21 2 MATERIAL FABRIC INTRODUCTION There are two parts to each fabric the physical property and 2D texture image. Physical properties relate to the physics of the fabric how it bends and stretches across a surface. The 2D texture is the digital representation of the surface of the fabric, such as the color, print, or weave. Both are required to express Fabrics in CLO. PHYSICAL PROPERTIES - Physical Properties control the physics of the fabric and how it will behave in the 3D Window when simulated (i.e. a stiff leather compared to a soft silk) - CLO also comes with preset physical properties that can be assigned as desired - To manually assign properties: select fabric in the Object Browser > Property Editor > Physical Properties > Preset (Select) There are a variety of Fabrics available in the Library. Simply drag & drop them onto patterns in either the 2D or 3D Windows to apply them. To use multiple Fabrics, use the Add button in the Fabric tab under the Object Browser. PAGE 21

22 ADDING, ASSIGNING, & EDITING FABRIC Fabric files in CLO are called ZFAB. A ZFAB File will have any physical properties, textures, prints, opacity or shininess saved into the file. Fabrics can be edited and saved in the Property Editor. Add a new fabric to the workspace: navigate to the Object Browser > select the Fabric tab > click +Add Assign to Selected Patterns button - applies the fabric to any pattern pieces selected in the 2D or 3D Windows: select patterns > navigate to the Fabric tab in the Object Browser > click the Assign button Open an existing Fabric File (.zfab) or Save Current Fabric properties as a Fabric (.zfab) Double click to change the Name Expand Type then double click to add Material Type and Content Front, Back and Side tabs allow you to customize each side or create double faced fabrics Open/ Delete Fabric Textures & Normal Maps Click on the thumbnail to open the Color Palette Change fabric type and control Roughness & Reflection Intensity, create/upload custom Specular Maps Opacity slider will add transparency to fabric Physical Property only needs to be assigned if working with the default fabric Change the thickness of the fabric manually PAGE 22 Copyright 2018 CLO Virtual Fashion Inc. 47 4 GARMENT RESOLUTION PARTICLE DISTANCE Fabric in CLO is made up of a mesh. The density of the mesh controls the speed of simulation and the quality of the garment. Particle Distance is the length of the distance between each vertice of the mesh in millimeters. The default Particle Distance is 20, which is optimized for speed. The ideal Particle Distance for high quality rendering and presentations is 5. - Manually change the Particle Distance of pattern pieces in the Property Editor under Simulation Properties - This can be changed by selecting one or multiple pieces in the 2D or 3D Windows Some very small pattern pieces may need to be assigned a lower particle distance throughout working to avoid collisions. PAGE 47

48 PARTICLE DISTANCE CONTINUED Automatically toggle between Particle Distance, Offsets, and Simulation Presets quickly to ensure the 3D sample is accurate down to the wrinkle. HIGH-RES GARMENT - Decreases the Particle Distance and Collision Thickness of the garment, decreases the Skin Offset of the avatar, changes simulation to Complete Non-Linear LOW-RES GARMENT - Increases the Particle Distance and Collision Thickness of the garment, increases the Skin Offset of the avatar, changes simulation to Normal CUSTOM - Set your own presets for Garment Resolution PAGE 48 Copyright 2018 CLO Virtual Fashion Inc.
