4 How to zoom in and back (zoom previous) 1. Zoom in Tool 2. Left click, hold down and drag to make a zoom window box 3. Quinte West Maps icon indicates processing from the GIS Zoom to previous will take you back to the map above Resulting Map after using Zoom (more detail is displayed the more you zoom in)

5 How to use the pan button and pan button on the map edges Click on the pan button and then click again and hold the button down on the map. Move the mouse to drag the map in the direction you want it. Releasing the mouse button will then update the map. The scale of the map will remain the same in this process. Clicking on the edges of the map will also pan (move) the map in the direction the arrows are pointing

6 How to work with map layers Map Layers Frame If you do not see the map layers frame (in the frame to the right of the map), click on the layers tab to see them. If the i symbol is grayed out, this indicates that a particular layer is set to be turned off (not visible) by the system. The more you zoom in, the more layers become available to the user. You can open and close folders in the layers frame in order to save space. This will not influence the map display. Click on the star to zoom to the scale that makes layer visible. Click on the symbology icon in order to change the colour and look of a layer. You can make your map your own style with this feature. In the map layers frame, a check mark means the map frame is set to visible.

7 Where is my legend (colours/symbols) on my map? 1. Click on the Legend Tab Button in order to view the Map Legend Frame 2. The Map Legend Frame displays the Layer Symbols used to create the map. Tip: If you see a colour or a symbol on a map that you do not recognize, click on the Legend Tab Button and see the Map Legend Frame to the right of the map.

8 How to identify a property or feature 1. Click on the identify button to find out attributes of a feature. 2. Click on the layer that you want to retrieve information about. 3. For a property, click on the approximate location of the property you are looking for and the attribute information will display in the frame to the right of the map. The property will also be highlighted on the map. Tip: Zoom into a scale (ie.1:2,500) where you can select one property at a time. Working in a larger scale will cause the identify button to select more then 1 property at a time.

9 How to measure distances 1. Click on the measure distance tool. 2. Click route on map for distance, which highlights in red. 3. The coordinates, segment lengths, and total distances are given in the frame to the right of the map.

10 How to search on map layers 1. Click on Search/Query Button 2. Search/Query Box Opens 3. Select layer to Search 4. Select Parameter to Search on 5. Select Type of Parameter 6. Select Name you are looking for *You could for example search on the roads layer, and select the street name, and then select contains. Tips not case sensitive, and drop the road type (e.g. St, Dr, Ave, etc) 7. Hit Search to find location on the map 1. Located Residential development with high resolution aerial photography and detailed lot information 2. Detailed information about the development including contact information, detailed layout plans, and website. Clicking on the diagram will bring you to the developments website.

11 How to add point locations with labels 1. Open Advanced Toolbox 2. Select add a point with some text 3. Add point and text frame/interface 4. Feature added to map according to specs in interface above

12 How to create a PDF map/print your map 1. Select Printable Version 2. Specify page size 3. Specify map scale 4. Add title to map 5. Create a PDF map frame/interface. Add text to help explain your map. It will take some time for the PDF to be created 6. Click OK to proceed 7. Click open map to open PDF file, or right click and then click Save As If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, follow this link to to obtain the free download

13 How to create a PDF map/print your map (con t) When you open your map a new window will pop-up. From here you can view, save, or print your map. Click here to print your map Click here to save your map Your map notes will be displayed here

14 How to search for a property 1. Click Find button to find a property 2. Select a ward 3. Type in the parameters 4. Hit Search Search parameters for properties are roll number, address, or street name. Use contains rather than = because you will be able to type in an address such as 1314 Wall instead of having to type in the full address. Tip leave off the street type ie. st, rd, blvd, etc. unless it is absolutely necessary to differentiate between 2 roads. The property searched on is highlighted Information about the property searched on is displayed here

15 How to locate a business 1. Click on the business locator tool 2. Search by filling out parameters and click Search Selected business is highlighted on center of map Business information of selected business is shown here

16 How to locate features and landmarks within an area (radius) One of the most powerful tools with the web-based GIS is the radius search. You can search for any of the layers so you can search for schools, parks, businesses, churches, cemeteries, and so on, within a specified radius. 1. Select the Identify Features by Radius button Select the features you want to identify Select radius size 4. Click OK 2. Click on the center of the lot to specify the center of the radius 3. Fill in the information in the identify by radius frame

In this case you search on schools within 1km radius. 1 result is found 1. Click here to open schools website found in radius search 2. The School s website pops-up in a separate browser window. This is the schools website from the results found in your radius search. You can resize this browser and close when you are finished.

18 How to remove (erase) items from your map 1. Click the erase button to selectively remove features off the map you have created such as Buffers Highlighted map features (properties) Text you have created Points, lines, and areas you have drawn 3. Click OK 2. Select which features you would like to remove from your map

19 How to automatically label features 1. Click on the red toolbox to open advanced features 2. Use the label feature button to automatically text label a feature 3. Select the feature to automatically label (in this case park) 4. Specify the layer to label, the field to use for label, and the font type. Click OK to proceed Resulting label is placed on the map

20 How to add text to a map 1. Click advanced toolbox 2. Click add map text 3. Click location of text you want to add to map 4. Specify text, font, and colour to add to map Text is added to the map according to specifications

21 How to add polygons (shapes) to a map 1. Open the advanced toolbox 2. Click on the polygon creator button 4. Click OK to create polygon based on your sketch. If you are unhappy with the sketch, hit clear and repeat the process 3. Use polygon creator to sketch a polygon in red outline 5. Specify how you would like to the polygon to look and select OK. 6. The polygon is created based on the specifications provided

22 How to add a line to a map 1. Click on advanced toolbox 2. Click on draw line button 3. Draw line in sketch mode (line appears in red) 4. Click OK to accept sketch shown as a red line Completed line

23 How to save a session If you have made a customized map with labels, your own colour schemes, your own layering, your own favorite locations, and so on, you can save this session so you can return and keep working in your own environment. 1. Click on the advanced toolbox 2. Use the save sessions button to save you customized map 3. Save the session in a location where you will find it Note In some web browsers the save location will be preset and Save As box will not pop up

24 How to retrieve a previously saved session 1. Open the advanced toolbox 2. Click on the open session button (folder) 4. Select the filename you wish to retrieve and click Open 3. Click on the browse button

Click add current extent link to save the current view of the map. Select a name for your bookmark that represents the view Click the red X to remove a previously saved bookmark

26 How to add a grid to the map 1. Open the advanced toolbox 2. Click create a grid on the map 3. Specify the grid size and click OK The grid is placed on your map as specified

27 How to send my map to someone else via 1. Open the advanced toolbox 2. Select the button (envelope) 3. Enter the details, attachment format, and any additional comments here. Click Send to send the

28 How to measure area 1. Open the advanced toolbox 2. Select the measure area button 3. Select the points of your polygon by clicking on the map 4. Real time calculations showing coordinate points clicked and total area are displayed here 5. Hit the Clear Points button to clear this frame and the map

29 How to access the help menu The Help menu contains useful information about the Quinte West Maps website such as icon descriptions, FAQ s, the Step by Step manual, new features of the website, and the top 10 features of the site. 1. Select the Help tab A new browser window will pop up. 3. Select FAQ tab to view Frequently Asked Questions 4. Select Step by Step tab to view step by step manual 5. Select What s New tab to view new features added to the website 6. Select Top 10 Things to Know tab to view the top 10 things to know about the website 2. Click on an icon to view its description

30 How to use map tips The map tips function for the web based GIS system can be used to obtain information about properties such as roll numbers, and addresses. 1. Click on the map tips icon 2. Move your cursor over the property of interest 3. After a moment a box will pop up with detailed information about the property
