Software Announcement January 31, 2006 Server, previously known as iphrase Overview IBM WebSphere Content enables organizations to rapidly deploy business-driven solutions that increase sales, reduce support costs, and help people make better decisions by getting the right information to the right people at the right time. The Content Discovery Server suite is based on the award-winning products acquired from iphrase Technologies in November of 2005. Server helps people move beyond ordinary searching. Its unique ability to understand the user s intent and the application context of user requests enables it to deliver the specific information people need to make purchases, answer questions, and solve problems. By understanding what people mean as opposed to what they say, WebSphere Content Discovery Server can respond to end-user requests with more relevant information. The system is able to effectively process a wide variety of requests including keywords, phrases, questions, and even long-form comments like online help requests and support e-mails. It automatically corrects for poor spelling and understands concepts like synonyms and broader or narrower relationships. Additionally the system can incorporate application context like the user s location on a Web site or product preferences to derive the implicit meaning of a request. Content uses adaptive presentation to guide the content discovery process by presenting answers, navigational refinement options, and proactive guidance in a format that helps people take action. This approach breaks through the standard list of links search result paradigm that forces users to mine information by paging through result lists. For example, these capabilities can be used to determine when and how to display glossary definitions or FAQs in self-service environments, when and how to display cross-sell or up-sell promotions in retail environments, or when and how to display escalation paths in online support environments. The tools to manage this entire process were developed from the ground up to be used by business managers. This empowers business managers to control the online experience for their customers, without incurring the cost of engaging the IT function. This cost, in both time and money, is one of the primary limitations that restrict business managers from improving the online experience for their end users. Detailed business intelligence about how end users are interacting with the system provides business managers with the information they need to tune the system for optimum performance, thus allowing your business managers to realize the full potential of your investment in this technology. In addition to providing the robust end-user experience and level of line-of-business control that allows organizations to increase revenue, reduce support costs, and make better business decisions, this offering seamlessly integrates with the full IBM Content Discovery suite. This helps organizations leverage IBM s content integration and text analytics capabilities to extend their existing information investments by providing native access to dozens of content repositories, and an open framework for text analytics that uncovers the inherent meaning of unstructured content. Key prerequisites Refer to the Technical information section for details. At a glance Server provides a broad suite of content discovery solutions that help organizations get the right information to the right people at the right time. Content Discovery Server solutions are built on a foundation of content integration, enterprise searching, text analytics, and contextual delivery. If there are Program Components included in the offering whose function is not to be included in the charge metric, these must be listed in the Program-unique Terms of the License Information. 2. IBM defines a physical processor in a computer as a functional unit that interprets and executes instructions. A physical processor consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic and logic units. 3. Multi-core technology allows two or more processors (commonly called cores ) to be active on a single silicon chip. Unless otherwise announced, with multi-core technology, IBM considers each core to be a physical processor. For example, in a dual-core chip, there are two physical processors residing on the single silicon chip. 4. In the zseries Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) environment, each IFL engine is considered a single physical processor. -3-206-020

5. Threading, a technique which makes a single processor seem to perform as two or more, does NOT affect the count of physical processors. 6.
