4 1) Finalize parametric geometry in Catia 2) Export from Catia as.sat - Depending on the quantity of geometric data, it can be helpful to export each set of geometry separately, i.e. in this example the balcony slabs, rail path, facade panels and gutters are each exported as a separate file

5 1) Import each.igs file into a single Rhino file 2) Rhino often distrots the imported geometry NURBS, so use the UNTRIM command to see if the geometry is accurate

6 Assuming that the geometry is inaccurate, VERTICAL PANELS (GLASS PANES): 1) use the DUPBORDERS command and then PLANARSRF to recreate the geometry 2) EXPORT each layer separately as an.sat file

7 NON-PLANAR EXTRUSIONS (GUTTERS): 1) trace profiles 2) create PLANARSRF for each profile 3) export planar surfaces as a single.sat file

8 FLOORS (BALCONY SLABS): 1) LOFT the profile of the various floor slabs (DUPBORDERS) to create a volume that contains the perimeters of the various floors 2) EXPORT the volume as an.sat file

9 RAIL PATHS: 1) JOIN line segments to form a polyline defining the rail path on each floor 2) EXPORT each polyline (for each floor level) as a.dwg 2004 Line Scheme

10 VERTICAL PANELS (GLASS PANES): 1) Generate curtain wall 2) Set Grid Patterns to NONE

11 SOLID EXTRUSIONS (GUTTER): 1) Extrude profiles

12 FLOORS (BALCONY SLABS): 1) insert MASS as an IN-PLACE MASS 2) LINK CAD and browse to.sat file of slab volume 3) FINISH MASS 4) Select volume and MASS FLOORS from it by selecting the appropriate elevation levels 5) Create FLOORS BY FACE for each floor

13 RAIL PATHS: 1) LINK CAD and import each.dwg file for each floor 2) Create RAIL by PICKING each polyline per floor (using TAB to select adjacent line segments)

17 1. Export RVT model via FBX. 2. Link the FBX file in 3dsMax using the file link manager. 3DShome > References > File Link Manager

18 3. Navigate to Presets and select how you would like Max to combine Revit objects. Combing by Material makes for the most efficient navigation between programs. Within Presets, select these option: Use Scene Mater Definitions Use Scene Material Assignments on Reload Using Mental Ray Rendering Engine: Since revit uses Mental Ray, you can leave the Object options checked; however, On reload Revit s sun setting will be used, so if you plan on altering these setting within Max, it is better to leave them unchecked. Using VRay or other Third Party Rendering Engine: Uncheck all Object options within the Presets Save

19 4. Select the FBX file and the preset that you would like to use. Otherwise you will lose the material settings that you creat within Max associated with objects upon reload. 5. Click Attach this file.

20 6. If you update the Associated Revit file: - Export from Revit as FBX again using this process, maintaining the same file name. - Within the 3dsMax file manager, click reload.
