2 Click on the tab. There will be a list of your member dispatch codes on the left. Click on the to the right of the dispatch code that you want to view to zoom to your service area. You can then use the pan and zoom tools (upper right hand side of map) to review your service areas. If you need to look up an address or a street click on the button (upper right hand side of the map). Enter the street or address and the nearest city and the state. Click the button. If you need to find latitude longitude coordinate click on the button (upper right hand side of the map). Enter the latitude and longitude and click the button. If you need to measure distances click on the button (upper right hand side of the map). Click you re beginning point on the map and double click on the end point and the length will display in the measure distance box. 2
3 Editing Database Note: We do not automatically set you up as an editor, unless you have requested us to do so. If you are not set up as an editor and wish to have this feature turned on, contact the GIS department at Please do not let anyone use your login information. If there is someone else in your company that would like to have access to the application, please have them request access and we will assign them their own personal login information. 1. Click the button to begin your edit session.. 3. If you are unsure what DcCode you need to edit contact the mapping department to find out what areas are covered by each of your DcCodes. 4. The editing tool bar will appear across the top of the map. Note: You will be able to submit edits in the form of points, lines or polygon. After we approve your updates and load them back up to the site you will see that the edits you submitted will show up as a buffer polygon rather than the point, lines or smaller polygon that you original submitted. We use buffers around your database as a precaution due to discrepancies in the map or excavator directions to a job site. Submitting updates using POINTS 1. Zoom to the area on the map you wish to update. 2. Click on the Draw Point button. 3. Single click the point on the map where you want the point added. Repeat to add multiple points. 4. If you wish to move a point that you added in the wrong place click the modify map object button and click on the point that you want to move (point will turn blue). 3
4 5. Click on the point and drag and drop it into the new location. 6. If you wish to remove a point, click the delete map object button. 7. Click on the point you want removed. 8. A box will appear asking if you are sure you want to delete this point. 9. Click. Submitting updates using LINES 1. Zoom to the area on the map you wish to update. 2. Click on the Draw Line button. 3. Single click the point on the map where you want to start drawing your line. Then single click along the map to give shape to your line. When you want to complete the line double click. Repeat to add multiple. (Tip: After you begin your line you can also draw by holding down the shift key as you move your mouse.) 4. If you wish to make adjustments to your line click the modify map object button. 5. Click on the line that you want to adjust (line will turn blue and points will appear along the line). 4
5 6. Hover over the point on the line you wish to move. 7. A set of arrows will appear over the point. 8. Single click that point and hold with your mouse while hovering over the selected point to pick up and move the point to the correct place. Repeat until your line is correct. 9. If you need to remove a line you added, click the delete map object button. 10. Click on the line you want removed. 11. A box will appear asking if you are sure you want to delete this line. 12. 6 Submitting Updates Using POLYGONS Adding a Polygon 1. Zoom to the area on the map you wish to update. 2. Click on the Draw Addition Polygon button. 3. Single click the point on the map where you want to start drawing your polygon, then as you move your mouse you can continue to single click to give shape to your polygon. When you have reached the ending point of your polygon double click to complete the polygon. Repeat to add multiple polygons. (Tip: Before or after you begin your polygon you can continuously draw by holding down the shift key and the right mouse button.) 4. If you wish to make adjustments to your polygon click the modify addition polygon button. 5. Click on the polygon that you want to adjust (points will appear along the outside edge of the polygon). 6. Hover over the point on the polygon you wish to move. 7. A set of arrows will appear over the point. 6
7 8. Single click that point and hold with your mouse while hovering over the selected point to pick up and move the point to the correct place. Repeat until your polygon is correct. 9. If you drew your polygon too large click on the subtract addition polygon button. Draw a polygon around the area you want removed. 10. The area inside the subtraction polygon you drew will be removed. 7
8 Clipping your existing service area buffer Note: Use the following steps to advise the GIS department of an area you would like removed from your current database. 1. Zoom to the area of your service area polygon that you want to clip. 2. Click on the draw subtraction polygon button. 3. Single click the point on the map where you want to start clipping the service area polygon, then as you move your mouse you can continue to single click to give shape to your polygon. When you have reached the ending point of where you want to clip the polygon double click. (Tip: Before or after you begin your subtraction polygon you can continuously draw by holding down the shift key and the right mouse button.) 4. If you wish to make adjustments to your subtraction polygon click the modify map objects button. 5. Click on the subtraction polygon that you want to adjust (polygon will turn blue and points will appear along the outside edge of the polygon). 6. Hover over the point on the polygon you wish to move. 7. A set of arrows will appear over the point. 8. Single click that point and hold with your mouse while hovering over the selected point to pick up and move the point to the correct place. Repeat until subtraction polygon is correct. 9. If you drew your subtraction polygon too large and want to remove a large area from it click the clip subtraction polygon button. 10. Single click the point on the map where you want to start clipping the subtraction polygon, then as you move your mouse you can continue to single click to give shape to your polygon. When you have reached the ending point of where you want to clip the subtraction polygon double 8
9 click. (Tip: Before or after you begin your polygon you can continuously draw by holding down the shift key and the right mouse button.) 11. If you wish to completely remove a subtraction polygon you added, click the delete map object button. 12. A box will appear asking if you are sure you want to delete this polygon. 13. Click. Saving your Change Requests 1. Click the button (left hand side of screen). 2. It should now say underneath the dispatch code you made the edits to. (Note: If you need to come back and make more edits before submitting them to us be sure and save before logging off the site.) Resuming your edits 1. Click on the button under the Dispatch Code you were working on to reopen your editing session. 2. Make your changes and click the button (left hand side of screen). Submitting your Change Requests 1. your changes. 2. Click the button (left hand side of screen). 3. A Submit Change Request box will appear. 4. Enter your remarks and click the button. 5. Click the button. 6. It should now say underneath the dispatch code you made the edits to. 9
10 7. The GIS department will review your change requests. 8. You will receive an from the GIS department telling you that your changes have been made to your database and when your updates will be posted back to the site.
