the basic tools. Learners may open their own document and start drawing as per their teacher s instruction. Learners should use the proper tools and methods to create the drawing: 1) Pencil or thin brush stroke for drawing the outline of the fruit. 2) Outlines should not be broken so as to contain the color to be filled in. Otherwise color will spill out of the drawing. able to use all the basic drawing tools in MS Paint. - Tools - Shapes - Colors - Brushes - Pencil - Eraser - Fill with colors - Line - Size - Undo - Stroke - Curve 3) Appropriate colors should be selected by using the Edit colors button. 4) Shapes can be used to create circles, ovals, squares, etc. 5) Eraser function or the Undo button should be used to undo incorrect attempts. 8 Using Tools to Type 35, 36, 37, 38 To know how to type words using Microsoft Paint Guide learners how to click the text button in the Tools group. Then, teach them how to drag the drawing area to create a text box. Learners should try to put their intended text alongside their drawing, eg. name of the fruit drawn, and why do they like it, etc. able to use all the basic typing tools in MS Paint. - Text - Font - Colors - Bold - Italic Suggest a short sentence to be typed in the text box created. Brief them on the font type and size, colors, and bold, italic and underline functions. They shall present their creation to the class. - Underline - Tools Learners can type a few lines about the fruit that they have drawn. Guide them in exploring the various font types, sizes and colors as much as possible. Encourage them to add more pictures by creating them with the various shapes and colors found. 9 Launching Sound Recorder 39, 40 To know how to launch the program Guide learners on how to launch Sound Recorder via clicking the shortcut icon on the desktop or by selecting All Programs > Accessories > Sound Recorder. Learners should do a proper launching based on the teacher s instructions, both ways. able to launch Sound Recorder. - Sound Recorder 5 Using Sound Recorder Recording 41, 42, 43, 44 To know how to record a sound and save it in the computer Ask learners to form three groups. Each group may present one type of recording to the class, eg. sounds of animals, sounds of vehicles, and sounds of people talking or singing. recording. Save the recording. Upon launching the program, learners may form three groups whereby each group will be required to record and present a respective type of sound as suggested by the teacher.
